Is it safe to put frozen chicken breasts directly into the crockpot? Thanks!
I have always been afraid of this, I think I even read long ago that you are not supposed to put raw chicken in a Crockpot. But on these boards I have read over and over of people doing it
http://www.extension.umn.edu/foodsafety/components/columns/Jan28sd.htmMake sure meat or poultry is completely thawed before putting into a slow cooker. If frozen pieces are used, they will not reach 140° quick enough and could possibly result in a foodborne illness.
I have read/heard not to do it, but people on here do it all the time.
This explains why not:

I run my frozen chicken under warm water to defrost it most of the way before putting it in the crockpot. Only takes a couple of minutes. But everyone else on here seems to use if frozen, and I guess they are not getting sick. I just hate taking the risk!
I also thaw meat on the kitchen counter overnight like I'm 'not supposed to' I've always done it and my mom has always done it and we haven't ever gotten sick.
It's probably like eating uncooked cookie dough.... there's a possibility it could make you sick, I suppose, but I'm going to continue doing it!![]()
I do it. I know you are technically 'not supposed to' because of risk of ecoli or something, but I do it anyway. I also thaw meat on the kitchen counter overnight like I'm 'not supposed to' I've always done it and my mom has always done it and we haven't ever gotten sick. Yes. I know that it MIGHT happen, but I might get run over by a bus, too and I still cross the road.
