Is it safe to put frozen chicken breasts directly into the crockpot? Thanks!

Oh, yes!! With some seasoning and two cans of cream of chicken soup, some frozen chicken breast cooked on low all afternoon goes great over noodles or you can add some canned biscuits for the last hour and make some great "dumplings"!!!

I don't know...but I do it all the time...mostly because my mom did it all the time. Yikes! Can't believe I never thought to see if you actually should do that or not!

Frozen chicken breasts with a small jar of salsa dumped on top. Slow cooked all day. Served with yellow rice. mmmmm. now I am hungry. But I have roast in my crock pot today.

I do it all the time and we are all still alive :). Chicken doesn't dry out like it does when I've cooked thawed all day!

Yep, that's the only way I cook it: frozen straight into the crockpot.

You can pour some tomatilla sauce over it, let it cook until it can be shredded. Stir in some sour cream, and use it for chicken enchiladas (or chicken burritos is actually what we do).

I have always been afraid of this, I think I even read long ago that you are not supposed to put raw chicken in a Crockpot. But on these boards I have read over and over of people doing it, so I am going to give it a try..and it might just be with one of these recipes-I LOVE tomatilla enchiladas!! I am starving right now, but I will have to wait until tomorrow!

I have read/heard not to do it, but people on here do it all the time.

This explains why not:
Make sure meat or poultry is completely thawed before putting into a slow cooker. If frozen pieces are used, they will not reach 140° quick enough and could possibly result in a foodborne illness.

I run my frozen chicken under warm water to defrost it most of the way before putting it in the crockpot. Only takes a couple of minutes. But everyone else on here seems to use if frozen, and I guess they are not getting sick. I just hate taking the risk!

Thanks for the responses guys! I love all your recipe ideas, can't wait to try them. This morning I put the chicken breasts in with just a bottle of bbq sauce for sandwiches tonight. I've never put them in frozen before, but I think it'll be fine. Tomorrow, I'm making queso in the crockpot for a cub scout party. Yummy!

Uh-oh, I just followed the link and I'm a little worried. I'll make sure to use a meat thermometer on the chicken.

I posted a recipe on the crockpot thread yesterday that uses frozen bonless chicken breasts. I was so skeptical at first but they cook fine! I just make sure they are on the bottom of the crockpot since this is the hottest point.

I do it. I know you are technically 'not supposed to' because of risk of ecoli or something, but I do it anyway. I also thaw meat on the kitchen counter overnight like I'm 'not supposed to' I've always done it and my mom has always done it and we haven't ever gotten sick. Yes. I know that it MIGHT happen, but I might get run over by a bus, too and I still cross the road.

My mom did that growing up. She still does it. Looking back we had a lot of stomach ailments growing up! And mom still does! Connection? Who knows.

I always put frozen chicken and roasts, ribs etc in my crockpot..eevn whole fryer chickens...we've never had a problem. I do it 1-2 times per week!

I always put frozen meat in the crockpot have for years atleast once a week and we have never gotten sick (knock in wood) so who knows.......:confused3

It's probably like eating uncooked cookie dough.... there's a possibility it could make you sick, I suppose, but I'm going to continue doing it!:thumbsup2

yeah, i agree with this! we do it both ways, frozen and thawed. i buy those boxes of frozen individually packaged chicken at BJ's and sometimes i just forget to thaw them in the fridge the night before. if the chicken is cooked well then you have way less of a risk of getting sick. we also use a thermometer and we generally leave the setting on high for a few hours and then turn it to low when the temp gets around what it should be for cooked chicken.

My SIL does this-she lets it thaw on the counter while she is at work all day. I used to watch her kids and sometimes the house would 80 degrees and there was meat sitting on the counter:sick: I am such a food phobic that I won't even let my kids eat dinner at her house anymore, lol.
