From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 5

It looks like we may go to the Magic Kingdom on 1/5 so we can see the Electric Parade now that it's on the schedule, we've been missing it from DL/DCA.

Might just have to go to that. We haven't seen it yet.

Merry Monday everyone! Chilly here (like 45) but I will say that there is no snow on the ground. We are heading out today to do something, just have not figured out exactly what that something is.

Have a grand day! 11 more days!!

So, our plans to be picked up at the port by friends have fallen through. Since we are coming in on a Friday, they were not able to get off work. We will need to rent a car until they can pick us up in the afternoon. Can anyone tell me the closest rental car agency to the port? Obviously we will need for them to pick us up or at least have a shuttle from the port to their location. Any suggestions??

Also, the port is Port Of Los Angeles in San Pedro, not one the on Long Beach, is that correct?

We are using Hertz out of Lomita, CA. They dont really have a shuttle per se, but they said they will send a driver in a regular vehicle to come pick you up, no charge- if this is too long of a wait, we'll get a taxi, as the rental place is only 6 miles away.

Where are you going? Maybe there's another alternative to renting a car?

Thanks! I'll look into Hertz!

Our friends place is about 45 minutes from the Port. They get off work at 2:30 so they can come get us then. We decided against a taxi because the cost would be about the same as a rental car or more since they live so far away. And with the rental car we have more options.

I am completely open to any other suggestions! We basically have about 6 hours to kill before they can come get us, but we will have luggage to haul around so we'll have to take that into consideration.

You can sign up for more than 1???? I did not know that. Is there a trick to it. Do you need three rooms?
Not that I'm aware of. We only had one room on the TATL and they didn't have a problem with it. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything now. :sad2:
We are debating doing this. When you sign up for a private session is it just a sketch he draws for you? In black and white or color? Could you post a pick of the one you had done last time? Pretty please. :goodvibes
I can try at some point this week. It's B&W but *very* nice.

Also sounds like everyone is going to DL after the cruise. DW and I are just staying at the Embassy Suites in Santa Ana and flying out of John Wayne the next morning. I assume there are others who are just leaving as well? That said, we *are* going to Napa Rose for dinner the evening we get off of the ship.

SUN is out here in California :cool1::cool1::cool1: I'll need to use my sunglasses today. Venturing out to do errands; suitcases are down and begging to be packed. Looked up the weather in Orlando this Friday and it shows a warming trend into the 70's:yay::yay:

See everyone very, very soon.

OK, at the last minute we've decided not to rent a car and I've been trying to find the link someone was using to order from ABC and having it delivered to the resort before the cruise. Anyone still have it?

Is this it? www.shop.abcfws.com

Also don't forget to bring enough meds with you if you take daily meds. Oh so can't wait. The weather looks pretty good for WDW except Monday which has a 60% chance of rain. I think we might try Bunko one day with ya'll.

Really quickly I started looking at 10 day forecasts and they look good!( as good as 10 days out can) it will be a blessing to get away from this frigid wasteland called Minnesota! It's getting really exciting! It's been so much fun doing this with you all I really want to take a moment and thank everyone here for really making the last 200+ days great. I'm not exagerating when I say (and I know I'm not alone) that there are plenty of days that discussion here and planning for this cruise is what's gotten me through the day. So a very heartfelt thank you and I look forward to meeting all of you!

Alan,
Don't let me forget I owe you a beer!

Everyone looking into the forecasts for Florida... don't believe anything until a couple of days out. I do expect us to warm up (it's freaking 45 degrees right now, it was 41 when I left the house at 6am). But the weather people can't make up their minds what is going on down here!
Those of you in the Northeast, stay safe (and I'm so glad I'm not under the 2-3 feet of snow my hometown is under, or where I went to college!!!)

Can weather people make up their minds anywhere? :confused3

That would be a big fat no, but this winter has been particularly bad for Florida. As of last night they were saying we would be in the 20s by 6am. At 6am they were still saying that. We were in the 40s. Now they swear we would warm up today. It was colder at noon than it was at 6am. They swear again that we'll have a hard freeze tonight....

I checked all the weather at the ports today as DH was concerned. I know it's a crap shoot, but they are all in the high 70s-80s some with scattered showers. Anything is better than the weather we've all been having.

I have been looking everywhere for the website. It's like they disappeared. We are staying at MCO Hyatt and catching a cab to the local ABC (only 4 miles from airport) but would have preferred to have it delivered to the Hyatt. Let me know if you find the website.

On another note, should we bring our own towels to the sail/snorkel and costa rica excursions?

Not from home! Just from the ship. Sometimes they're on a rack outside the gangway.

Re Car rental in LA.
If you're going to a private house, you're right - I don't see any alternative to renting a car.

Re Ducky sessions.
I'd like to see everyone get at least one session before any party reserved more than one. I imagine they're highly sought after.

NOW I'm in the obsessive stage of wondering what I've forgotten . . . .

What is the Ducky Sessions and how much do they cost?

I am still in shock as I type this, I cant believe it is real- but I have a reservation for Club 33 in Disneyland at the end of our trip!!! I have spent the past 2 weeks emailing hundreds of people- friends, coworkers, associates, school alumni, everything, and I got nowhere trying to find someone who could get me a reservation. I came close a few times, with people who worked for corporate member companies, but they required the employee to be there too. But I didnt give up, I kept reaching out, and just when I thought all was lost, the day before Christmas Eve I got a reply from an alumni from my college who said he goes to the Club so often, he had a friend from grade school whose dad's small firm had a membership, and he said he'd be happy to help! I just got the reservation confirmed this afternoon, I just cant believe it. I am so excited for this entire trip, it really feels like my Ultimate Disney Vacation now, with WDW at the beginning, an amazing 2-week cruise to all new ports for me, and DL at the end, including Club 33. I dont see how I can ever top this vacation. This was the best Christmas surprise ever, so priceless that I was this close to giving up, and when I least expected it, found someone who was willing to help me!

DH has been checking the weather non-stop.
Bills are on auto-pay (and DH took care of the mortgage payment)!
I have to set up the mail hold.

Neighbor will be taking out trash cans out for us ... we got timers for the lights.

We checked in for our night at WDW and I am heading to the mall tonight for some last-minute shopping. :lovestruc

See, I want that kind of job where you can be wrong 95% of the time and still keep your job. OTOH i'm glad they were wrong about baltimore/dc - we barely got a dusting of the 17 inches in ocean city just 2 1/2 hours east of us!
