From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 4

I got all my docs for the cruise yesterday. Now just waiting on the docs for our stay before and after.

Sending best wishes for you kitty. We have a big dog who is getting near the end. We have to help him stand up if he is on the tile or hardwood and sometimes on the carpet. Its so funny when he tries to come in from the backyard. Two front feet on the steps then back down, turn a circle then make it up the three stairs. He's a great dog and still happy but we know his days are coming to an end.

I have been MIA for a few days I think so I am sure that I will miss things.

Val - hugs to your kitty. It is so hard to do the right thing but I agree with you, and we owe it to them as well for all those years of unconditional love and joy they gave to us. Makes me get all teary just thinking about it.

See, I said I would miss something. So, safe travels to those of you on the road, good health to those that need it (someone does have bronchitis - REST and take care of yourself, you need to be healthy, not only for the holidays but the cruise as well) and I hope everyone has a grand weekend.

Glad to ear some more of you are getting documents. Hope the rest come very soon.

Thanks to all of you for your warm wishes and words of advice too. Tweeky (I know- stupid name – it came with him from the pound) was so good while they did the sonogram. They didn’t see any masses but his intestines indicate either beginning lymphoma or inflamed bowel. The additional cultures they are running should tell us more. I told her I had thought hard about it and we had discussed it and we would not do chemo - maybe radiation but not chemo. She said they don't do radiation for this and while she would have supported us with chemo she agrees ours is the most humane choice for a cat of his age and stage of the disease. We are going to try prednisone and antibiotics for a month and see how he does.

She says we most definitely should plan to go on our trip. She doesn't think he is in any immediate danger. The trick will be to find someone who can give him his meds twice a day. My normal house sitter couldn't do it so I have to look for someone who can give the pills and liquid to him. I won't put him in a kennel. I think him going without the meds would be better than the stress of putting him a kennel. I use to do that with my other pets, and even though I would go and check them out, get references and all, they always had a terrible time.

So I feel a little better, another poor lady in the waiting room had the same problem with her cat. I heard the vet say in was a huge mass and they were going to have to put the pet to sleep. Poor lady.

Sometimes I feel guilty when I see those pictures of starving and neglected children on TV, dying because they don't have clean water. My cat has prednisone and antibiotics. It is a funny world.

Well since everyone is going Document happy, I got my DME stuff. I opened and realized I forgot to order an extra set of bag tags. So I need to jump on that. I also got my new Disney Files today. No cruise stuff.

Val, we have a big dog with osteosarcoma - bone cancer - whic, in dogs, is always fatal. Usually within 3 or 4 months. He was diagnosed about 16 months ago. We are treating with an eastern herbal malaria remedy.

Not sure what to tell you about your kitty, but I will say that chemo, according to all the professionals we spoke with, does not have the side effects that it does with humans.

Also, we gave Winston (big dog) prednisone for about a week. He was visibly affected by it; mostly nausea and drowsiness. We stopped as soon as we realized it was the steroid.

Saying prayers for Tweeky (which is a name I love, BTW) and sending goggy hugs...

And the document dance is happening in Michigan too! Funny, DVC called DCL and was told that they were sent out 11/22 - the postmark on the envelope was 12/01. But, I don't care, they are here and I must be going somewhere.

Have a grand Saturday. Watched my favorite Christmas movie last night (Polar Express), we also taped (not the right word but I can watch it again and forward through the commercials) it so I think I will watch it again. I should just buy the DVD. LOVE that move!

Thanks for the good thoughts. The vet said dogs seem to have more side effects from prednisone then cats but I have a list of things to watch for and am suppose to call Monday and talk with them. If he does ok, they'll order more of the stuff. If he doesn't we'll try changing to a liquid and different antibiotic. We'll keep trying stuff until I decide the quality of his life isn't there. I had a cat for 20 years that we did dialysis at home for a while. When they found a mass, I cried like a baby and held him while they put him to sleep. I knew he was in pain and I loved him to much to leave him like that.

Val, Im sorry, good luck.
I hope you spoil your baby lots and lots, I know you will.
Its great you have a good vet for your kitty.
The only thing you can do is what your vet advises you, I probably should have kept quiet, I just cant help it I am afraid.:confused3

Chemo strikes dread in all the nurses I know but..
depends what type of chemo, preds not so bad at all, The animals that have proper chemo(not just steriods) have to be kept in the hospital (health and saftety, cause urine and stuff is radioactive)and its me(the nurses NOT THE VETS) that nurse/ look after them and console them when the owners are not around.
Dont know about usa but also in uk we cant let them outside to pass toilets because of health and safety so they have to do it in the kennel,I just hate nursing them, it tears me apart.
It was pred my lympho cat got for a few weeks, she done ok on it.

:hug:Lynne, It's a tough job you have!

:grouphug:Val - wish I could support you more through this - it's so hard.:grouphug:

All I have to say is, "We're going on a cruise, we're going on a cruise!"

I deal with stress by eating, I can barely get my jeans zipped. But----it isn't going to stop me from shopping next Saturday bright and early. The Ghiradelli Chocolate factory (the real one where they make the stuff - you gain 5 pounds just breathing) is in San Leandro, about 30 min. from San Francisco. They have an outlet store where in addition to the left over stuff they sell their stuff by the bulk. Chocolate to cook with by the block, specialty stuff like their hot chocolate mix (yum) and hot chocolate with mint (yum yum). Ever flavor of bit size chocolates individually wrapped for stocking stuffers. Next Saturday is their annual sale and because I am such a VIP (sucker) they sent me a coupon for another 20% off - Guess what all our doctor's nurses, receptionists, the mail man, etc. is getting?

I give you permission to eat all the chocolate you need too.

Sounds like a store I might need to check out.:cloud9: I'm hoping my family doesn't forget to stop by the Sees shop before X-mas, the dark chocolate almonds & nougats are calling my name.

They have a store in Lathrop too. They are having their sale today and tomorrow. Is Lathrop closer to you then San Leandro? Val
