Do you remember roughly how much this costs? Is it per piece or what?
I found to what seems to be fairly current pricing. Unfortunately Disboards seems to filter out any use of the URL, so I can't post the direct link. But if you Google
"disney cruise line" laundry price
you'll find it.
It's obviously more expensive than doing it yourself - but then again, I find that for under $10/day/person I can just have it done and not worry about it. For a family with kids that does a lot of laundry, I can see it being prohibitive. But for two? It's on the same order as gratuities or maybe drinks - an affordable luxury.
A colleague of mine just got back from the Transatlantic cruise and she said doing laundry was MISERABLE! She said people would take out your clothes even if still wet to use the dryer and she said it took her one whole at sea day. It sounds like some of you have had a much better experience, so my question would be...was her experience the exception or the norm?
On the longer cruises everybody ends up doing laundry, and there just aren't that many machines. So you can expect long lines at times, and yes - if people don't take their stuff out of a washer or dryiner in a timely manner, I would expect their clothes would be removed and placed in a pile somewhere.
As I recall, sea days were definitely the worst. Late afternoons on port days (hurry and get it done before dinner) were also bad. They were definitely busy evenings and into late night. I don't recall mornings, but I think those were better.
My cabin was pretty close to one of the laundry rooms, so I had numerious opportunities to walk past and feel grateful that I could afford to have DCL do it.
And personally, I had no problem with them doing "unmentionables" - the cabin staff were far too discrete to take any notice, and what the crew laughed about down below doesn't concern me as long as I'm not there to see it
