FP+ Details Are Out!

All the KTTW card says (or used to say) is "DVC Member", when issued at a DVC resort, on a DVC points reservation, from the DVC reservations system...

I think at that point you might see the connection there... :)

I might be a DVC member staying at the Poly on cash...and the KTTW card won't say it.

Also, the for the past year at least, my cards have only said "DVC Room Only" and not said anything about being a member. And CMs are apparently not taking the KTTW cards for member discounts - you need the blue card still.

The main thing being that the DVC system has been pretty separate from the rest of the system.

On my trip last month, DVC was printed on my room key, but I still had to show my blue card. I would be thrilled if the discounts were automatic, honestly I can't remember who accepts what.

So you think we will get our discounts automatically without asking if it is linked to the band? That would be great.

Given that the requirement to keep the actual pass was removed from the T&C, I think they are heading that way.

So...Random thought here...Does anyone think they will cut back on EMH more once FP+ is fully up and running...Perhaps instead of operating the parks extra hours they could do something where they just give you extra FP+s for the resort guest perk?

Maybe someone can list the parts of this whole thing that are NOT insane.

As several others have mentioned, the MyMagic+ system apart from the FP+ subsystem seems to be a net positive. The keyless park/room entry, tap to pay, and potential enhanced experiences are all decent "pluses".

Even some pieces of the proposed FP+ system would work well in part with the existing system:
1) Paperless - reduced trash, reduced materials cost, and the PR of "going green" would be a sizable net positive. (Note: integrated with existing FP, the paperless would have to be an option, but it would still reduce the paper consumption)

2) FP Return tracking - Right now, they do not track used/returning FPs. This is useful data to help them spot trends and can be incorporated into the existing system to have more dynamic Next Pull and FP Return times. (e.g. say, reduce the amount of FPs returning during the higher SB periods, and increase them during the lower ones). Would also give behavioral data regarding what point in the window the general population is more likely to use the FP.

3) Management by Device - Would have to be fully optional when integrated with the existing system, but the ability to view and possibly alter (move to later if available) existing FPs would be a useful trick with today's FP system. Instead of waiting until 2pm to pull a FP for 8pm, you could pull it in the morning and modify it back. Slightly different than the prebooking aspect though, since it would allow for same day only (and you'd have to activate it in the park, just like today's paper-based FPs).

Of course, these also are subject to the IT issues, but since most of the IT-based stuff would be optional, a full on crash wouldn't have as much effect on the entire system. (Special note. I have a tendency to design... as such, I'm always asking What-Ifs in terms of improving and integrating systems. It's just how my brain works.)

Unfortunately, right now, the unknowns and the "it looks like"s are outweighing the potential positives. The limited number per day, the limited parks per day, the prebooking aspect with the unknown effect on "same day" passes all bring down the potential for the system as a whole.

So...Random thought here...Does anyone think they will cut back on EMH more once FP+ is fully up and running...Perhaps instead of operating the parks extra hours they could do something where they just give you extra FP+s for the resort guest perk?
Right now, anything's a possibility. I haven't heard much about this (though I haven't been following as closely over the past week or so), but I wouldn't be surprised.

Of course, I wouldn't be surprised with many cutbacks on guest experience these days.

This would be extremely upsetting. At the time of year we go, the parks are often not open very late ( EARLY March, like first week ) and we take advantage of evening EMH to enjoy the parks at night. If they did away with that ( without increasing the scheduled hours of course ) we'd be quite upset.

If they increased the hours... I guess it'd be okay even if there's potentially be larger crowds.

PLease forgive me, but I have gotten so far behind in this blog and will never cath up! I have a few questions if someone wouldn't mind...
1.) Has anything changed? Last I heard it is for sure 3 a day, but no one was sure about tiers. Is this still accurate?
2.) Do we have any idea on dates? I do my check-in in 2 days, do I need to worry about picking rides and such? Rollout by Sept?
3.) I read about Mickey "talking" please please PLEASE tell me this doens't mean blinking/talking characters aren't coming to Disney World!!! *shudder* the blinking terrifies me!

Thank you in advance for taking the time to sum it up for me!!! :thumbsup2
and sorry again I couldn't keep up!

Another potential plus is the ability to find people. Similar to Apple's Find my Friend's app you could potentially triangulate the guests in your party to a location. That same tech might also be able to be used to find lost children/parents. Peace of mind right there. :thumbsup2

1) Not much, but in the last test a couple weeks ago (the first with MagicBands for guests), no tiers, and they were still able to use the old system.

2) No idea on dates. Likely at least one more test, probably more, before rollout.

3) I don't have much information on that right now...

3 a day. You can pick any ride once. You can later change them to include duplicate rides. No tiers.

No word on dates.

No update on this. Talking will probably be limited to existing talking characters like the princesses is my guess.

yes there is a lot of great potential with the bands and associated app...

3. In an interview at the D11 Tech conference, Tom Staggs mentioned they are currently working on technology that would allow Mickey to talk in a Mickey voice and call guests by name at M&Gs. No word on blinking.

This would only be possible with the bands though (at least, as far as I understand the technology) since the cards do not have the active tech and therefore must be "scanned" to be seen. The ability to find lost children would certainly make me consider using the bands if I had little ones though! (Note: I'm a fan of the MM+ system minus FP+, but not the bands... I can't stand stuff on my wrists (even the MNSSHP wristbands bother me). As such, I'll be a passive card holder until they rip it out of my hands).

The bands have apparently a limited enough range that they aren't likely to pick up the exact position within the park at all times, but know at least the last time they passed by an active sensor. It isn't GPS, so it isn't constantly sending its location, but if they were near the entrance of an attraction, for example, it could be picked up. Depends on how frequent the sensors are distributed around the park.

What's a bigger plus is they'd be able to scan a lost child's band, and get contact info for the parents...

From the wording in the FAQ, they will have long range scanners (which Chekov will man) that will be able to sense the bands, but not the cards, in WDW. I'll bet this will include the parks, resorts, and any other area of the resort they will want to know about including DTD, the miniature golf sites, etc. It is interesting to note that the card will remain an alternative if you don't want the band, and the card must get close to a sensor. But it will allow less interactivity, so you will lose some functions.

You do not have to wear the band. Since it is disposable, if you know you will NEVER wear it no matter what, maybe you could cut off part of the strap for adusting'fastening and then hang it on a lanyard.

"Each MagicBand contains an HF Radio Frequency device and a transmitter which sends and receives RF signals through a small antenna inside the MagicBand and enables it to be detected at short-range touch points throughout Walt Disney World Resort. MagicBands can also be read by long-range readers located at Walt Disney World Resort used to deliver personalized experiences, as well as provide information that helps us improve the overall experience in our parks.
If you prefer, you may elect to use a card instead of a MagicBand. Cards contain a passive HF Radio Frequency chip and cannot be detected by the long-range readers."

The Touring Plans Lines app says that people checking into Yacht Club are being issued Magic Bands. This is a continuation of prior testing.
:woohoo:

The "long-range" is reported to be only 9-15 feet, based on the frequency and transmitting power.

The short range is EXTREMELY short range...as in practically needing to touch.

Cutting off the band may be an issue...it may depend on how the antenna is configured - it could in fact run through the band, and cutting it could make it inoperable. You CAN make it smaller though...there is an outer section that can be removed to make it smaller for very small wrists.

I'm gonna get me an Abby Sciuto Collection dog collar and
Superglue that Disney wrist doodad right to it.

It oughta have some pretty good RF skip goin' for it from that high up!

9 to 15 feet will be enought for Disney to know every time you get in a queue, everytime you walk into a shop, and everytime you walk through any area smaller than 30 feet across so you come into range of a scanner on one side or another. What an amazing amout of information for analysis of behavioral patters!! What do people do at this temp, at this hour, when it rains, during EMH, during fireworks, etc., etc., etc., etc....

I'm sure you are right about not cutting the band. Although it won't be long until somebody figures out exactly where the antenna goes and posts the information. Wait, now that I think about it, I read that you will be able to trim away the excess band if you desire, so we will be told where it can be cut. If it is designed for the smallest visitor, you should be able to make it very small anyway.

Yes, but you're going to look awfully weird trying to get in to the park getting it near the Mickey head...
