Need Support from all DISers out there. I was so upset to find out today that my OKW GV waitlist actually came through back in July. I was called by MS but did not respond to the offer, therefore some other lucky person got the GV I waitlisted for four months for! I'm so depress!!!!!

Although MS tried to console my grief by telling me that I still have a chance (by placing me back on the waitlist for Dec 1st - Dec 5th), in my mind, it's not likely going to happen with only 40 days to go before the 31 days cutoff.

I've been counting down the days until the family's WDW vacation in Nov/Dec and have been so excited that early mornings are back at WDW. I thought that I better make sure that I'm still on the waitlist for the GV, then, all hell broke lose when MS told me the fact that I was no longer on the waitlist since I was called back on July 19th!!!!! Even though I have requested for them to book the GV automatically and just mail me the confirm. Please tell me that there are still Pixie's dust out there (even though we had our chances blown by the supposed message left by MS).

  :(

I'm sorry. I hope it works out for you.

Just wondering how it happened???Did they leave a message on your machine that you didn't get????

Also, do they call you more then once if you don't respond???What if they miss dial and call the incorrect number???I would hope that they would at least call twice.

Do to Hurricane Isidore I had to cancel a golf trip I had planned at OKW in a 2 Bedroom. I rescheduled for Nov. 10-12, 2002 and all that was available was GRAND VILLAS! Just 6 weeks out. YOU NEVER KNOW ABOUT AVAILIBILITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you and MS talk about how many points extra that would be and that you had enough points for the GV when it came through? If so and you asked them to do it automatically then they should have confirmed the reservation for you even though they couldn't reach you by phone.

But if you read page 38 in the New Member Guidebook - the automatic confirmation is in the 3rd paragraph and then in the 4th paragrah it says that they will call you when the reservation becomes available but will only hold it thru the next business day. So automatic doesn't really mean anything?? This is a bit contradictory.

I would call Member Services on Monday, ask to talk with mgr about what happened vs what you thought would happen and see if anything can be done.

Also, you can ask to have the waitlist extended until 7 days before check-in. We did that at Vero over Labor Day and unfortunately it didn't work for us, but you never know.

In the meantime I would figure out if you have enough points to get 2 - 2BR or some other combination that would work for you and check that out on Monday as well.

Best of luck.

Paragraph 3 explains how automatic confirmation works. Paragraph 4 refers to normal confirmation where you will be called and have 24 hours to accept the reservation offer.

You will NOT be called for auto-wait- you will just receive a confirmation in the mail.

Thanks for your clarification Doc, but in all honesty I still think it's confusing. The paragraphs should have been reversed. Even though the paragraphs are separated, the fact that the info about the telephone call comes after the "auto confirmation" info makes it a bit unclear......especially for new members and folks who haven't had experience with the waitlist.

I'm confused.

I was put on a waitlist and I told them to just go ahead and put it through if it happened. Within a week, I got confirmation that I got what I wanted. I just assumed that's how it worked for everyone.

Shouldn't all people that are put on a waitlist be automatic? Why bother with being called and having to reply within 24 hours? Most people want what they are waitlisted for, right?

Not necessarily, many make other plans in the meantime and need to know if their "number comes up" so they can adjust their plans. Sometimes they don't want what they are waitlisted for.

If they reach a maching, they leave a message, your loss if you don't respond or miss the message.
They will call a few times if you don't have a machine, but, after a few times they just go on down the list.

Makes perfect sense to me and regardless of how it is written, it will confuse some people.
