Prior to 2013, I had never imagined I would ever go to WDW and never knew about Discovery Island. I have never seen pictures. I hate that they closed it. It looks like a neat place.

Hey, I remember Discovery Island. We went there once when the kids were little. I am thinking around 1987??? It was better than I expected.

Wow, thanks for the trip down memory lane!!! We went there every trip with our children. When they would announce the 'reptile' show, I would stay far, far away. We always went in the summer then, and Discovery Island was so hot and humid, would nearly take your breath away.
I'm still sorry they closed it - was different than AK - seems they could have co-existed. Guess it couldn't handle the crowds of today tho'. Or, maybe there'd be few like me that would still enjoy going.

First visit to Fort Wilderness and Discovery Island on NYE 1997. Sadly Discovery Island closed not long after. These photos have been scanned off 35mm slides.

The snake is a Diamond Python. Harmless and gentle.

When the cast members did the reptile show he said the python was from a little known country, I said Australia as it is home for us!

We only go over Christmas so the weather is nice. It is sad Discovery Island is closed but at least Fort Wilderness still exists and the little boats still operate.
