For those that clean with vinegar - What am I missing?

I've been successful with vinegar. If your towels smell like it - you are using too much. I put it in a downy ball.

I just filled the fabric softener compartment in my front-loader, so I doubt that would be too much. It's about the same capacity as a Downy ball. I wonder if it's because I have an extremely efficient front-loader (one from the new Bosch line), so there is not enough water being pumped in to get rid of the vinegar smell. I could run the allergy rinse setting, but I don't think the extra water usage would be worth the benefit - I've gotten used to not using fabric softener (I'm allergic) but I just thought it would be interesting to try the vinegar.

Do you think vinegar will work to get the yellow out of a white bathing suite? For some reason DD's bathing suite is now yellowish. How much would I use in the wash and do I let it soak for a while?

I read somewhere recently to use plain asprin for whites that have yellowed. I have yet to try it but need too.

I also use vinegar in my dishwasher,washer and for floors, windows and mirrors.

I've been using vinegar for months now. It works great! I use a 1/4 cup in the laundry,and put it where the fabric softner goes-then I put some , not too much ,fabric softner in (just for the smell of it) my clothes come out great! My towels come out soft-I stopped using softner on them a year ago when I read in Martha Stewart that softner on towels reduces the absorbency of them. I also put 1 cup of vinegar in the bottom of my dishwasher when I get ready to run it.The dishes come out with more sparkle to me.And I use it on my floor,and windows. I looked up the uses for it on "1001 uses for vinegar" website.

I was thinking about this thread today. I already use vinegar for some things like cleaning my floors and as a rinse aid in my dishwasher. Today I needed to clean my bathrooms and was out of the Lysol all purpose cleaner I usually use. So I sprinkled some baking soda on the bottom of my tub and filled the Lysol spray bottle 3/4 of the way with water and the rest with vinegar (I didn't measure exactly).

Wow. I had no idea that my bathtubs were that dirty. Apparently the Lysol was only getting off the surface dirt. When I started rubbing in the baking soda with vinegar squirted on it the grime really started to come off. My kids bathtub is sparkling right now. And as another poster mentioned, I didn't have to keep stopping to get fresh air from the strong smell. I will definitely be using that from now on.

I haven't tried it in my toilets, I still have a lot of toilet bowl cleaner that I got free with coupons awhile back.

I also use it in my laundry when I first wash new clothes to keep them from bleeding. I don't measure, but usually it's just a splash. The only scent I notice from it is the smell coming from the washer, I can't smell anything besides detergent on the clothes.

Your daughter's bathing suit is probably turning yellow because of suntan lotion. It is turning all my kids white shirts yellow too. I couldn't figure it out and my parents told me what it was they were using Neutrogena suntan lotion and they called them and complained, Neutrogena confirmed the problem and sent them a bunch of coupons. I haven't found anything to take out the stains.

DD8 has ecsema therefore I can't use bleach on her clothing. I've found that soaking the stain with lemon juice (from a real lemon) then laying it out in the sun all day gets rid of most stains on white clothing. And won't ruin the fabric.
