For anyone interested in seeing a gunite pool being built- ahh! crawly/jumpy things!

I love the tile you picked out! It is really coming along! THanks for the update!

Day 34- Yesterday the pool guys came out and backfilled and put in the forms for the deck. This picture shows what the side of the pool looked like before they started.

The first thing they did was remove the wooden braces all around the pool because they are no longer needed.

Strips of styrofoam material were put all around the edge of the pool. The concrete edge of the pool will rest on this so it is not actually attached to the tile. Something to do with ground/concrete shifting when the ground freezes in the winter. The edge of the concrete can move slightly to allow for expansion.

Another shot of the styrofoam edging.

This is the beginning of forming the deck area. It will be four feet around except near the shallow end of the pool where it will extend out twelve feet.

Adding more backfill. It took two truckloads of fill to complete the backfilling.

This is what it looked like at the end of the day yesterday. They ran a roller type machine over the area that will be filled with concrete. Many of these pictures were taken from one of our upstairs bedroom windows. It made it easier to look down on the pool area and get more of it in a picture. This morning they poured the concrete. I'll try to get those pictures posted next.

It looks awesome! With these latest pictures, you can really get a feel for how big the pool is.

So when is the DIS pool party?

wow - it's coming along...we just got our survey complete today so it can go for permitting tomorrow and then that will be a 6 week wait until we have a hole!!

Just as soon as we get water! HaHa! :)

I am soooo excited for you! We signed our contract on Wednesday and we the excavation could begin for us a week from today. We go tomorrow to the "rock yard" to pick out our tile, stone coping, rocks and boulders.

I think I will copy your idea and start a thread on our pool progress (as soon as it actually starts). Hope ya don't mind. ;)

I would love to see your progress also! We just had our plumbing completed...this has been a long process for us - pool companies in Maryland have been VERY busy. We signed our contract 7/15. Excavation was 8/5. Steel was 8/11. And plumbing 8/17 & 18. I was happy it took long to get going witht he excavation though because we decided to make the pool bigger than originally planned, so we had time to make those changes. Originally it was to be 32 x 18 ...now we are at 36x21 :sunny: Can't wait!!

I would love to have a pool someday. I just have to move far enough away from my SIL and MIL so they weren't at my house all the time. ;)

It would be fun to follow other pool threads! I'm so excited because today they are plastering our pool and filling it with WATER! Fencing can't be done until Monday, so the fence company will erect a temporary fence for the weekend. I won't be posting for a few days though because I'm leaving in just a bit to take DD14 on an overnight trip. I'll make sure my husband takes lots of pictures of the pool progress! NOBODY gets in that pool until I get back from this short trip! See you in a few days! :teeth:

I absolutely LOVE the tile you chose!! I does resemble a snowflake! Pool is looking wonderful.......adding water.........how cool is that!! Enjoy!!!

Have a fun overnight outing!!!!

Day 35- The concrete was poured for the decking around the pool.

Pouring and smoothing.

They're just about finished pouring on the right hand side, and they are smoothing out the rest of it. Most of the concrete follows the shape of the pool, four feet out from the edge. At the shallow end we went out aproximately thirteen feet to allow room for a table and chairs, etc.

The concrete "scored" with lines.

Thanks! My daughter and I had a great time. The only bad part was hitting the George Washington Bridge at rush hour on a Friday evening. YIKES! I also missed seeing the plaster put on the pool and the water being put in, but my husband took pictures which I'll post tomorrow. :)

aauurrgghhh! It looks AWESOME!! I want mine and I want mine NOW!! It was 101 here today. :sunny: :sunny:

Day 36- A lot was done today! This is what the pool looked like before plastering and before the light was installed.

Steps in the shallow end before plastering. The fence panels are sitting on the deck waiting to be installed, also.

The plaster was blown on with a special hose-type thingy, (not a very technical term I'm sure), then smoothed by hand.

Plaster is finished. What a difference the white plaster makes! So smooth and new looking!

Same day, later that afternoon- WATER! The company that supplied the water came out right after the plaster went on. It took three truck loads of water, and then we topped it off with our garden hose. Unfortunately, the truck should have parked on the lawn. Due to the weight of the truck and water, the driveway suffered some damage. We'll have to repair a few cracks.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Almost ready for a swim! Fencing is going up today, then tomorrow the pool company will be out to get everything running. The electrician will also be out to hook up some lights, etc. Can't wait!
