For anyone interested in seeing a gunite pool being built- ahh! crawly/jumpy things!

You can be sure from now on I'll be more observant when I reach in for that basket handle! I'm guessing the critters in the basket had something to do with the rain we had last night.

We took a plastic hanger and broke off the top (hook part). We use the part that you would use foe hanging your shirt on as a hook to get the skimmer basket out. You can bet that I an not putting my hand in the skimmer to get a susrprise out!!!

Your pool looks wonderful. We put ours in during the fall (slow time). From the day the they started digging to the day we were in the pool, it took 19 days!! :cloud9:

We have actually had to add ice to bring down the pool temp this year. In July the water temp was 95 degrees. My DH emptied the ice maker into the pool and that brought the temp down to a cool 94.9 degrees :rotfl2: .

Enjoy the rest of the summer!!

I found a rat in our skimmer once... I am still a bit gunshy when I open the top.... at least it was a dead rat. (funny how one can be grateful for a dead rat!)

Just wait until you fish your first LARGE animal out... we bent our skimming pole with a bloated raccoon. DH loved coming home from work and having to do that little chore... Um Honey???

Thanks for the hanger idea! I'm going to put one down by the pool today!

Our pool water temperature has been averaging around 78 degrees. We've only had it operating for about a week. I'm hoping next summer the water temp will rise higher, but of course it'll never reach the temperature your pool did! Not in Maine!

Okay, now I'm REALLY going to be afraid to look in that basket! We have some landscaping to do which includes filling in gaps between the ground and the bottom of the fence. I'm going to be sure there's hardly any space between the fence and the ground. That should keep anything too large from entering the pool area, and I don't think any critters could climb the fence.

Besides all of the "normal" creatures one finds in the skimmer, ie frogs, snakes, mice, etc, my parents once had a dead bloated skunk in their pool :earseek:

Not fun at all, all of the oils from the skunk destroyed the water, the whole pool had to be drained and cleaned.

If I get a chance, I'll post some pictures of people actually IN the pool! Thanks for following along and I hope it was fun. Any questions, just ask. :)

Sure - I have a question - where are the pictures of people in the pool? :flower: Ours is coming along - the plumbers are running the gas line today btween the heater & the house. Backfill & concrete decking are to be done Wednesday! We are going to have a pool & then have to close it in a couple of weeks....at least we will be all set for next year!

The snake's little tongue was darting in and out- really freaked me out!

I'm sure that he was on POed snake! :rotfl: He should have been grateful to you for saving him, but I don't think that snakes think that way.

I know that at our community pool they keep a chair turned upside down at the edge of the pool, partially in the water. That way if any little critter falls in it can get out by climbing up the chair. I'm sure they learned that the hard way... I don't do dead animals--my DH would have to take care of anything dead, which is why he doesn't like it when our dog catches rabbits.

Sorry, I haven't looked in on this thread in awhile! I do have some pictures from daughter's pool party, but I was hesitant to post them. Most of the pictures have several people in them and I don't want to put anyone's picture on here without their permission. I'll see if I have any of just family members. I promise to post some!

Your pool sounds like it is coming along nicely. I know what you mean about having the pool then having to close it up. Ours is still open and the next three days are supposed to be in the high 80's. That is NOT usual for Maine in September!
