Florida Resident rate without FL license?

I read on the Disney website that you can use a Florida college ID to get the Florida resident rate at on-property hotels. My husband is enrolled at the University of South Florida as a master's degree candidate but is completing his degree off-campus- so we both have USF IDs.

Has anyone ever used just a college ID at check-in? It says on the Disney website that it is valid proof, but it makes me nervous- especially since USF ID cards don't have expiration dates on them. How do we prove that he is a current student?

I believe that you would need a current utility bill, or some other piece of mail establishing current residency.

I own a house in Florida but live in Georgia. I don't have a Florida Driver's License, but I do have a Florida ID card. You can get one with your student I.D. I think it cost $15.

They've actually started pushing for driver's license only. My mom's friends have a condo here in Florida and only actually live here for 6 months of the year, they weren't allowed the discount with utility bills as it didn't make them Florida residents. Disney told them it's for Florida residents, meaning people who have declared Florida as their resident/domicle not those who own property here.

You can go down and get ID at the driver's license bureau if you wish.

My Father lives with us in NY during the warmer months and lives in FL the rest of the year. Can he get a FL ID card and still hold a NY drivers license?
If you can help, I'd appreciate it. I hate to call DMV.

Thanks!!

They cannot push DL's only, not everyone drives. I think that is why they will accept the offical state issued ID card. That along with the college ID should be ok. My mom is 75 & has no DL but she is a resident. They do not accept utility bills or tax bills anymore. They will take a voters reg with the state ID card as well. They just do not accept bills anymore. I don't mean to sound like I am jumping on you, but there is no way they can push for DL's only.

Me personally, I consider a Drivers License and a Non-Drivers License to be the same thing, ID wise. They're both state issued, and valid for age checks and residency checks. Perhaps its wrong, but I (and Im sure others) refer to them as DLs as a general term.

We also own a vacation home in Florida. We use it maybe 6-8 weeks a year as we have young children in school. I pay the same in property taxes, utilities etc.. as any individual who resides in Florida 365 days a year. There is no state income tax in Florida so my value as a part time resident is no different than a full time resident. That said, the state of Florida "gets it" even if Disney doesn't. You are eligible for a part time resident drivers license. It is valid in the state of Florida only and it doesn't negate your primary drivers license

You used to be able to get a Driver's License that was good for in state driving only. A friend of mine had a NY DL and a Florida license at the same time. The FL license had something printed on it that said only valid in the State of Florida. I'm not sure if you can still get one or not. He was an employee of the USPS and they accepted it, so I'm sure it's valid at WDW. You might want to check the FL Division of Motor Vehicles to see if this license is still available.

They will accept FL college ID's as well. We had friends that where going to UF but actually live in GA and they where able to use there college ID's and had no problems at all.

True, you pay the same taxes, but utilites????? no way! I am not starting an arugment & it really has no relation to being a FL resident or not, but how can you say same utilites. If you aren't in the house 365 days a year, you aren't using the same water, electric, phone..... maybe same pool & lawn service as well as trash pick up (in my city, trash is added into your taxes). Your "value" as a part time is a big difference than a full time. If you aren't in the state 365 days a year, you aren't contributing to the state 365 days a year (shopping, entertainment, tolls, food etc....) there is a big difference. But to follow up with what you have stated...Yes, they should be eligable for a non-resident DL. I know I have asked this before, but cannot remember the answer (no, I don't need one I am a resident), but does Disney accept the non resident DL's as proof?
Here is what the offical web site says...

Proof of Florida residency per adult is required - you must provide any one of the following:
Florida driver's license
Florida state-issued ID card (must have Florida address)
Florida voter's registration card with corresponding
picture ID
A college ID for a Florida college
Florida-based military ID

How good are Florida rates usually? Are they a percentage off or just a lower price?

A Mickeyfan -- Gee, take a deep breath. If Swimmom pays property taxes for the entire year, but her kids don't attend school in FL, she's doing you and other Floridians a favor!

Anyone who pays 365 days' worth of property taxes and doesn't use the schools, deserves your thanks. She and others like her keep your property taxes down!

I'd say that is contributing to the state big time!!

Could be... but I usually don't. I am sorry if the poster meant it in that way, but again, not everyone looks at them that way. Disney has them listed as seperate items as well :confused3

Our school taxes aren't like what you would think (up north), they don't amount to much at all. There are many people that live here year round & don't use the school system. That really dosen't mean much. I want to say the portion of school tax on my bill is like under $500. What I was trying to point out is that there is no way a person that stays 8 weeks or so can support the economy the way a year round resident does that is all. Yes, I know it helps our state, but there is a big $$$ difference when you calculate everything in.

Beside the fact that her comment really had nothing to do with getting the the ID. The amount of money isnt' what qualifies you :confused3 She could have just left that part out, simple as that. I didn't jump on anyone, I just comment back to hers.

They use to be just as good as AP discounts but now they are slightly lower. They are (as AP's) a percentage

IE: Dec value season value resort BRP (AP) is $59 vs FL $64.
Hope this helps you

Hi- We are going to Disney in November and I have a problem that maybe someone will be able to help with. I am in Mississippi and have no Florida ID.

I bought tickets on Ebay, or should I say won them- I haven't paid yet- that someone bought at the disney store and after I won them he tells me they are Florida resident tickets.
1 is adult- 1 is child-

Keep in mind I did not set out to beat any system just wanted tickets a little cheaper now that the prices have gone up. I didn't know about the resident part til afterwards. The guy answered a question I had sent him after the listing ended.

My 2 part question is this-
1. Can you buy Florida residents tickets at the Disney Store or am I being conned?
2. If these are legitimate- Can I use them at the gate or do they need Florida resident proof? I was under the impression that you showed ID to buy them- Not use them.

I have read that I can get a Florida ID but won't be arriving til a Saturday and plan on going on Sunday. DMV is closed. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have the hard tickets in your hand, they won't stop you at the turnstile and ask for ID. I don't foresee a problem as long as the tickets are unused.

EDIT: If it's just a voucher you have to exchange at Will Call for hard tickets, then they most likely would check for ID.

Thank You so much! I was freaking out when I got that late email about the tickets being resident tickets. Can you just see my kids not getting in because Momma is a dope and doesn't have the money to pay for more tickets at the last second?

Do they sell FL residents tickets at the disney store?
