Florida Resident rate without FL license?

I am pretty sure they do, although I have never bought them at the Disney Store. I'm an online shopper. :surfweb:

I do want to stress that if the tickets are unused and legitimate, you shouldn't have a problem. Is the eBay seller on the up-and-up? Not trying to scare you, but I have heard of some shady deals regarding park tickets sold on eBay. If you haven't paid yet, my advice would be to check this guy's feedback carefully and ask him any questions you may have regarding the tickets (if you haven't already). Again, not trying to scare you or anything, just wanted to make you aware.

Thanks- I consider myself an Ebay veteran but I should have waited for his reply before bidding. I was just caught up on the saving money idea.
Here's what I know- The pic he showed on Ebay showed the hanging tab of the ticket still intact so it appears to have not gone through the turnstile.
He says it isn't used signed or finger printed.
And I am paying by credit card through Pay Pal so I can reverse the charges if it turns out I am wrong.
My guess is that he bought them at the Florida resident price and resold them for regular tickets for a profit. That is why I think I didn't get an answer til after the listing closed. I saved money from what I would have paid at regular price, but if I have to upgrade to a regular ticket I will pay $40.00 per ticket then gate prices plus tax!
That would be a bummer!

If you have the hard tickets in your hand, they won't stop you at the turnstile and ask for ID. I don't foresee a problem as long as the tickets are unused.

EDIT: If it's just a voucher you have to exchange at Will Call for hard tickets, then they most likely would check for ID.

Actually that's not the case. DH was randomly asked for ID once.

If there is any problem at all with the ticket you will have to show Florida resident ID.

You are right- I didn't think about that. I was hoping NOT to have any problems with the ticket.
We will also be going to Universal that week so maybe we ought to go there first and I can get an ID on Monday to be safe.

Uh-oh. :scared: I've never been asked for ID once I had the hard tickets in my hand and I have been to WDW several times. Has anyone else ever been asked?

dismomma, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you don't have any problems!

I haven't paid for them yet. I don't want it to be a scam. They are supposed to be faxing me the receipt before I pay. I just noticed a little icon on the bottom of the Ebay photo that means it's a stock photo- Not a photo of the actual item. So I am goingto ask if that is still in tact also. that willmean it is unused.
Unless- Of course- If the disney store leaves them out like guft cards and they are stolen and no good. Which is why a receipt will help.

True, you pay the same taxes, but utilites????? no way! I am not starting an arugment & it really has no relation to being a FL resident or not, but how can you say same utilites. If you aren't in the house 365 days a year, you aren't using the same water, electric, phone..... maybe same pool & lawn service as well as trash pick up (in my city, trash is added into your taxes). Your "value" as a part time is a big difference than a full time. If you aren't in the state 365 days a year, you aren't contributing to the state 365 days a year (shopping, entertainment, tolls, food etc....) there is a big difference.

I have to disagree. For about a year I owned a home in NJ and a home in Florida. We were in Florida on average four days a month. Then I moved into the Florida house f/t. My electric bill increased about $10 a month. My phone, cable, trash, irrigation water and sewer bills were the same as they are now. My water bill went up about $2 a month. We spent MORE before we were f/t residents than we do now, in terms of entertainment, eating out, etc. We used to buy annual passes, now I've got a seasonal, and DH and DS no longer have AP's of any type. About the only thing that we spend more on now is gasoline, haircuts, and Barnies coffee--even most of my clothes still come from a store in NJ and my latest car purchase came from a NJ dealer as well.

Additionally, those who don't live in the home full time can't homestead, and pay higher taxes, and often higher insurance premiums because insurers charge a higher premium for a seasonally occupied/second home, and many p/t residents have to pay a property management company to keep an eye on the home--something us full timers don't do.

But to follow up with what you have stated...Yes, they should be eligable for a non-resident DL. I know I have asked this before, but cannot remember the answer (no, I don't need one I am a resident), but does Disney accept the non resident DL's as proof?
Here is what the offical web site says...

Proof of Florida residency per adult is required - you must provide any one of the following:
Florida driver's license
Florida state-issued ID card (must have Florida address)
Florida voter's registration card with corresponding
picture ID
A college ID for a Florida college
Florida-based military ID

Yes, anyone can walk into DMV and get a Florida ID with some basic proof of who they are, but I'm really waiting for Disney to start cracking down on that due to abuse (and it is abuse) and require something with a Florida address on it in addition to the State on ID/DL, like a lease, utility bill, bank statement, etc.

Florida Resident rates are given to thank Florida residents for being there for WDW suring the slow seasons, and I'd hate to lose them due to abuse by people who shouldn't be taking advantage of them.

That little camera icon doesn't mean it's a stock photo, it means it's hosted on ebay.

The seller will likely not want to show you teh receipt as the serial numbers for thsoe tickets is printed on them. Yes, TDS leaves them out, but they aren't activated until they are scanned through the register and paid for.

Additionally if WDW gets hold of the serial numbers they will cancel the ticktes and you'll be out of luck.

Anne

Our school taxes aren't like what you would think (up north), they don't amount to much at all.

The school taxes part of my tax bill comes to roughly $6K a year. Maybe not much to you, but it's a lot of coinage to me.

There are many people that live here year round & don't use the school system. That really dosen't mean much. I want to say the portion of school tax on my bill is like under $500. What I was trying to point out is that there is no way a person that stays 8 weeks or so can support the economy the way a year round resident does that is all. Yes, I know it helps our state, but there is a big $$$ difference when you calculate everything in.

When people who only live here p/t are here, they are in vacation mode. They spend, spend, spend. Shopping, dining out, entertainment. I'd say that most probably spend as much in a week as what those of us who live here do in a month. (I know I used to.)

Ahhhh- I am learning so much. I do NOT want to be the guilty looking party at the gate trying to explain my way out of something when I did not intentionally try to break the rules. I just wanted to make sure before I pay and end up on the short end of a stick but I am also trying to do right by Ebay policy also. I should have just waited for the reply before I bid. Hindsight is 20/20. Now no matter what I do- Someone will be unhappy.

I'm not going to tell you what to do, but this is what I would do.

Flat out tell the seller that you won't finish the transaction because you bid before he disclosed a fundamental problem with teh tickets. he should ahve stated from the very beginning that they were only good for Florida residents.

Additionally the sale of Disney Tickets is illegal and that is specifically stated on the back of the ticket. So he is not only breaking the law, he is also commiting fraud. I can't see how ebay would take his side in that.

Even if they did, taking the miniscule hit on your feedback, and responding with the fact that you leared after you bid that resale of the item was illegal.

IMHO it's FAR better to cut your losses now and buy your tickets through a legitimate venue than get to the gate and be disappointed and out a lot of cash.

Hey- I didn't know it was illegal? There are so many on Ebay. If you decide not to use your tickets Disney doesn't refund your money so I don't understand why people can't try and get their money back some other way.

In this case though- I think you are right. Had they been regular tickets I wouldn't even be asking these questions. I think I just wanted an opinion on the thoughts running through my head. I just can't imagine ruinning a vacation for the $40 bucks I saved per ticket.
Thanks!

FYI--one of the reasons people don't show the back of the tickets in teh photo is because that's where the disclaimer that resale is illegal is, and also it will show the serial numbers. WDW goes through ebay listings and will cancel tickets being sold on ebay if they can get the serial numbers. This happened to someone who posts on the Budget Board and was selling her leftover ticket on ebay--they cancelled it, and she had to refund the moeny to the buyer, and WDW would not reinstate the ticket.

Thanks again for your advice. You can sometimes see through the fog when someone helps you. I knew what was right in the back of my head but my cheap side got the better of me when I realized I had to make a decision. I REALLY had no idea it was illegal though. Ebay had to stop the selling of Disney Jibbitz because they were a liscensed Disney item. I guess I just assumed that Disney would do that for any item that was not allowed to be sold.
Hey wait-Can I buy them from a broker? That is my next stop- I have to try and save money anyway I can and if not Ebay then a broker? I have 4 kids to buy for and only one is under 9.

Yes! There are several Disney Authorized ticket resellers.

I haven't used any of them, although I've read that many people have had very satisfactory experiences with several of them. (Maple Leaf Tickets and Ticketmania come to mind, I know there are a few others that are legit and WDW sanctioned.) I'm sure if you start a new thread about which brokers are good you'll get some good advice.

You might want to post over on the Budget Board, lots of people over there have some great money-saving tips for WDW.

Thanks - Right after I email the seller on Ebay---I love this board- I have gotten SOOOO much helpful advice from here.

What I have to say is a general announcement, and is not directed towards any specific post or person(s). I just want to make sure that folks understand ticket policies, so that they don't have any issues, and can have a stress-free magical good time. :) (And although I am a cast member, what I say below is me as an off the clock Guest who frequents this board and loves Disney)

NEVER EVER buy Disney tickets from anyone who is not an AUTHORIZED Disney reseller. (And yes, there are ways to buy legitimate tickets at some savings!)

As a cast member, I've seen far too many family vacations ruined by folks trying to save a buck or two (and honestly, I can't blame then for wanting to save money, Disney IS expensive!).

The problem lies within these things:

1 - People are dishonest. Not everyone. But enough. There is NO WAY for you to tell if a ticket is valid, short of going up to a turnstile, inserting the ticket, and hoping the light turns green. Far too often, it turns red.

Those tickets you see on eBay and on 192... for all anyone knows, they could be completly used up, they might have expired, they could be stolen, or they might not even be activated. The tickets that you get at The Disney Store for example... they don't get activated until they get purchased at the register. If someone just goes in, and take the tickets off the rack, they look fine, but they're not activated.

2 - Disney tickets are non-transferrable. Although enforcement of this has been rather lax up until recent years, all Disney tickets have always had the fine print on the back, "non-transferrable." Current Magic Your Way tickets require signatures on the back, and biometric finger scans to identify the user. If the finger scan doesn't match, they will ask for ID.

3 - When purchasing any Florida Resident ticket, you must give valid proof of FL residency, along with demographic information. (ie: name and address) This then becomes encoded onto the card (Well, the info gets stored in a database, and linked to the entitlement number). Disney park greeters can and might ask for ID upon park entry. If the names do not match, they will not let you in.

4 - A lot of Florida Resident "Tickets" are actually vouchers that can be exchanged for tickets at any ticket window. Proof of FL residency and matching names are required at this point.

Now...... going back to the original situation... with the above being said... if the seller did not disclose that they were FL Resident tickets, I would try and get out of the sale. That's a HUGE thing. That's like selling a TV in the US and saying it works... but then when you go to pick it up, you find out it only works in Europe.

I understand that you wish to save money on tickets... with the recent increase, they are expensive. But... the way I look at it is this... what is peace of mind worth to you? It's better to pay a little bit more, than to have to pay double. There is NO guarantee that those tickets will work. And the thought of you and your child getting up to the gates, and having a problem really kills me.

Hi- We are going to Disney in November and I have a problem that maybe someone will be able to help with. I am in Mississippi and have no Florida ID.

I bought tickets on Ebay, or should I say won them- I haven't paid yet- that someone bought at the disney store and after I won them he tells me they are Florida resident tickets.
1 is adult- 1 is child-

Keep in mind I did not set out to beat any system just wanted tickets a little cheaper now that the prices have gone up. I didn't know about the resident part til afterwards. The guy answered a question I had sent him after the listing ended.

My 2 part question is this-
1. Can you buy Florida residents tickets at the Disney Store or am I being conned?
2. If these are legitimate- Can I use them at the gate or do they need Florida resident proof? I was under the impression that you showed ID to buy them- Not use them.

I have read that I can get a Florida ID but won't be arriving til a Saturday and plan on going on Sunday. DMV is closed. Any help would be appreciated.

Wanted to add for the OP, when you go to the DMV to apply for a FL ID, you don't receive the card in the mail for 30 days. They don't give any temp. ID.

Also, many of the DMV offices are by appt. only and for the more popular offices you may have to wait for a few weeks before you can get an appt. I went to one of the larger offices in our area and I had to wait for 3 weeks to get an appt.

I hope you get this issue resolved. I would not follow through on the transaction since such a major issue was not disclosed.

Thanks to everyone for your help in this matter.
I did email the seller of the tickets and explained the situation. When I first questioned him- he was a little gruff sounding in his replies like I was offending him. Then as our communication continued he seemed to be just annoyed.

I have to say that I was SOOOOO tempted to just complete the transaction- Cuz I am a budget freak and LOVE to save money- Not just on Disney- ON EVERYTHING!!!!

Well, after the advice I got here I explained that I was not going to complete the transaction and why and he agreed that I could pay him $5.00 for his listing fees and trouble. But this morning when I was checking stuff out on my Ebay- (I also sell high end handbags and shoes)- I saw where he is no longer a registered user.

Huh- Imagine that. I bet it WAS all just a scam. Another instance of this board being a great tool for vacationing.
Thanks again to my Jiminy Crickets being my concsious(sp?):woohoo:
