Flight of Passage + People of Size = Disappointing

The last time I went on FOP was Dec 2017. I'll be riding again in just over 2 weeks. I am 5'7 and weigh around 295. I carry my weight in my middle. My calves however are pretty slim proportionately. They are 15 1/2 inches in diameter. I had no issue fitting and don't anticipate it being an issue next month. I'll report back on this thread though.

Hoping someone can help me with regards to the knee issues others have bought up please.

My husband has had ACL surgery and will be 9 months post surgery when we go. We haven't ridden FOP before. Are your knees forced that back? He is around 250lbs so worried his knees and particularly his bad one is going to be forced back by a helpful CM trying to close his restraints. He does have slim calves/legs and carries his weight around the middle. He can get his knee to around 110 degrees.

Thanks so much everyone!

Other than FOP, the only ride I really didn't fit on was Primeval Whirl. That was because of big boobs that the lap bar couldn't get past. Once I got on, I couldn't get off until it was over. It was worse than a mammogram :mad:.
So sorry! That sounds awful!!

Hey everyone so update, I’ve been on the ride about 5 times total and every time the leg restraints take a bit of fussing with from a cm before the lock in. We are heading back next week and I’m thinking of skipping it because I just know one of these times I’ll be told it’s a no and just don’t want that embarrassment. Is there a measurement of what size calves fit? I know that sounds goofy but someone above mentioned a measurement and honestly there is 46 pages here I’m not sure I have hours to read through. Anyone else have weird tricks to get your legs to fit?

6'0, 340# (Big tummy, wear 3XL Shirt) and I was able to ride FoP in October 2018 and February 2019 without issue. Back support did not initially lock on its own, but CM was able to just push slightly to secure. Leg restraints were not an issue. I was actually more comfortable in FoP than 7 Dwarfs or Space Mountain. When getting on the ride vehicle, always slide as much forward as possible. When the CM advises restraints are engaging, sit up tall and straight, suck your tummy in, and press toward the front. Once locked, relax and enjoy the ride and you won't even think about restraints. Heading back end of October and plan to ride FoP again without concern.

I just know I didn't fit at 22". My left calf (the big injured one) is at 20" now cause I lost 60 pounds, and I'm going the end of October. I'm hoping I can ride it this time.

I've been on this ride several times, including back when I weighed 3 bills or so. Now I'm at 230. I always fit, but its always awkward because I have big feet and my right ankle is partially fused. No real mobility issues or anything because I've learned to compensate for the limited motion. That makes it difficult to flex my ankle to fit into the slot, which means the leg restraints are always grumpy with me.

My DH had ACL surgery and was 11 months post-op when we went. He's smaller, but had no issue bending his knee to get on this ride. The thought never occurred to us. When are you going? Is he still going to physical therapy? I don't recall how far my DH was able to bend his knee at that point, but he was almost completely back to normal by then.

Thank you for your help! We are going at the end of November so will be just under 9 months post op. He can bend his knee back to the full 115 degrees his left one can bend too and his physical therapist is about to sign him off. He already walked around Disneyland for 20,000 steps a day 2 months post op so with the reassurance of your post I think he will be fine! Thank you for your help and I hope your husband is doing well after his ACL surgery! :)

more comfortable in FoP than 7 Dwarfs
I am going to Pandora for the first time. I am 6’2” and heavy, but I usually fit in rides. Looking forward to it.

My 2017 trip, my daughter and I did 7 Dwarfs. We had 3FP, since my husband didn’t want to ride. She was going to another FP after and me to another 7D. I was so uncomfortable in the knees hitting the front of the car, that I gave her my FP too. That ride is not for long legs, but I am hopeful for FoP.

My problem is that I do not touch the ground in many ride seats...I am just above 5 feet tall. I wear size 18, but the leg restraint was awkward because of where I am used to putting my feet, which means I expect them to just kinda float...once I slid all the way forward and my feet were on the ground, more of a tippytoe, (which was not comfortable till I settled in) it was fine.

Just as a reference, I had to sit in the Larger seat on the HP ride, but I think I could have managed in a regular seat, I just had an impatient employee.

If you are short, FOP can be awkward, not just for people of size!
Are your feet supposed to reach the floor? I am just 5 feet, so mine did not, but I didn’t expect them to. I found the vehicle pretty comfortable.

Tuesday was my AK day. I had a FOP Fast Pass for Friday, with the intent of coming back if I fit in the test seat. I tried the test seat with two different cast members and it was a no for me. :( I asked the second person if it was my calves or the rest of me, and she said calves. In particular I know it was my left calf, as I don't even remember feeling the restraint on my right calf cause I was concentrating on my left.

For reference, my shoe size is 6 (that would be 36 for Europeans), which I thought would work to my advantage, and my left calf is 22".

I posted that Oct 29, 2017. Now two years later, I rode it twice. I lost 70 pounds since then, and my left calf was down to 20" (my right calf is 18.5"). The restraints didn't close on their own, the cast member had to squeeze it closed. The first time I rode it, I thought they were going to say no cause it didn't seem like it was locking. I had just waited in the standby line for 2 hours cause of technical issues, so I wasn't too happy at that point. But he got it shut. And I rode it. It was a bit of a let down. I rode it again the next day cause I had a fast pass, and I had a seat more towards the center (I was on the end in seat 1 the first time) and it seemed a little better, but I still feel like the ride was over-hyped. I rather go on Na'vi River Journey. Luckily I got to go on that both days as well.

My next goal is to lose enough weight that I can go to Universal Studios on the next FL trip and go on the Harry Potter rides.

Wow, congrats on the weight loss. I must admit I concur the ride is underwhelming to me. It’s fun, but man...no freaking way I’d wait more than 40 minutes in line for it.

I’ve been a long time lurker and read this thread and others to figure out if I’d fit on the ride or not. Well, I just got off the ride and I fit with no assistance from the cast member, but it was definitely borderline. I used all the tips I learned from others in this thread, i moved all the way forward before sitting down, I sat up straight, wore flip flops and scrunched my toes while also lifting my legs up. The locking mechanism came up and I heard the click of the locks.

I found people giving their measurements was the most helpful and not going by weight alone so here are mine:
Height: 5’9”
Waist: 45”
Hips: 55”
Calves: 21” sitting down, 20” standing up

I hope someone is able to find this useful. :)

So, we went on FoP on a FP+ on Tuesday, and my BF had problems fitting his legs into the bike. The cast member got the restraint in on his back, but then really had to push to get the restraint to click closed on his calves. BF said the bike was uncomfortable and he was worried he would injure his back, which had been hurting him, but I told him to just relax forward, and he was fine.

We loved the ride and wanted to try a second time during EMH, since the line time went down. We waited over an hour, and when it was our turn, the cast member who fitted the restraints couldn't fit the calves and gave up more easily than the former cast member, and turned BF away. We were crushed. They didn't even offer him a FP to make up for it.

I don't know how much he weighs (300 lbs maybe?), but the main problem was actually his tall legs and big calves. He's never not been able to ride a ride before.

So much work and intricate planning went into every detail of this land, from the forced perspective, to the crazy flora, to hand-weaving, hand-painted murals, all the cool "scientific" technical gack on the FoP line, how the walls feel when people lean on them or touch them on the line of Navi River Journey, to the detail of feeling the banshee "breathe" on FoP. I am pretty shocked that they overlooked such a big detail such as making it possible for many different body types to ride this ride. I mean, the restraints aren't really all that necessary as far as I can see. You tilt way forward at times and you tilt to the side at times. It's largely VR. They can't make the seats more adjustable, or at least make bigger bikes or seats for bigger people? This is a huge gaffe, and really unfair.

Also, I noticed they put a bike outside of the ride "to try", but it wouldn't prevent you waiting on the long line for nothing, because there is no indication of the restraints. My BF fit fine on the bike.
My sister also wasn’t able to ride because of her calves. The CM was very apologetic and gave our entire party 2 anytime FPs. Not sure if they only did that because we used FPs for the ride. The rest of did ride without her.

For the tall folks, my 6’7” husband was able to ride but it was uncomfortable on his calves. The CM had to manually click the calf restraints (his calves are 16”) and they left indentations in his calves. I think his big feet (size 17 shoes) contributed to the issue as he couldn’t scoot his feet up. He still enjoyed the ride and was glad he got to go on it.

My DH was unable to ride. He's 6'4", 300#, size 13 shoe. Calf restraint would not lock. I also think his legs were too long, but I have also heard of people removing their shoes to allow for more leg room. He didn't remove his shoes. They escorted him out and gave us 2 FP's.

I'm really worried my DH won't fit because if his height and shoe size. He's 6'4, about 250#, and wears a 13 also. He has long legs, but they are skinny legs. Crossing my fingers.

My DH is 6'4" and a size 12 shoe (220lbs) and fit with no issues. I, on the other hand, had a hard time getting the back restraint to click, but I'm 280lb, 5'8". It did close, but was a very tight and somewhat uncomfortable fit.

My dh is 6'5", 205-210# and wears size 16 shoes and fit. Not sure if he had to do anything special to make it work.
