Flight Delay and Will Miss Transatlantic Cruise

Hopefully missing the first leg of the trip didn't cause problems for the return flight home!

That's only an issue if the person flying causes the change. In this case it was the airline, and the airline was aware of the issues.

Just curious -- is Disney going to refund this family for the days they missed on the ship? Or maybe Delta should?

They didn't have insurance so probably not. Sadly a lesson to be learned. We always fly in 1-2 days prior and now always buy insurance (but not through DCL). OP, hope you have a good cruise. You deserve it with such a horrible start!

Delta will not take any responsibility for this. Delta has a responsibility, per the very one sided contract of carriage, to get you from point A to point B, OR to give a refund of the flight. That is all. There is no more after this.

I agree. I just was not clear as to what the PP was asserting.

It would have been nice after the concern we all showed, if we got the courtesy of letting us know how it all turned out.

If someone posted something like this about me, I would drag my heels before giving any updates.

We know the trans-Atlantic cruise is over, but does anyone know if OP planned to spend additional time in Europe?

I'm hoping the other poster didn't mean their comment as harshly as it sounded.

Hopefully when the poster has got home and settled in then they will come back and post as the cruise didn't finish that long ago!

Well it is possible they are spending some time over there before coming home. So time will time

AKK

That's so awful and disappointing! It's good they offered to get you to Boston. You will miss a couple of days. Perhaps the kids can focus on the rest of the trip and perk up a bit. :)

You've got to be kidding! THEY booked the air. She called twice. Getting her to Boston is the absolute minimum they could do. Disappointed in Disney.

I didn't take it that way. It's not uncommon for people on these boards to start threads asking for help and then never come back and update. I've seen it a lot. I doesn't bother me, but it would be nice to have an update.

I agree. I can see how it might be interpreted as harsh but I appreciate the sentiment. The situation was so dramatic, it would be nice to hear how it turned out. Of course, no one is required to take their thread full circle.

Wow I could say a lot of things, but I'll just say I bet you are a really "nice guy."

All I said was that since so many people expressed concern for their situation and they were so active in posting their problems, follow up would have been nice. Nothing wrong with asking for that. And quite honestly, I thought the TA was completed already. If they are still onboard, that could explain the silence.

Think it finished Sunday but could be in Copenhagen and without Internet. Agree I'm hopeful they will reappear to mention how it went as would be nice to know it was good in the end (or not) lol

We did the EBTA last year and then stayed another week in Europe. We were too busy to get online until we got back to the US more than a week after the cruise.

Agreed - most people stay awhile since its such a pain to get there! Then life happens - heck it sounds like they may open a grievance when they get back too, so maybe there isn't even a full resolution yet. :)

Just curious about the luggage. I didn't think the airlines would allow luggage to fly without the owners. In fact, I think I read something recently about flights being delayed because the airline had to remove the luggage of folks who got caught in security lines and didn't make the flight.

What you're describing is a different situation. When your luggage gets lost there is no other option but to get it on a plane without the owner! Happened to us recently.

Although disney is wrong for the late arrival time (I would never had accepted it), it is not their fault Delta had plane issues. I feel Delta should compensate somehow...

I disagree. Delta's only responsibility would be to get them to Orlando on the next flight....not to Boston and then put them up at a hotel! This is a Disney screw up for sure. They should never have booked or allowed the OP to book with such little time in between arrival in Orlando and sail away!

No updates from OP yet? I'm curious if Disney came through with some pixie dust while they were onboard. Sadly I've noticed the magic is not as it used to be so it'd be encouraging if OP has a different story to tell!

  1. Not an attorney but it seems to me that I have read of non disclosure agreements. If the OP was compensated in some real way for the days missed, perhaps such an agreement was signed? I don't mean pixie dust like a plush for the children but actual compensation. In that case, we may never hear. But it certainly sounds like they should have made it onboard in Boston. Hope they had a great cruise.

I truly hope you are having the best vacation ever after that horrific start!

Wellllll..... we did have 5 days of extremely rough seas crossing on this cruise. 25 foot seas, wind hitting us directly broadside at 45-50 kph (couldn't go out on the port side decks), and temperatures around 50 degrees (max).
