Fibromyalgia Thread

Well I have been excercising at least 30 mins every day since I posted. I have not been sore as a result of doing these excercises. I am doing some beginner yoga, running in place, stepping, and hula hooping and boxing!!

I am having so much fun. And I have lost 4 lbs this week. But I don't know if that is from excercising or the flu I have had.

Ohhh I hope this works and I can actually lose weight.

GO Bright! Good for you!

Hi everyone!

Kim, welcome! I just got on here a few weeks ago and it is wonderful! :welcome:

Well, it has definitely been a week... I quit my job. It was pretty unexpected (although things had been snowballing for awhile), things just started happening and the next thing I knew I was cleaning out my desk. Ultimately this is going to be a really good thing for my health, but it's a little stressful right now embarking on a job search.

Glad to hear everyone is having success with their Wii Fit! I love mine too and I'm trying to get into the swing of using it everyday. I can't say I've lost a lot of weight, but it feels good to get into a routine of exercising and eating better.

I went to the doc on Tuesday of this week b/c the numbness and tingling is back in my left side. She said she still felt okay about my brain MRI results but she wants me to go to a neuro to be on the safe side. It's a little scary but I feel like it is a good precaution even if the neuro says it's just a side effect of the meds like the doc thinks. In the meantime, my doctor took me off of my Savella and switched me to Prestique (sp??) to see if the side effects would go away. I haven't started it yet but I'm a little reluctant to give up my Savella since the fatigue has been so much better.

Anyway, I hope everyone is having a good week... or at least not a life-changing week!! Sending prayers and pixie dust to all :goodvibes

YEAH Brighteyes:cool1::cool1::cool1:

I was trying to use my Pilates machine again as my fatigue is down. I only managed one day this week :sad2: And no weight loss with meletonin ...yet. I'm in quite a bit of pain but I usually can manage to fight that off for a few hours anyway. I only got one day in because of all this snow we are shoveling. We have had snow for 10 days straight and we are looking at 2days more!! Luckily its the kind you can literaly broom away and not the wet stuff we had in New England. Then DH would be on his own. Our neighbor has come and plowed twice which was so nice because we have had nearly two feet of snow!
Kids home three out of 5 days this week and DH 4 out of five. So I have had them all since the wed before Christmas. Its been nice to see DH much more relaxed but I find myself longing for just one day by myself. DH managed to make it to work yesterday, worked from home today and wed and took mon-tue off just to be with me :lovestruc. Of course he got the kids more than he bargined since the other two days were late starts :rotfl2:. It is REALY COLD here below zero chils like most of the country. Are you cold too bright?

Kim I'm so glad you joined us. I think you will love it here.

Copy-pixie glad you can be so positive with such a big transition. I've had alot of numbness these past weeks with my migraines because of the weather. Try not to worry too much about the neurologist.

Eduke and Chell how was your trip? I'm so sorry you have had such frosty pixie dust this past week at WDW. Did you ever get to meet? I was telling DH I can't imagine Hawiian music, tiki torches and the cool 28 dgreee breeze at night...yikes!!!!! I think that calls for a bit more than the sweatshirts most guidbooks recomend for January. DH lived in Kissamee as a kid for two years and it snowed once. Eveyone freeked:rotfl:.

Sending pain free vibes :goodvibes and Pixie dust to allpixiedust:

Hi Guys!! I still don't know if my 4 lbs will stay off. I haven't eaten much the last few days, been tummy sick.

Copy - that is a big week!! Hopefully this will be a positive change for you. Sometimes, things happen in a strange way that really turn out to beneficial for us. I will throw pixie dust your way for a better job.

Tigg, Tonight I am really cold, it is going down to -16 tonight. High of -9 tomorrow BRRR> Can u say "how high can your thermostat go?? about 27 degrees!! I do not freeze in my house in winter. At night the heat goes down a lil cause I got my toasty heated blanket!!

Toocherie, have you recovered yet from New Year's?

Hope everyone is having a good day.

It was very, very cold for Florida! We had to wear two jackets the whole time! Sadly we didn't get to meet.

Last Saturday I started feeling nauseated while waiting for It's Tough To Be A Bug. I thought my claustrophobia was getting much worse. Turns out it was the start of a nasty virus. After the Wishes Dessert Party Saturday night we were rode BTMRR once and I wasn't feeling well at all so we went to the room. Then I didn't get out of the bed for more than a few minutes at a time until Tuesday about 2 PM.

Sunday morning the vomiting & diarrhea started. Once my husband woke up he went down to the front desk for help. Poor thing, he didn't know what to do being so far from home. Luckily I had Phenergan with me but it wasn't doing a lot. A doctor came to our room and gave me a shot that burned SO bad. It was something stronger than Phenergan. It worked. But it took me a while to recover. We took the rest of the week very slow. It was Wednesday before I ate a meal again.

This was the slowest trip I've ever had. We didn't do a lot but we enjoyed being on vacation. We slept in a lot.

Thursday morning my husband scheduled me a facial and manicure at the spa at the Dolphin to help me to relax and feel better after being sick. My skin was so dried out between being sick and the cold weather. It was a wonderful treat! He was going to get me a massage but I was afraid I was too tender to get one. I was afraid of them hurting me. On top of being tender from all the walking, but from being sick too I was super tender.

OOH That sucks that you were sick on your vacation! I'm glad the shot worked for you. What a nice husband to book the spa for you!!

Well I guess that since it's cold in Florida, I can be glad I'mnot there for once. But it is still warmer than it is here.

I hope everyone is feeling good today.

Have a magical day! :wizard:

Oh I'm so sorry that stinks!!!! :( I was so afraid that would happen to me we bought the trip insurance. My girlfriend had to use hers on her first trip to WDW in Sept08 and the week before we arrived another friend spent 4 of seven days sick with something similer to what you had. Before handsanitizer I literaly went on antibiotics every time I left the house. So I'm a bit of a germaphobe when we go out.Sounds like you have a great hubby :). Those of us with that kind of support are so lucky. Take care of yourself.

Hi everyone! I'm pretty newly diagnosed and really am untreated at this point. I was dx'd just before I was having 2 different surgeries.... I had #2 last month and am recovering (left total hip replacement) The hip is healing nicely but my symptom are out of control! I am so stiff in the morning- getting out of bed is excruciating.... takes about a half hour for this to lessen and be manageable. I have had a hard time distinguishing is the hip or Fibro? But I have decided it's Fibro.

What do you guys do to break up that morning stiffness? It also returns during the day........ if I sit very much (which I have to do to rest the hip).

Welcome mermaid02!!!!

Since everyone here reacts differently to medications you will probably get several different suggestions. I was put on more then 20 different meds my first two years and found the side effects and stress with meds was worse than FMS which is saying something!! I do the usual, heating pads, bengay, showers sometimes twice a day and a lot of just sucking it up :(. vicoden (only when nessesary as it stops working) ativan as a muscle relaxent(a few days at a time as it stops working) and flexerill in emergencies since it knocks me out for hours. I have found the suppliments magnesium for muscle pain, flax oil for energy, glucosimine, condriton with MSM for joint pain take the edge off unless I'm in a major flare or the weather changea quickly. moving and stretching as often as I can without overdoing helps too.

Funny I was really worried about our trip to wdw but because of the time of year we went and the great weather we had it was the best I had felt in nearly a year.I was able to take showers am/pm never walked/stood/sat for more than 5min at a time with dinner and a couple of shows being the exceptions and no stress. If only life worked that way maybe I could control this beast! That being said I crashed withing two weeks of comming home and am still trying to get my footing back. A sense of humor is really my best friend since everyday is an adventure!

Do you think living in a warm state is better?

Hot showers help get me going.

Hey Laura!

I would say yes and no to the warm state making things better. If I could find a state that stayed 75-80 degrees with low himididy and no hurricaines I would say yes. But once it gets really hot or humid I get much worse than in the winter. (We don't have AC). When all those energy folks say take 5min showers I just laugh. I can't survive without my 15-20 min hot shower at least once sometimes twice a day.I will recycle, and we hope to go solar sometime in the next 5 years but I will not give up my showers!LOL :)

Welcome Mermaid!

Well I may be out of the oridinary here. I do not find I am more stiff in the morning. If I wake up in the morning stiffer than normal, I will more than likely be like that or worse for the remainder of the day.

SOMETIMES, if I am like that in the am, it will wear off but usually takes at least 2 or 3 hours, but am limping by the time I get home anyways.

That said for stiffness whatever the time, hot showers and more hot showers, heating pads, and my latest love, :lovestruc my heated mattress pad. I am sweating buckets when I wake up, but am feeling better than I did when I go to bed.

If I sit at all, when I get up I am stiff and limping. I find it better to lay down than sit. In other words, I take up the whole couch and stretch my legs out so the stiffness is not as bad.

I am currently on Lyrica, and amitriptilyne for pain and the ami helps me sleep as well.

Hope that helps and pixie dust while you heal.

We bought the insurance too but I never thought of using it. I wasn't giving up my vacation.

Every time I fly I get sick so 2 days before we left I started antibiotics. So they kept me from getting a respiratory infection but didn't help with the stomach bug. My husband things the combo of the antibiotics and the 3 steroid shots I had before we left may have weakened my already low immune system enough to make it super easy for me to catch a bug.

I am very blessed to have such a great hubby. Sometimes he drives me nuts, but he loves me and takes such wonderful care of me. ;)

Welcome. Good luck finding what works for you. I've found that works for someone else doesn't work for everyone else. You have to learn by trial and error. One thing that helps me most during cold weather is an electric blanket. I keep it on a low setting at night. It keeps some of the stiffness away.

Chell,

I am sooooo sorry that you were sick for WDW. :sad1: What a bummer. Sounds like you guys made the best of it though, and I really hope you were able to enjoy just being in Disney princess:

Brighteyes,
Congrats on the great exercise and weight loss! :cheer2:

Welcome Mermaid02! You will love it here!

I have been completely out of my normal exercise and eating right plan the past few days... first the stress from being jobless then a major stomach bug the past few days. I think this is the first time I've had the stomach flu since dealing with Fibro and I definitely never knew it could hurt so incredibly bad. Fortunately I'm feeling a bit better tonight and hoping for a full recovery by morning so I can make it to my (now only) 2nd job.

I hope everyone has a magical week... pain free and full of pixie dust pixiedust:

Everyone on Lyrica, do you get your blood drawn to make sure the lyrica isnt hurting your liver?

They just took my friend off it because its so hard on your liver.

Has anyone ever tried turmeric (spice) or curcumin for inflamation?

Turmeric is widely used as a food coloring and gives Indian curry its distinctive flavor and yellow color. It is also used in mustard and to color butter and cheese. Turmeric has long been used in both Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine as an anti-inflammatory, to treat digestive and liver problems, skin diseases, and wounds. The curcumin in turmeric has been shown to stimulate the production of bile by the gallbladder. Curcumin is also a powerful antioxidant; antioxidants scavenge damaging particles in the body known as free radicals, which damage cell membranes, tamper with DNA, and even cause cell death. Antioxidants can neutralize free radicals and may reduce or even help prevent some of the damage they cause. In addition, curcumin reduces inflammation by lowering levels of two inflammatory enzymes (called COX-2 and LOX) in the body and stops platelets from clumping together to form blood clots.

Hello, all. I think I may have Fibro. I have thought this for a while. I was in a bad car accident in 1995 and have had RSD in my arm since then. I was 21 at the time. I have since developed RSD in my left arm. For the past couple of years I have just been hurting all over, especially between my shoulders and boths of my legs. My legs are so bad that if I hit a chair when I walk by, it makes me want to cry. It is kinda of like the same pain in my arms, but not as severe and not as much burning pain. I've already done a lot of the same meds that docs give fibro patients. None help the RSD or my leg pain. I am wondering if any of you fibro folks know anyone with RSD that has developed fibro. I have found that doing my own research yields much more information than trying to talk to a doctor.

Wow that double sucks preparing so you don't get the infection (respiratory was what i get too, with wicked sore throat) but you get the stomach bug because your immune system is down. Maybe avoid the steriods when you fly? I wont fly becuause when I first got sick I had heard alot of chatter about relaspes after flying. I'm so sentitive to baramtric pressue I figure it would trigger a major flare.

Thanks for the info:thumbsup2 I'll have to look at these more closely. Ginger root can be good for pain. the ginger plant is supposed to be part of the basic structure seen in celebrex.

Welcome Candice:welcome: Sorry I dont know anything about RSD. I do know how frustrating the whole process of FMS diagnosis can be. Docs just cant keep up with the stuff like we can.
