yep by all means if my kids wanted 2 ears of corn and we have them then go for it but they can not even eat a 1 whole one each . I was mostly pointing out that younger kids do eat less and thats usually why I can get under 10.00 a day but God help me when they all become teenagers .

Good afternoon :goodvibes

New schedule for us this week----ds14 is at marching band camp this week and next. Tuesday and Wednesday will be overnight---expect our food usage to be lower then :rotfl:

Breakfast

I made a peach crisp for breakfast: 8 huge peaches $2.67, one egg $0.08, dry goods approx $0.25
orange juice, 1/3 carton, $0.88
coffee etc $0.90

Lunch

Dh and ds both packed leftovers from yesterday----grilled chicken legs, homemade potato salad, homemade coleslaw. They also took individual packets of oreos, left from the care package sent to ds while at Boy Scout camp.
The girls and I had whole wheat tortillas $1.00/6, refried beans (we have to buy two different types, Ortega that I can get on sale for $0.50/can but which is contaminated with soybeans :sad2: , so I buy Old El Paso for dd12 which is almost never on sale $1.59/can!) $0.75, cheddar cheese $0.25, more peaches $1.00, water

Dinner

I'll make a frittata:
zucchini, tomatoes, herbs, onions, etc all from the garden
eggs, probably 10, $0.80
ham, from dairy dept markdown, $0.52/8 oz
parmesan cheese, grated from a hunk, guessing at 1oz over the top, $0.50

Not sure about snacks but I did score Minute Maid frozen lemonades for $1.00/box at the store today :woohoo:

Total today WITHOUT snacks:

$9.60 :upsidedow

Do you work in a food store where you can get really good discounts or something? This are really low prices.

My husband is a huge bread eater, he can eat 4-6 pieces of bread at dinner and he is not a big guy..Same way with milk, he can chug it and I really don't care for milk unless its chocolate:confused3

monday

Dinner Chuck wagon
Potatoes=75 cents
Cheddar cheese=169
Turkey bacon 2 slices=30 cents
Can of pinto beans=50 cents
Zucchini=0
Milk=65
=389

707 for the day... It really helps having your own garden (in my case the kids have there own)

Mommiepoppins, the chuck wagon sounds interesting. How do you make it - is it a skillet creation or more of an oven bake?

I do work at a grocery store, but I don't get discounts. :guilty: That would be really cool though.

There are two grocery stores I primarily shop at. One is the one I work at, which is where I spend about $20 a week. The other store is closer to my house, has slightly better sales more often then the store I work for, and I spend about $10 a week there.

I use coupons on almost everything I buy, with the exception of soda. I almost never get any coupons for soda. (Or obvious things like milk and fresh vegetables.) I also get fantastic deals on GM, like dish soap for 20 cents a bottle and "free" toothpaste.

Again, I don't get a discount, so anybody is eligible for these sales, and the only place I get coupons from are the Sunday paper, or coupons from the machines in the aisle.

The most I've ever spent in one week was about $50, when it was someone's birthday, so I spent $10 on a pound of beef, and another $10 on a cake. That with my regular shopping was a huge splurge for me.

Also I'm costing out my food. For instance the cereal. I paid $2 for the box, and I get ten servings from a box so I usually eat 20 cents worth of cereal a day. Today I ate more then usual so I figured 40 cents for the cereal, so that cost may be off by a few pennies either way.

But things like the drinks, the soda cost me 19 cents a can, I took what I paid for the 12-pack and divided it by twelve to figure out what each can cost me. Same thing with the Capri-Sun. There are ten pouches in a pack, the pack cost me 60 cents, so I paid six cents a pouch. Does that make sense?

Ok My kids would love it if I could get capri-suns for 60 cents a box . For that price I would send them with them to school every day .
I do get them for 3 for 5.00 and I sometimes have a coupon for 75 cents off 3 but not always .

Enjoy:)

Yup. I was more trying to figure out the Orange Chicken for $1. Maybe from a hot food bar?

I had bought a frozen bagged dinner, (Contessa) that included the rice, vegetables, chicken, and sauce for $1.99. Since I only ate half of it I only counted it as $1. When I eat the leftovers I'll "charge" myself another dollar.

Where in the world do you buy Capri Sun for 60 cents a box??:confused3
There was a sale, I believe it was 3/5 or something, and I had coupons. I usually get at least four of every coupon, since we get two Sunday papers at my house, the local one, and the bigger city one, my grandmother's since she doesn't bother with coupons, and another one from work. And if the coupons are really good I'll pick up an extra paper or two.
