February 2012 Car Rentals

According to FatWallet, that's a Car & Driver code; those are generally considered public.

Does anyone know anything about Avis car rental? I know it's in termal and one of the bigger companies so I'm REALLY HOPING it won't be a PITA to go through them. I bid on Priceline and got a mini-van with them for $152 for the week. I'm REALLY nervous that we're going to have to wait in line forever and the rental pick up and return will be a huge hassle. Someone please reassure me it will be ok!

Can someone help me understand why I would be able to rent a midsize car from National, MCO location for 266.00 with all taxes for Feb 15th- 28th, But if I look at my dates of Feb 20th-28th, it jumps up to 644.00 will all taxes. Less time & over double the cost. Does this make sense?

One of 2 things:
  • It's not quite close enough to the time for prices to drop. Early Feb prices have dropped pretty recently.
  • There just won't ever be any really low prices for that timeframe because it's Pres Week.

I also need those dates - Feb 22-28 and it is still really high. Prices seem to go up drastically starting with Feb 16 pickup, so there's still a chance that prices may go down within the next week. If they don't within that timeframe, I'd predict that they're going to stay high. I'm at $279 with Budget using BCD X474200 and coupon from ent book which will take $20 off that. This is for intermediate car booked last Nov and I haven't seen anything lower yet. Still hoping for a price drop soon!:goodvibes

I believe that the end of February Alamo descent has sloooowly begun!

My 5 day is down to $401. Still a ridiculous rate, but at least it is decreasing.

Try Expedia.ca and you can get a prepaid fullsize with Dollar for $161.87CAN inc taxes. US residents can book there as well.

Mini van with Alamo 2/11-2/21/12 Was $311-xx and now Down to $280.xx using BJs codes and coupon. For a few days Alamo had coupons blacked out, but it looks like the are taking them once again, or least they did in my case!

Be patient the prices will drop the closer you get to your travel date. My trip is next week and this past Monday by Alamo reservation dropped to $107 I just looked today and it has now dropped to $101. So there is hope that you will get a good deal when your trip gets closer. But keep in mind you are traveling during Presidents day week which is a busy busy week at Disney and the Daytona race is at the end of the week.

wow....sixt is unbelievable...there rate for my week is down to $30...really ..its a shame they r shuttle...i mean 79 for 10 days ...IM sort of thinking of it...i used autoslash.......2/10-2/20.....:goodvibes

We can't use it, but Alamo just sent an email with last minute rates until 2/14 for Orlando. There are some great rates. Check the last minute deals on their site.

Woo Hoo, just got it down again with Alamo from BJs website!

2/15 to 2/19 for 109 included fees and taxes!:thumbsup2

Well, I called Hertz to check on my reservation and the price went down $40!

But, they have me booked for an 8 seater SUV, but when I called the local place-they said they have 7 and 8 seaters and couldn't guarantee me it! All I can do is put preference on my res. :headache: Since I am traveling with 8 of us, this is imperative and I explained this at booking!

I kept the res and then found a 8 pass Toyota Sienna with National. According to the res. lady, it will be an 8 seater, but I'm calling the local place today to make sure they actually have that and not an unguaranteed mix of 7 and 8 seaters! I'm so frustrated, I never rent cars (rented a van once 10 years ago from a local place that has since closed ) and I can't show up to get it and be a seatbelt short ! The Sienna is like $130 cheaper than the SUV so I'd prefer it but I'll take anything with enough seats.

I can't speak to Hertz, but National will give you a passenger/baggage capacity for any car class you rent. They tend to be accurate.

With National or Alamo (same company), if you rent an 8 seater, that is what you will receive. They are in a different class than the 7 seaters.

Is there anything that I would need to show when picking up the car to book through Expedia.ca? I am close to the Canadian border but still an US citizen.

Thanks

Have you checked your Alamo reservation today? The rates have gone down again today. Mine is almost under $90 for a weekly rental of a mid size cool1:

If anyone is looking for a car for President's week I encourage you to check hotwire.com. Rates are alot lower than through the car rental agencies. I would definitely give Priceline a try. You can usually get the rate even lower than what hotwire has published.

Still waiting for my price drops. I hope they drop because I need the car now.

Same here, we're flying out in two weeks and Alamo still hasn't budged. Normally by this time they start beating everyone else's rates. I get a WONDERFUL rate using expedia.ca as suggested by another post, but I'm a little leery of booking through Canada when I live in the U.S. Has anyone else done this and been through their rental period already successfully?
