We are not actually IN Acadia, but we're very close. We camp at a great campground right outside the official realms of the park. It's on Somes sound on Mt. Desert island. It has bath houses that are small but clean, water to swim and go crabbin', and a nice, quiet, family atmosphere. We have gone there a few years in a row because it has all we need (running water, showers), but nothing we don't (pool, rec. room, crowds). It's about a 5 minute drive from the park gates, and the park shuttle busses actually stop at the campground so we can hop on there to hit the trails.
I love the feeling of reaching the top of a mountain and seeing the ocean and other peaks-just breathtaking!
What a small world that we know of the same places in NH! Have a great time camping! Don't forget to go the the Yankee Smokehouse! (The BEST BBQ! My MIL lives about 45 minutes from there, and we make the trip to eat there whenever we can. Yum!!)
