Lisa, I will be thinking about you, I will take snow anytime for tornadoes, those really scare me.......
It seems that you have a lot going on, I gave up trying to clean before we go, I don't think that it is going to happen, at least the house looks halfway decent, of course if we have mega snow, I might be stuck home, and I will have a chance to clean, I sure hope we all make it there on Saturday.

Lisa- How did you make out last night? It lloked awful on our weather for your area!
Chiristine-We are expecting ice and freezing rain along with the snow too.
I am going for a pedicure this AM. I hope I am looking at it on the ship Saturday

Now we are expecting 16-24 inches of snow, I think we will need to put skis on our van.
Next time any of you want to travel call Sue and I first, then pick a different date

Sue:

I made it okay. We were spared but New Orleans got hit AGAIN! The news has been on since 2 AM. The Carrollton area in N.O. was hit.

Vivian - how are you? Check in. When I first woke up, it looked like it was in your area.

Brace yourselves -- its gonna be nasty. When its this bad down here, it means it is going to be awful for you guys on the seaboard.

I just made a reservation at a hotel about 2 miles from the airport. I don't want to risk driving there in the AM-it usually takes only an hour, but in heavy snow could easily take 2 or 3. They have an airport shuttle, and we can leave our car there for $25 for the week. (I need to remember to put the shovel and boots in the car.) If they cancel the shuttle, at least we will be just 2 miles from the airport.
I just hope the airport doesn't close. Then I don't know what we'll do...
(deep breath...)

Its unbelievable that the people in that part of New Orleans have been devastated so many times since Katrina. I really feel for them.

So far, no deaths reported.

Vivian . . . . check in!

As awful as a blizzard can be, I would much rather deal with that than tornadoes and hurricanes. They are so much more destructive...
Vivian...how did you make out??

I am here. We are fine. We were in our bathroom at 3am though after the tornado sirens went off. My DH said he thought he heard that train sound outside, so he thinks it came fairly close to us.

Good luck to all Northeasteners traveling tomorrow!!

We're leaving on Friday so I think we'll be OK. We'll have to all have a drink at the Mickey's pool to celebrate making it out of the snow.

Anyone planning on next year yet? We're booked on RCCL Liberty of the Seas for April 19, 2008.

Mike, Sue, Brandon, and Rebecca

LIsa, and Vivian, I am so sorry, I cannot imagine what you must be going through, even if you are not directly hit, it certainly still has an impact on you.

Sue, what a great idea to stay at the hotel near the airport, at least you will be right there in the morning.

Vivian:

I'm glad you checked in. I wondered if possibly your electricity was out this morning. The radar was AWFUL in your area. I've never seen such dramatic fuscia colors in a cell before. I think we made out really well. I heard the news come on and that is what woke me up.

The damage in New Orleans isn't as bad as what was seen in Florida last week (so far) but it is still really bad. The Ponchartrain Park area I think looks worse thant he Carrollton area.

There is now one preliminary report of a death of an elderly lady but they can't get a second confirmation on it.

The interviews are heartwrenching. One woman's exterior walls are gone but all her interior walls are still there. She was crying and the emotions she was going through were quite evident. She just lost her mother on Saturday and now her home is devastated. Another pair of girls were inside a fema trailer and now the house that they were repairing is gone, the fema trailer damaged and their cars damaged. If I were these people, I would give up.

If this area ends up with a hurricane again this year, I really think you'll begin seeing a mass exodus of the remaining residents even in areas that previously had no hurricane damage.

I am praying that all of our disfriends in the eastern US make it through this weather system without anymore stress and are able to get to the ship on time (and to your other vacation destinations preceeding the cruise).

Keep in touch everyone!

I'll take snow and ice any day (except when flying out for vacation).

The devastation of tornadoes and hurricanes far out weigh our storms even the worst ice storm. Almost every year NYS declares a state of emergency over Ice Storms. Last year we had major flood damage and deaths in the southern tier region. But never repeated poundings like you get down south.

I'm sure we will be the double fisted drinkers at the 3 pm meet!

Good luck to everyone and please be safe!
Glory-Anne

Wow Lisa, I didn't even know that NO had bad weather. That's such a shame.

This is probably my last post since we leave at 6:50am. Luckily we're really close to the airport since DC is not great with snow. My only fear is that their inability to deal with snow will affect our flight, but I really hope not!

Have a safe trip everyone and we'll see you at 3pm on Saturday!

Have a great flight, how is the weather looking for you?

Lisa - thanks for the post yesterday about the potential for bad weather. If not for your post I would have not have known there was a chance for bad weather last night.

Well, now we have changed our flight time to 11:15AM--2.5 hours earlier. The only other flight has a layover in Baltimore, which they say looks bad tomorrow still. DH talked to folks at work who have gone through this same thing, and they unanimously said take the 11:15 because at least it's direct. I hope they are right  and we made the right decision. Hopefully we get out, but it still looks bad... At least we got the coveted "A" boarding pass:rotfl:

Glad to hear everyone down south is safe and sound.

I went for a pedicure today. I can't bear the thought of not wearing sandals next week, so I am not thinking that way...

I intend to be in Florida tomorrow sometime!!!!

..sorry to keep venting about something I have no control over... If I don't let it out this way, I will certainly crack up.

Christine-
When are you leaving?

The plan was to leave Wednesday after work, but if we do get 24 inches of snow that day we might neee sled dogs, so now we are not sure.
We will be thinking about you Sue, which airport do you leave from?
