Feb. Member Event at Doorway to Dreams (Updated p.11 with incentives)

Believe it or note the non DVC incentives aren't free for DVD. They have to pay for Fast Passes, APs and Cruses. Granted they get a discount, but they do have to transfer money to the other departments at Disney to cover the cost.

Yeah, of course, but whatever it costs DVC is equaled by the sale to Disney. So it's a wash, or close to it.

It looks to me as though DVC has a large amount of inventory coming on line, and many fewer people able to buy it.

Property values are WAY down in this country. Disney hotel room rates are way down (buy 4, get 3 free). The stock market is down 26% since Obama was elected, only 3 months ago. Why should DVC points be near an all-time high?

In a bad recession, prices for property and goods can go down A LOT.

But I guess we will see.

Even so, don't you think they still end up making $$ on the deal??? Think of the avg. amt. of $$ we all spend in the parks in a day.....not to mention dining, special events, etc. In comparison, the discounted AP they give out is cheap considering the $$ the attendance alone will bring into the park in a given day.

Sure they make money on the deal, if they didn't, they wouldn't be in the business for long.

It's true that all of the money belongs to Disney, but every department is treated as a separate group or company. They have to beg for money to operate and promise that they will make x amount of profit this year. When they don't meet projections, they are forced to reduce costs to make up for it.

I took a business law class in 1996. The instructor was a lawyer who worked for Disney in some context, she states that she hobnobbed with the CEO at the time. She told us that the parks (at that time) broke even on the ticket price in terms of paying for all the parks attractions and operations.

The actual income came from food, souvenirs and all other extras you would pay for (tours, special events, etc.).

So, I guess if the economy is down, people are probably going on shorter trips and spending a lot less on the extras.

I know for us, we never pay full price for souvenirs, we usually buy them at the Disney outlet. Times are tough now, we are only going on a 3-night DVC vacation instead of our usual 4-6 nights.

well, i guess the bottom line is: disney tries to do different incentives that they think will get people to buy or add onto. when we bought in last august, we thought the incentives were good for us, someone else might have not thought that. everyone has there own opinion on what is a good incentive:)

I completely agree that everyone has their own opinion about what is a good incentive. However, I think most of us bought DVC b/c we enjoy Disney. Do you mind telling if your Aug. incentive was matching pts. with the option to use at SSR or DLR?.....or another Disney based incentive? My opinion is that when we bought, we were told not to factor in timeshare partnerships into the equation b/c those are not guaranteed. We didn't factor those in and they are certainly not a "hot button" for us with our DVC. With the cruise, first we were not thrilled with the dates offered but even worse, you have to take your chances on which cruise you'll get....no way to "hold" a date until your closing. With the RCI 7 nts., there is very limited availability. I'm also really turned off in a way with this RCI big push lately. When our family is spending $ on vacation, we want to know we can travel when we want to, and stay where we want to. Whatever they may be, I think Disney based incentives are what motivate most of us. If not AP's, why not matching pts. to use at WDW or DLR (I don't care what resort). I have to think that with the economy in such decline, better incentives will come along, if not an additional price per pt. discount. If not, nothing lost for us. :)

We purchased 100 points to AKK at $104 per point with a $8 per point discount, making it $96 per point. We didn't get any developer points b/c we only did 100 points, but did get some small items from DWTD directly: $50 amex gift card and 4 passes to legoland ($80 value). We financed thru disney and our downpayment was only $300 + closing costs of $260 something (can't remember the exact closing cost #). So to us, those were all great, to someone else, maybe not so great. They did have other incentives if we were to purchase 160, but we didn't want to take that big of a plunge. So we are extremely happy:) Oh and we received our 100 points for 2008.

Thanksgiving week is available for the cruise? I thought those weeks were blacked out.

...

The chart we were showed by CM had that wk available for the 4 day, now if that changes I will be mucho dissapointed.

...

My CM had emailed me the list of dates - 11/25/09 is listed as available for the 4 day cruise. It (Thanksgiving week, leaving 11/29/09) is not available for the 7 day but the 11/28/09 date is available. I am surprised that date is there - I hadn't noticed it as we were looking at 7-day dates.

We went to the event on Sunday, but didn't add on at the time. Not that we didn't want to...it just isn't in the cards for us right now.

We didn't have a chance to go through the models on Sunday, but we were at the mall today and we stopped in to tour. The person there said there are still guides in from FL if we wanted to talk and that they are still offering the same incentives as this weekend.

If only, I had the extra cash to purchase right now......:rolleyes1

That is good for people still "on the fence". They must have changed it from what we were told Saturday by our guide.

anyone have the 2010 cruise dates available from the weekend, I am waiting for the email

We just received an email from our guide at DWTD, thanking us for coming to the event Saturday and asking if we had a good time. Anyone else receive something similar?

Nope! Although we haven't ever heard much from our guide. We did have fun though and the kids had a great time especially our dd(6). Our dd (12) made us promise though if we ever go again that she wouldn't get stuck with all the little kids. She'd rather sit and get the freebies with us! :rotfl:
