Fat Girls Walking Club

Annette,

I did get married at WDW in March of 2007 (wedding pavilion and reception at the Living Seas and Dessert Reception at France Lower)

The pain in my foot is different than led foot. It is actually like a bone on bone feeling. I know it is probably just from running becuase I haven't done it in SOOOO long!! At least I have jump start on diagnosing my injuries becuase I work at a Physical Therapy Clinic and am going to be going to school next year to become a Physical Therapy Assistant.

Hey everyone!!

I went out walking last night but my feet hurt! I tried to run a bit but the feet were just not having it. It looks like I have to start cross training a bit.

What shoes are you wearing? Make sure you are wearing the right kind of shoe for your foot type. If you have running shoe store like playmakers(East Lansing-playmakers.com) in your area i would suggest visiting it. Don't just buy them because there cute or they fit (buying larger to accommodate the width) I know someone who does that. You may want to also visit a podiatrist for custom made inserts that alleviate any misaligned bones rather than surgical correction. This ends my PSA from working in a podiatry office since 1989.

You may also be over training and need to incorporate cross training in your workout

Amanda

Yeah I did get my shoes fit by Gazelle Sorts (local footwear store that ROCKS).

I think I just over-trained a bit. I'll just have to use the bike/elliptical at work instead of pounding the pavement!

Thanks Amanda!

I'm glad you didn't pull an Annette and buy just because there cute. Her running shoes are the only ones that are the perfect fit and good for her to wear.

I've heard of Gazelle. Don't they have a race circuit like playmakers? I love my elliptical in the winter when i get feed up with walking in snow and really into training .

Hello girls!
I am definitely one of the fat girls!
:rotfl2:

I am also doing the EE5K in just matter of weeks.
For now I am on about 18 min miles walking fast, I actually managed to shave it down to 17 min yesterday... but then disaster struck in the shape of... dun dun duuuun, shin splints. UGH!!! They hurt so bad I actually cried.

Still I am not disheartened, I can totally do a 5K in 1hr, did so on Sunday, so I am sure I can finish it all and shave some more time. I have properly fitted shoes, and I am now doing toe raises to combat those nasty splints, :headache:

I want that medal sooo badly!!!
I am doing at least 65 laps today at the pool instead of running so my legs can rest and then back on the recumbent bike until Sat, when I'll try my hand at another 5K.

Glad to know I am not alone!!!

First of all:

Welcome ChcoKat!! As I keep saying: the more the merrier.

So, some how I have watched "Meet the Robinsons" a few times this week. The phrase "keep moving forward" seems to be stuck in my head. It has become my new mantra. What do you girls think?

I made a list of EE girls:
Amanda (acourtwdw2)
Annette (acourtwdw)
Lynnda (crzy4pooh)
Joy (joymouse)
Chcokat

It would be great to meet up at the race. How about it?

It's raining here and I'm waiting for my dinner to settle a little more before going for a run/walk.

Have a great night everyone and KEEP MOVING FORWARD

Hi, I'm new to the WISH forums, though I've been on the DIS quite a while. A friend of mine just ran the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon and wants me to come out to WDW to cheer him on in the Goofy's Challenge. All that got me to thinking that I could surely do something as short as a 5K (particularly since even kids do the 5K!). So, today I signed up for the Circle of Life 5K in January.

When discussing running in the past, my catchphrase has always been "I don't run, unless someone's chasing me with an axe." But, here I am, about to embark upon learning to run. I'm starting tonight at my regular gym visit with a program I linked to from the 5K site. I usually do 30 minutes on the elliptical, a bit of speed rowing, followed by 30 minutes quick walking on the treadmill. So, I'll now move into training by doing the treadmill 3 minutes walking and 1 minute running for 5 or 6 repetitions. Then, I'll move on to the rower and elliptical, if I can stand it. I have no idea if I even know how to run! :scared:

I've got a compromised right ankle from a pretty bad sprain over a year ago, I expect that my knees will hurt and I have a small bit of an annoying sciatic nerve that likes to kick up now and then. So, we'll see how everything holds out for training. But, that's why I'm going to go with this pre-set program and take it slow and easy. In about 10 weeks, I should be up to running the full 5K. Maybe...

Wish me luck on this venture. I think I'm going to need it! Looking forward to following along with everyone else's training in this thread and, maybe, seeing a few of you out at the 5K, come January. :)

Welcome aboard Magix!!

I had the exact same concept of running that you used to have....until a month ago. I need to shape up and running is the least expensive/most effective way that I have researched!

I'm not going to be doing any official racing soon (I plan on the 1/2 marathon in 2010)

I just finished a short run/walk tonight in between rain showers. I did get sprinklied on at the very end, but then it felt GREAT! I did 1/5 miles in 20 minutes. I'm pretty happy with that and hope to get back up to 2 miles this weekend. My knees are sore but I'm dealing with it! if they get much worse I'll start cross-training.

Have a good night everyone!

Welcome Magix!!

I love running/walking. I'm what you would call atlethically challanged. I don't possess any hand/eye coordination at all. So anything like softball (or any other sport) was always a struggle for me. So, walking/running is the perfect sport for me. I have a long way to go, that is why it is great to have all you to support me and each other.

Nikki,
How were the feet tonight? Better I hope.

Annette :)

I'd be all up for it, that way we can keep cheering each other on until the end. There is nothing like having people that share your struggles and know that no, you are not going slow because you are being lazy :rotfl: , but that you are actually doing your very best.
:flower3:

Anette,

The feet were great last night. I spent some extra time on Wed and Thursday just massaging them. The issue yesterday was my knees! At least the pain keeps moving! Hopefully it will work its way up and out of my head in no time! I iced them good last night and they feel normal this morning!

Yeah!

Keep on moving!!!

Nikki,

You should get your hubby to do the massaging :) Make sure that you don't over do it. Listen to your body, it will tell you what you need to do.

Choco,
We have to figure out a way to meet up. More on that as we get closer.

Keep Moving Forward!

Annette :)

Ah I did my swimming yesterday, it was great, we had underwater music thanks to the synchronized swimming team, and it was... The Pirates of the Caribbean Soundtrack! :rotfl: Talk about motivating! :woohoo:

My shins are still so so, so I'll do the recumbent bike today instead of walking or running.

And yes, definitely, Keep Moving Forward!!

I did my first training workout last night and it went surprisingly well. I realized, while changing, that I was actually getting nervous about trying to run and had to calm myself down. When I actually did it, it was just fine. I did a walking pace that was a 17:38 mile for 3 minutes, then a running pace at a 12:someodd mile for 1 minute, 6 reps. Did a quick walking warmup and cooldown for 5 minutes on either side of that. It definitely helps that I've been hitting the gym for 7 months already and have been doing 30 minute treadmill walks. I stretched a bit afterward, but couldn't get on the rower, since they were both taken. So, I did 15 minutes on the elliptical, which is less than my normal time on that, but I was afraid of overdoing it. Stretched a bit again, and that was that. I really need to learn some proper stretches, though, because I was just faking my way through it last night.

Had some annoying pain (not bad, just annoying) in the top of my feet and up through my ankles to the very bottom of my leg last night, but I feel terrific today.

I'm already looking into some pre-WDW events. There's a 1 mile rubber boot run (some kind of silly Guiness Record attempt) in October and a 5K in November that I might do. The 5K would be right at the end of my training program, so it would be timed just perfectly.

You know, this might actually be possible. Next workout should be tomorrow.

Great job Magix!!

I did 2 miles in 34 minutes today. I was so excited. I need to learn to start out slower. I just want to jump right in without pacing myself.

Have a great night and Keep Moving Forward!

Hey everyone! :wave2:

Sorry I don't post on a consistant basis. I just don't have the time. But know that you are all on my mind. :goodvibes

Why is it so hard? It's like every single day I have to make a concious decision to fight this fat. I guess I haven't fully accepted and committed to the hard work it's going to take to get rid of it again.

I joined the YMCA (a huge accomplishment for me!) and have actually been going. Yesterday I did run(waddle) 2/walk 3 intervals for 40mins! That was a big improvement. :thumbsup2 I'm going to try it again tomorrow.

I don't know about you guys, but I've found that RUNNING MAKES ME SMILE! I look like such a goofball bouncing along on the treadmill with a big smile on my face.

Now for the full confession: I'm doing better in the exercise department, but my eating habits still stink. I CRAVE fast food. I know it's literally killing me and my family but I can't seem to stop. You guys have any suggestions I could try? I mean it's kind of stupid to spend 45 minutes on the treadmill and then eat a burger on the way home. And this is an everyday thing. I don't know what to do. I'm to the point I want to ask my doctor if I need some kind of counseling or something. It's completely out of control. I've even noticed within the last week when I get near the end of my meal I start to feel sad because I know that it will soon be gone. I feel like I'm going crazy! :confused3 You guys have any suggestions???

Be blessed!

Dena

Great job at joining the YMCA!!!

As for the fast food issue. The one thing that I found helps me is if I plan ahead. For a long time I would sit down on Sunday and Plan out my meals for the week. Then I would go shopping to buy only the items I needed for the week. I used kraftfoods.com to find recipes. they have a neat feature that lets you add the recipes to your "shopping List" this way once I had my 6 meals for the week I could then just edit and print out the shopping list. It made my shopping go that much faster and helped me budget!

Another thing I do is I throw a banana, granola bar or healthy snack into my gym bag. This way I don't stop at fast food on the way home because I have my snack to eat in the car to tide me over until I can get home!

Hopefully some of those tips will work for you!

Magix- I'll work on finding some good basic stretches for you! The main thing is that you get each muscle group stretched in at least you lower body!

I'm going over to Detroit today to visit some friends and the Zoo so I probably won't be back on until tomorrow night or Monday.

Have a good weekend everyone and just keep on turckin' (a saying my dad uses to keep himself going).

The YMCA is wonderful!
I have been thinking of re-joining. I stopped my membership when we moved to a new apartment that had its own gym with weight room and all, bad move! I became sooo lazy!!!

I lost 60 whole pounds going to the YMCA, that place rocks.

About fast food, I just remember how difficult it was to finish my work out and blame it on the fries, burgers, etc I have eaten through the years, I also drink lots and lots of water when I start getting peckish, sometimes I am not hungry, I am just thirsty, isn't that weird?

You guys are doing great! I am still walking, but my eating habits are nothing to write home about! I was able to do a 14 minute mile (just one) on a treadmill. It made me think that I just might be able to do the EEC in the alloted time! There is hope yet.:cool1: Hang in there, we are getting healthier, if not skinnier!

I am so happy that we found each other and I'm not the only who struggles.

I have to admit that I too eat fast food. I only eat kids meals though. That way I get what it is that I'm craving and not eating the Baconantor (over 1000 calories in just that Wendy's sandwich). Sometimes if you don't feed that craving, it will only get worse. Then you will eat more, feel bad about that then continue to eat more. It's really about portion control. That is why I love the 100 calorie snack packs.

Just keep moving forward.

Annette :yay:
