Fat Girls Walking Club

I also took advantage of the good weather. Went 3.1 miles today it took forever. I was dragging 2 teenage girls along. But it felt good to be outside walking. Only 23 days until the race. Im so excited.

Wasn't the weather in the Mid-West great yesterday!!

I went outside to a local trail and it was jammed packed!! I loved it!

I'm having a bit of a shin-splint issue with transferring from running on the TM to running outside. I took it slow yesterday and did 40minutes, mostly walking but with a few running intervals. I'll be back inside on the TM today and hopefully that will help calm the shins down!


Great job yesterday ladies!! Lets keep moving!

Nikki I hate the shin splints! are you doing warm ups and cool downs? I know I hate doing them, they are boring, and seem to be a waste of time - until you get that achy pullin - - hope you are taking advil and using ice!!

Trying to get the courage to go to a gym - rainy rainy day...

I have been warming-up, cooling down, and stretching. I think the shin splints are just my muscles going in shock from the TM to road running.

I'm also doing ice massage on them. It is nice working in a Physical Therapy clinic! Everyone has all of these tricks, tips, and ideas! They feel much better today. I took my outside run yesterday and flipped my intervals. I ran 3 and walked 5. That seemed to help a lot!

I'm going to do some corss training tonight and ride the bike, or do the elliptical.

I bit the bullet and went to Bally's Fitness gym (if you go to Discovery Health they are combing with Ballys for a 30 day trial - free !1 no strings!! it runs until March 8 tho!) Better late than never!

I got in 1 mile on the TM and 10 min on the eliptical - so I did my sweating!! Then I did a bunch of weights for 25 min... nice and slow only 8 reps 2times and low weights - just to reintroduce my body to the machines - I dont want to overdo...
 
Great work, ladies! Sounds like everyone is doing well!

I'm back to the gym on my old schedule of 2 nights per week with a weekend day swim (if I can fit it in, which I haven't lately). I've started going over to another 24 hr Fitness location on Wednesdays, which is very new and MUCH less crowded. It's so nice with all the brand new equipment, super clean locker rooms... Might make the workout a little more pleasant. It's just nice to be able to get on the cardio equipment without a wait. My Monday gym (where I've been going for my trainer appointments for a year now) is much bigger and absolutely packed with people. I better keep quiet about this other location!
 
Just signed back up to the gym and will be doing walking for cardio and weight lifting for training.
 
Last night I did a bit of cross training to help with the shins!

I did 15 minutes on the elliptical first and then I did 15 minutes on the treadmill. My shins are feeling much better and I've been icing them often. (as we speak actually)

I am going to take today off and just to do some Wii Fit tonight. Its funny but I've exercises for 4 days in a row which is a record for me!

4 days in a row... I think that's a GREAT CHALLENGE!!

I was going to take today off ( I did 2 days in a row!) but I guess I'll move my rear and head back to the gym! Altho my under arms are sore (I did a rowing movement with weights) everything else is A-OK!

How the heck do those on Biggest Loser do it? man - its great to have a trainer yelling at you - or its just becomes too easy to 'wait till tomorrow' (or insert an excuse here ______________ )
 
Wow. Sounds like the spring-like weather has helped us all out with our ambitions. I'm still plugging along and getting to my goal one step at a time. I agree that the nice weather has helped me out as well. This morning I actually got to walk for 1 hr. and I feel great.

For the princess walkers our bib numbers are now available. Check out the website. There was also a newsletter today. Im bib #1138. Are we doing a meet before the race?

Daughters and I are bib #'s 115, 116, and 117. We will have 2 little princesses (well, one princess and one pirate wannabe) in their strollers.
I'm up for a meeting. I would need to confer with the rest of my herd, but would really like to meet everyone.

Annette and I are coming in on Wednesday night and staying at the Beach Club. Do we want to have the meet before the race maybe a Friday Morning Walk on the boardwalk to keep our juices flowing for Saturday Morning.

We are arriving late Thursday evening :banana: and staying at Boardwalk Villas. A Friday morning walk :cool1: sounds nice and would work well for me.
I can't wait; it is so close now. :yay:
I'm still working hard on getting my time within the limits. :scared:
 
Ok lets plan on that then. Im going to run tomorrow and see how i do without the teenagers dragging along. I know we can all do this even if we have to pull each other along:dance3:

I've thought about the January 1/2 but don't want to train in the winter. I"m thinking of doing a different 1/2 next year, but it also depends on what works with my PTA school schedule.

Great we should just let me know what time will work for everyone we are going to the expo that am.

Is anyone doing the Half Marathon in Jan '10?
Annette and I have talked about doing the half or the full next year. I am hoping to do either the detroit or grand rapids half in the fall. We also have a local one im thinking about.
