Nikki and grs, you're doing great, girls!! Keep it up!!!
I did have a great time at WDW. Actually, the second week of my trip, visiting friends in Tampa, a couple days at Universal and then some relaxing time at WDW was the best part. The first week, with the 5K and my friend's Goofy runs, was pretty rough. I was very happy that I'd managed to shave 30 seconds off my time at that event. My friend did finish both his Goofy races and got the 3 medals, which he wore proudly the rest of the week. He didn't seem too happy with his time in the full, though. Mind you, this guy had literally not trained at all. Not at all. And yet, he couldn't believe that no one thought he'd be able to finish. Fantastic self esteem (or delusion) is really an asset.
Spending 24 hours a day for 7 days with this friend really gave me a chance to learn an awful lot about him. We had a chocloate canoe in our room when we arrived. Decent sized thing, all made of chocolate with 3 boutique-style chocolates inside it. I was hoping to have a bit of it the afternoon after my race. But, after I got up at 4:00am that morning to take a shower (which was a fiasco, in that our room only had boiling hot water and I had to have the front desk give me another room to shower in), I discovered that while I showered, my friend ate 99% of the canoe!! He left me a tiny bit of a side panel and one of the boutique chocolates, that's all. He ate all that chocolate at 4:00 am!! OMG!!! Yeah, so, that kind of thing kept up all week, plus he was pretty horrible to his parents who had come down from NY to watch him run. I did mention to him that he should take it a bit easier on them. It really disturbed me to see his behavior so clearly. Oh yeah, he also stole a mug from the table at Rainforest. Who does that??!?
So, my alone time was great. Enjoyed my race. Just wish we'd had official timing. They didn't have any characters along the way, either. They had Timon and Zazu (IIRC) at the start, but that was about it. There were some cast members out here and there to cheer us on, which was nice of them.
Anyway, my 3rd (and possibly final) 5K is this Sunday morning in Huntington Beach. We'll be running along PCH. I realized this will be the most difficult race, because it's just a straight shot, up and back. No twists or turns to the course to distract from how far I have left to run. Ugh! But, I'll get a nifty surfboard-shaped medal for finishing and that's the whole reason I signed up for this one. Wish me luck!! We'll see if I can take another 30 seconds off my time. At least this one is timed!
