Fat Girls Walking Club

Great job Nikki. Keep up the good work.
I had some set backs but am now back on track. Yesterday, I finally got back to the point where I did 3 miles in 48 minutes. YEAH. I feel I can not DO the 5K successfully. I can do this. I can do this. This is my mantra for the upcoming weeks. I'll see you there.

Nikki and grs, you're doing great, girls!! Keep it up!!!

I did have a great time at WDW. Actually, the second week of my trip, visiting friends in Tampa, a couple days at Universal and then some relaxing time at WDW was the best part. The first week, with the 5K and my friend's Goofy runs, was pretty rough. I was very happy that I'd managed to shave 30 seconds off my time at that event. My friend did finish both his Goofy races and got the 3 medals, which he wore proudly the rest of the week. He didn't seem too happy with his time in the full, though. Mind you, this guy had literally not trained at all. Not at all. And yet, he couldn't believe that no one thought he'd be able to finish. Fantastic self esteem (or delusion) is really an asset.

Spending 24 hours a day for 7 days with this friend really gave me a chance to learn an awful lot about him. We had a chocloate canoe in our room when we arrived. Decent sized thing, all made of chocolate with 3 boutique-style chocolates inside it. I was hoping to have a bit of it the afternoon after my race. But, after I got up at 4:00am that morning to take a shower (which was a fiasco, in that our room only had boiling hot water and I had to have the front desk give me another room to shower in), I discovered that while I showered, my friend ate 99% of the canoe!! He left me a tiny bit of a side panel and one of the boutique chocolates, that's all. He ate all that chocolate at 4:00 am!! OMG!!! Yeah, so, that kind of thing kept up all week, plus he was pretty horrible to his parents who had come down from NY to watch him run. I did mention to him that he should take it a bit easier on them. It really disturbed me to see his behavior so clearly. Oh yeah, he also stole a mug from the table at Rainforest. Who does that??!?

So, my alone time was great. Enjoyed my race. Just wish we'd had official timing. They didn't have any characters along the way, either. They had Timon and Zazu (IIRC) at the start, but that was about it. There were some cast members out here and there to cheer us on, which was nice of them.

Anyway, my 3rd (and possibly final) 5K is this Sunday morning in Huntington Beach. We'll be running along PCH. I realized this will be the most difficult race, because it's just a straight shot, up and back. No twists or turns to the course to distract from how far I have left to run. Ugh! But, I'll get a nifty surfboard-shaped medal for finishing and that's the whole reason I signed up for this one. Wish me luck!! We'll see if I can take another 30 seconds off my time. At least this one is timed!

I know that you can do it!!! Amanda and I will be there with you. We can "push" each other.

I can't wait for the weather to get better. Indoor workouts bore me to tears. I just want to walk outside! In the sunshine! Fresh air!

Annette :)

Thanks for that update Magix. Good luck with your Sunday race.

Annette, thank your for your encouraging words. It means a lot. I'm glad to know that we can "push" one another along the way and make it to the finish successfully.
Again, my mantra, I can do this, I can do this. And I agree, I can't wait to walk outside in the fresh air. TM has been helping me keep on track; so for that I can be grateful.

Girls,

Your stories and inspiration are just what I need.

I'm on week 4 of the C2 5K program and am having trouble. It requires that you run for 5 minutes which is my problem area. I can make it 4 or 4.5 mintues but not the full 5.

I'm debating repeating week 4 before moving on but this will put me a bit behind schedule.....

I'll have to think about what to do. Any suggestions?

Keep on moving! March will be here for us "Princesses" before we know it!

Hi Nikki,
I think a big part of training and working out is "mindset." For me, trying to go with small successes works best. I would do the 4.5 and feel could; then creep up a bit to 4.75 and then to 5. I know what you mean about the running. I have a really difficult time with that as well. I just keep inching along with the smaller progressions; and feeling good about the small accomplishments. I know I can get "bummed" very easily so I try to stay away from that space. Let me tell you that being here on the boards and sharing with everyone has been so helpful to me. (Thanks Annette and Amanda) I will keep saying, I can do this, I can do this. We will all be winning princesses come March.
I hope this helps.

Nikki,

Just keep going! I know that you can do it. Just don't go back, keep moving forward!!! You will break through that wall in no time! :cheer2:

I know that during my training, every time I had to increase my run time, I thought there was no way I could do it and I set myself to be able to stop early (or walk a little longer than I should before starting) without feeling too bad about it. Most of the time, I did manage to muscle through the full run time, but it was a definite struggle. But, each time I did it, it got a tiny bit easier.

Even after hurting my knees, I was very surprised that I was able to do my full 5K, in the required WDW pacing, by combining fast walking and 5 minute runs. The walks give me a chance to catch my breath after running and I'm able to get through the whole thing.

Hang in there, girls. You'll find what works for you and you'll be able to do this!!

I DID IT!!

I finally got through week 4's workout!!

I ran the entire time for both of the 5minute stretches!! I slowed my pace down to (5.0 on the treadmill instead of 5.5) and was able to get it done!!

I think tomorrow I'll do week 4 one more time just for good measure and them move onto week 5!!

Thank you for all of your support ladies!

Thank you so much for all of the support!

I'm going to do week 4 again tonight.

I think week 5 looks a bit easier. I get to run for 5 minutes three times but the walking recovery period is for 3 minutes instead of 90seconds like it has been this week.

Keep moving everyone!

I didn't much feel like doing the TM last night but pushed myself to do so anyway. I am so glad I did. :cheer2: It was my best walk/run time ever.:cool1: Now I know, I can do this. ::yes:: ::yes::

Great job Gretchen!

I did not do my run last night, becuase my husband actually asked me out on a date!!!

I did get up early this morning and get it out of the way though! I was feeling good so I did week 5's workout. It went great! It was easier than week 4!!!

I walked 5 ran 5 walked 3 ran 5 walked 3 ran 5 walked 4!!!! I got 2 miles done in 30 minuets so that is the 5K pace!

Keep up the good work ladies!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Way to go Nikki.
Keep it up.
It must have been so nice to have your date night. Just think of the celebration you will have when you return home with the 5k medal!!:)
It's February.....Just a few more weeks to go.;)

another "lurker" wanting to join - so I tried to read a few of the pages along the way!!

Way to go Nikki.
We knew you could do it!!!

Just wanted to say hi :wave2:

WOW!!! :thumbsup2 I think the fastest I ever had the treadmill was 4.8!! I'm VERY impressed!!

I cant believe the chocolate canoe was eaten and not by you - :faint:

Hope you are having an AWESOME day!! pixiedust:

A bit about me - I ran the 2008 Half Marathon - ok there was no "running" involved - wogging, and mainly barely walking is much more accurate... :goodvibes
I didnt get an "official finish" but i didnt get swept - thanks to an "angel" and the WISH Scream Team - (see my TR esp about the Procrastination is over - pic of me there!)

So, due to a whole lot of stress we cant control (our ds in hospital 5 days, and seeking further treatment - dont ask - just pray! Miracles are happening! pixiedust: ) The patient advocate told us to do something for "us"

DH says - Marathon -10 - - its the only way I'll move it... and I'm way heavier now than then... sad that. But today is a new day - in '07 I started the C25K and ran 2 5K's (ok so no running is ever involved) and a 10K so I know I CAN...

I tried to sign up for a team here at WISH - but not exercising had me hang my head in shame - I just cant do that again - - too many times I give up. But I start - maybe more than most people... this I need!!

so I hope I can join y'all in the journey - I do like to "chat" (much more than moving!!) I hope to do some indoor work - mall walking perhaps... :coffee: Its hard moving when its so gosh dern cold here in the Chicago area!

Sandy,

It is great to have you here!!

It sounds like you've had quite the struggles!

We are all here to support each other!! I like the new term "wogging" I'll have to use that more often!

I'm also thinking about doing the 1/2 in 2010 but I want to get through my first Disney race before committing to another. Also we are supposed to cruise in May of 2010 so I"ll have to look at the finances too.

Just keep moving! That is our motto here! You can do it girl!:cheer2:

Hi Sandy.:wave2:
Welcome.
I understand how difficult it is at times to keep it going. But you can do it.
You will find that we can be quite supportive and it is good to chat with those who know from whence we come. I, myself, struggle to stay on tract but found that being here has helped me tremendously.:grouphug:
Wishing you the best on your journey,

Thanks Gretchen and Nikki -

I went to the mall and did at least 1 mile (I'm not sure if the pedometer was working it said 1.92 but I was only there for 30 minutes or so) I plan to double it tomorrow... I have easy excuses, my ipod didnt work, I didnt know if the pedometer was working, forgot my phone, so wasnt sure of the time - I
'm a mess, but I started!!
