Family Dog Attacked- UPDATE Post 67 WITH (Graphic) PICTURES!

dang! after all this time, I thought he was in the clear.

I'll keep good thoughts for Schnitzel.

Poor doggie. I am hoping he will get better and be back to normal soon. Sorry to hear about his turn for the worse.

I talked to my parenst today- he's not out of the woods yet but is doing a bit better. They are doing tests to figure out what caused it. I would honestly not be surprised if it was something he ate.

My grad classes end tomorrow for the summer  so we are meeting my cousin and her kids at Worlds of Fun on Saturday. I'm sad because my two puppies were going to get to come home with me this weekend, but now I have to board them again. I figured that it would not be good to have them around, they are just too energetic to be around Schnitzel while he isn't feeling well.

The vet still hasn't given us much of a prognosis, although it sounds hopeful. I'm hoping to hear more by the end of today or beginning tomorrow.

That is great news!! I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers!! Give that pup a big kiss for me this weekend!!:goodvibes

He's still at the vet, perhaps tomorrow he'll get to come home. They think that maybe he ate too much bird seed. My mom is really into gardening and birdwatching, and we have several feeders in the backyard including a table for birds like doves and grackles that Schnitzel can easily reach. Not to mention the amount of seed that spills from the feeder. My parents cleaned up the bird seed tonigh and are looking into some cheap fencing options like chicken wire to surround the feeders and table so that he can't get into the seed. In the meantime, he isn't going to be allowed to wander the backyard.

So hopefully tomorrow he'll come home. I would say that now he know not to eat bird seed, but let's face it, they're not the smartest animals in the world, are they? We love him anyway ;)

He's still at the vet :(. Maybe tomorrow he'll get to come home as long as there is no more blood in his stool.

I stopped by to see him as I came into town. He has a couple of IVs in and one of those hard plastic cones. Other than that (and the shaved area and staples from the attack) he looked really good. He was bouncing around the cage and wagging his tail, and barking at me to take him home. It about broke my heart to leave him there :(.

A piece of good news: Not only did they get rid of the dog, they tore down the pen! We're hoping that this means they will not get another dog.

Schnitzel came home yesterday and he looks great! (Well, his energy is up anyway. He still looks like a frankendoggy). I finally have some pics of my poor frankenpuppy to post:

The white thing sticking out is a drain.

It was impossible to get him to sit still for a picture- a good thing!

OMG...those pictures. Words almost fail me. It's a miracle that your beloved family-pet is still alive. Glad to hear Schnitzel is doing better.

Here's to a complete recovery.
agnes!

We're amazed that he's pulled through it all too. He really is one tough doggy. I wish the pictures could capture his spunk, but I was lucky to get any shots. I was literally chasing him around my room with a camera!

Oh, my! Those are some nasty-looking wounds! Thank heavens, he's doing so much better. I hope all the tough stuff is behind him!

(he sure looks like a cutie!)

Thank goodness your dog is home and on the mend! I can't even imagine what the poor little guy went through.

I would consider a warning in your title about the picture content. Some people are unable to view pictures that are so graphic.

The poor little guy. :worried:

Have you considered showing the pictures to the owners of the GS? I think I probably would, just presenting it in such a way that you simply want them to see the damage that was done so that hopefully (since it's back) they'll keep him restrained in the future.

PS It's the first time I ever did it but I turned off my signature for this post. ;)

Actually, they tore down the pen the dog was in, so that dog is not coming back, nor are they likely to get another. My parents have no desire to go near them. However, as they live right across from us, they see him when he is out in the yard, so I'm sure they have seen him since the accident.

ETA: I just clicked on your profile to see your signature. What a cute dog! I have absolutely no problem with German Shepherds or other "dangerous" dogs (heck, dachshunds were recently named the number one most aggressive dog!). It's the owners who don't control or take responsibility for them that I have a problem with.

I just read the entire thread and until I saw the pix did not comprehend the severity of poor Schnitzel's injuries. I started crying when I saw them. Your poor, poor baby! I am sending loads of pixie dust your way for a speedy recovery. I am so glad the mean dogs are gone. What a touching story.

Ohh that poor baby, I hope he fully recovers from this. My thoughts are with you and your puppy

Debbie

Those pictures made me want to cry. I'm so happy he's on the mend.

I recognize that "poor pitiful little me" look in that last picture from my own dachshunds. Probably works on you as well as it would on me, especially considering his serious injuries.

darlak: That look gets me into so much trouble! It doesn't work on my parents, but Schnitzel knows I am a softie. He is technically not allowed in my room (he eats things, that's how he ate my bachelor's degree) but I frequently will let him on my bed because I can't stand the thought of him being all alone in the hall. That was the look he gave me Friday when I visited him at the vet and I almost cried because it was so hard to leave him there, even though I knew I was doing the right thing. I'm a sucker for those big brown dachshund eyes!

I just found this thread.

Poor Schnitzel! I was glad to read that the neighborhood menace is gone.
Sending pixie dust and prayers to Schnitzel. pixiedust:
