Fabulous Deals Coming

Thanks for the support guys! I almost had the admins delete this entire thread because I got so attacked at first. I see a few of those posts have disappeared now. That's okay. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I do believe you can just keep scrolling if you aren't interested in the topic. Looking forward to dreaming of a holiday! We were supposed to take a dream trip in July to Europe but I very seriously doubt that it will happen now. Nothing has been cancelled, nothing changed, just waiting to see what is happening in the world at that time in the world and where everyone's comfort level is. Might lose a bundle, hoping we can at east reschedule if we can't go.

OP I am in complete agreement with you. If some positive thinking/dreaming helps one get through this awful time how does that hurt others? Anyways, speaking of Europe we too are booked for a trip there early July (Greece) but are in the process of cancelling. Our airline is giving a 24 month credit and I just read that tourism in that country will begin in July but only for select European countries. We are from Canada where our outbreak has not been too bad and still we are stopped from going. We already had our WDW trip in March cancelled and now I'm losing hope for our New Orleans trip booked for early November. All these trips will definitely be re-booked for 2021 as I am keeping all the funds saved un-touched so 2021 will feel like "free travel" That is not to say I will not be hunting for the best deals I could possibly get. All the best.

good luck with new orleans-sounds like they are being uber proactive for 2021. i just heard a news report that said the powers that be are considering announcing mardi gras and other events for 2021 are already cancelled.

This morning, I was thinking about how you were senselessly attacked.... I was watching The Today Show's "Morning Boost": feel good stories to help lift people's spirits. They have always had this segment and have not discontinued this because it's "insensitive", during this time of sadness, to think happy thoughts or look forward to the future.

So I have been thinking that almost all retailers--whether they are vacation destinations, hotels, clothing stores, car dealerships...everything, will be offering big sales and incentives as we move forward into our post isolation Covid world. I am grateful that our job situation, etc, has allowed us to maintain a steady income so our discretionary spending will still be intact when we are ready to get back out there. I'd love to start a thread of great deals that people are finding on things, particularly travel, and maybe a cell phone, lol. Those dang things NEVER go on sale and I'd like to upgrade! What are everyone's thoughts on this?

We are seeing really good deals from local shops. Don't let the naysayers get to you. If your income still allows you to spend then spend. It is good for everyone when purchases are happening. We really want to get a treadmill and smart trainer and I suspect there will be a lot of gently used options for both in the resale market soon. So many were bought up when gyms closed and statistics say a large number will barely be used. I personally wouldn't be traveling now but do know some people that are. The key is to go places like open national parks or to cities you want to explore knowing that normal "touristy" things will be closed. Most of the people I know that are traveling are going to do some exploration.

A lot of electronics are in short supply. There was the combination of the supply chain disruption when Chinese factories shut down and all of the people that all of a sudden needed to work remotely and bought up stock. I can't say I've personally looked at cell phones but laptops and tablets have been hard to find if you had specific requirements.

A few companies I buy from have had better sales than I've ever seen and yes, I'm taking advantage.

i think it will depend on the type of travel.

i have friends who love cruises but this situation has soured them on the concept and the idea of going on any cruise at any price just sickens them. i suspect that's not uncommon among people so cruises may be one area where deep discounts may be seen. on the other hand-i have family that works for a hotel/destination that while entirely closed since march (with no opening in sight) has kept their switchboard in operation. the get calls at all hours of the day and night asking when they will reopen and if reservations are being accepted. this is a place that's more adult oriented vs. family so i suspect in that area of travel there will be enough demand that discounts won't be offered.

My daughter works for Marriott Been furloughed since early march. Has a return to work date of May 31 but doesn't actually think that will happen :(

I'm sorry it's all being delayed. I'm with you though! DELAYED not cancelled! :) <3

Thank you so much. Hoping your rescheduled trips will bring even more joy to you!
PS If you are doing an adults only trip, which we did a year ago, our theme was "experiences we never had at DIsney" -either because we couldn't afford it at that time, they weren't kid friendly, or a waste of $ for kids. I HIGHLY recommend the food tour at the Magic Kingdom. What a blast! And so yummy!

I'm looking for deals. That's part of pushing the economy is to spend money and I'll send spending in the upcoming months. I'm not celebrating anyone's loss during this crappy time or taking advantage in an ugly manner.
I'm not looking for specific travel deals right now as we are in flux here with work but I'm looking lots other deals.
My DSW is doing 50% off my entire purchase if I order for pickup at the store this weekend. Hello new spring sandals even if my toes look like eagle talons!
At some point, I'm going to need to put on pants that button and see if I'm still good for summer clothes or even if I am likely going to pick up few new summer dresses at discount.
Oh and we are going to buy a new car soon so looking forward to those discounts!

we are in washington state and i think what happens over the next several weeks in the idaho panhandle is going to drive allot of decision making in our region. idaho is only tentatively planning on reopening restaurants in mid may, and bars, nightclubs/ allowing for mid size gatherings in mid to late june BUT one establishment has already reopened it's restaurants and will open it's casino to the public friday. they are exempt from any fed or state laws because they are on tribal land. they also have a resort hotel on property.

i suspect that the hotels and resorts in our state are going to be watching the stats in idaho very closely b/c the last thing they want to do is re-open, get an outbreak and have to go through all the hr stuff in addition to resanitizing their properties (to their credit-the properties on tribal lands in washington voluntarily closed down and remain so out of concern for the public and their staff).

I hope there will be sales to be had. I've read that many retailers may not make it through this. Many clothing retailers canceling their fall orders. But, I'm trying to stay positive. I did hear the new iPhone will be coming out, base model starting at $350.

I'm in MA and currently all spas and salons have been ordered to close since they are not essential. I can't wait until they are open and I can spend my $$$ there. Usually they have monthly specials each month at the spa I go to so I'm excited to see what they'll come out with once they are allowed to open.

The governor in CA announced yesterday that it will be months, not weeks before barbers/hair salons are open. It just occurred to me that I have a WDW trip planned in 3 months time that is looking far more certain now. There's a good chance that will be our first opportunity for a haircut. Crazy.

We are in the middle of a home renovation design. Our variance meeting was to be April 2 with construction to start June/July but now everything is delayed. I can't wait to get our construction loan/mortgage with these new great rates. I can't wait to start picking out appliances and finishes and some new furniture. I wish I could start shopping for them now and lock in some good deals. This has all been budgeted for so I can't wait to do my part to spur the economy.

Won't things get more expensive, to make up the shortfall businesses experienced while closed?

I have been finding amazing deals on clothes from JJill/Talbots/Nordstrom. Makeup was 25% off at Neiman Marcus recently - including Oribe hair products, so I stocked up.

Does anyone else love kitchen gadgets? I am having to keep myself from buying things that will end up at goodwill in a few years!

Travel deals will be had - and since I haven't taken any time off this year, will have a lot of vacation.
One other thing I found a deal on - plastic surgeon is willing to take a percentage off - guess a number of patients are postponing. So I am booking an arm lift later this year.

Unemployment in the US is between 10-20%. People are struggling to pay their rent. And consumer spending is down. Retailers will hold off as long as they can before cutting prices to move inventory. We’re one month into this, so the price drops won’t happen immediately. But I expect to see drops happen first in clothing. It really depends how long it takes for us to recover.

2019 was frankly the worst year of my life, with bad news at every turn, it seemed. Starting to plan a Nov 2020 WDW trip with DD was a life saver. No idea when our trip will actually take place, but it still works to help us stay sane, something we both desperately need.

While 2020 events are not as intensely personal as what we faced in 2019, it is still a bumpy ride and I definitely appreciate anything that lets us look forward to better times!

Obviously, my first BIG expenditure will be our trip, and we are now looking at it including more family members. YAY!

Stay safe, and optimistic, everyone.

This is a great thread for thinking about what we can and want to do in the hopefully near future. I am hoping for good deals on cars. We have 2 old cars (17 years old and 15 years old) and we really need a new one. My hours have been cut so if I get back most of my hours at some point this year and DH is still employed, we are car hunting. Plus travel deals will be fun to look at. I also will be looking forward to eating in my favorite local restaurants. We are supporting them now by doing take out. We all need a bit of optimism and don't need the gloom and doom all the time. Thanks for starting the thread.

I’m in. My friend and I would like an all inclusive resort. Me a massage a day and water activities, her wine and food and sitting at the water edge. Looking for 2022. Looking at Maldives currently. Anyone got any recommendations, throw them out.
I did just score a good deal on Nike shoes, delivery to the door.
And for yeti - got DH a Xmas present.
