Explosions and shootings in Paris

In any war. You are either all in or all out. You want to win you are all in. If you are not then you should be all out.

Now it isn't a choice. We are now fighting for our lives. ISIS said they will come after us and they are ... Paris.

Not stopped it will be here.

It's time for everyone to wake up to the fact that "here" is wherever civilized humans want to live in a civilized society -- it has no borders, it has no creed, it has no race, it has no ethnicity, it has no politics. It's civilized human beings standing together for peace, telling Daesh and all others who would terrorize and threaten peaceful society very simply, No.

Oh it has politics alright.

I'm not saying they aren't allowing you to change your picture to the Lebananese flag. What I mean is that right now Facebook has added the ability to take your existing profile picture and cover it with a semi-transparent French flag. All you have to do is click a button. But only a French flag. They didn't do that for Kenya in April. They didn't do that for Lebanon. I know it's minor, and very picky. It's just interesting to me that one's more important than others.

What is boils down to is that France is a Western country populated mainly by Caucasians, shares many of the same values and lifestyles as those in the US, and is a favored destination for tourists. Lebanon and Kenya, on the other hand.....

Of course France is going to receive more attention in Western nations, especially because it happened in Paris.

France stood by the United States when we were attacked on 9/11, did Beirut and Kenya? France supported us, so many people want to show solidarity and support them. Don't know why anyone would have a problem with that.

Not as simple, as many countries are finding out many of the terrorist are "homegrown". next, where are you going to deport them to? Let's say you get a guy who you have some one here you suspect is a terrorist, he's here legally but an Iraian, African or syrian national. Do you think it's a simple put them on the plane and ship them back?

If it's not easy to "ship them back" when there is evidence that they are or could be a terrorist, well then we need to change some of our laws. Can't let political correctness kill innocent people. I think a lot of people might feel different if it was their family member that got killed by a terrorist.

Again we have to go back to history. We did not, as a nation, want to get involved in the fight with Germany. As a result we ended up fighting a war, a big war.
I
If we had stood up to Germany we may not have had that war. It was found out later that Hitler was afraid of America. He knew he couldn't win. When Japan bombed us he felt he had no choice.

The Cuba missile crisis is another. JFK would not back down and challenged Russia. I worked with someone who was a crew chief on B-52s. He said in the event the B-52s were ordered to bombed Russia the crew chief must fly on the plane. That was the only time that order was given. The order to go was def-con one. We were at def-con two. It scared him silly.

Once Russia knew we would back down they would have pushed for more.

ISIS knows we won't respond.

When we were fightering al-Qaeda and we put a massive amount of troops on the ground the enemy chatter was call it off we are losing.

I mentioned the tactic of carpet bombing. Back then it was the only way to do it. Today, with laser/gps bombs we can have the same results with minimal collateral damage. We did this when we were winning. There were about 2,000 missions a day. Today it is only 20 and the majority missions return without dropping anything. Can't do much degrading the enemy that way.
Many times when you go in hard and fast less lives will be lost than when you come in later

So now ISIS released a video saying they plan to attack DC like Paris. I'm interested to see what response we (the USA) will have to this. I'll admit I never paid this much attention to these things until my husband joined the military, now I find myself checking the news everyday and always wondering.

Why am I starting to see people mention timothy mcvee, which happened 10 years ago? Yes, he was an evil human being that got the death penalty rather quickly. Please don't use him as an example, as it was 10 years ago and obviously a very random act. Let's not compare him to the radical Islamic terrorists, who seem to strike on a weekly/monthly basis around the world.
It wasn't a random act. It was a very planned act. The terrorist group planned that attack for over a year, and considered several targets before settling on the Murrah building. They reason people bring it up is that it is a domestic, white, radical anti Government, religious group that committed a heinous act on US soil. People do not have to be Muslims to be terrorists. He was not a single evil person. He was a perfectly functional healthy person until he went off to war, came back, became involved with right wing, anti government, militia movement types here in our own country. He is a perfect example of how people become radicalized and paranoid. So that's why people bring it up.

Very astute.

I understand your thought process. My thoughts upon hearing the news on Friday went immediately to "my two Marines", one family and one effectively family, and how this might impact their assignments.

God bless your husband and all of our military for all they do.

History again. The only person, Yamamoto who planned the attack on Pearl Harbor, warned the leaders not to attack the United States. They perceived us as weak and believed they could pull it off. Yamamoto was educated in the United States and he knew our capabilities.

The reason to attack was to take us out opening the way for them to conquer the Far East.

Yes, I know he was an lone evil terrorist white male on US soil, but it happened 20 years ago and the Islamic terrorists are striking weekly/monthly all over the world. IMO, the two are no comparison and 1 incident in 20 years does seem to be random to me (meaning it is not a daily threat, like the Islamic terrorists who are numerous and looking for targets at all times)

Possibly so. But who gets to be the arbiter of which viewpoint is correct? Can you definitively say one or the other is true, with objective proof?
Yeah and I get that part, too, but from what I've seen and how the media decides to portray certain things, it rings true from an opinion-based view. I don't think anyone can be unbiased when it comes down to it, but I figured I could point it out.
