EXILED FROM CHINATOWN: the girls take on the big apple! THE END!!! p.25

I've always wanted to visit FAO Schwarz! It looks like yall had a blast playing around in the toy store!

Ellen's looks like such a cute little restaurant. I would've been SO annoyed by that couple, too. Except, I think I would've made a snide comment "a little too loud" for them to hear me!

I'm glad yall had such a good time!

Aw I miss Ellen's! I haven't been since early 2007 and it's always so much fun. As long as you stick to the simple stuff like burgers and sandwiches the food's always good. And it's so kitchy and hilarious in there that was always have a good time! I'm glad you all liked it!

Great pictures! That couple would've skeeved me out and I probably would've said something. I can't even imagine the dirty looks my mom would've given tham :lmao: Thankfully they left after a while!

I am caught up on all of your NYC fun, Dawn!!! St. Patrick's is beautiful, isn't it? That's too bad that you weren't able to find the piano from Big at FAO Schrawz :(. That couple at Ellen's was unbelievable! Some people have no manners. :lmao:

I just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying your trip report!!!! I have never been to New York and don't see it in my future travel plans, so I feel like I am having a mini - vaca thru you!!!! Thanks so much for sharing!!!!

:woohoo: for another update! I don't think I've ever been in FAO Schwarz before! It's really cool in there I love the Barbie fashion show and the make your own Muppet.

Well, you know how we felt about Ellen's...not for me LOL We didn't get anything too crazy...my friend got grilled cheese and she said it was bad...didn't know you could mess that up! Anyway, glad you guys enjoyed yourselves even if you had that obnoxious drunk couple next to you. I'm surprised you didn't say something since after reading a few of your TRs, I know you're one to speak up! :)

I guess you can see just about anything in New York. It sounds like you had a very entertaining afternoon.

My kids would have loved the build your own Muppet. We bought them a first two seasons of the Muppet show on DVD, and they love it. My son especially likes the episode with Elton John. So now my 6 year old is a huge Elton John fan.

Hopefully they were wearing their panties that morning!;)

Obnoxious drunks drive me crazy...........if you want to drink great, but don't act like a butt head.:confused3

What fun shopping!!! And I want to go eat at Ellen's :upsidedow

To bad you had to be SO close to the drunk people :headache:

Drummer dude was really cool....I could stand and listen to that all day!

i know! he was so good. i love watching people perform like that. i don't mind giving my money to someone if they're actually doing something to earn it. ellen's was fun - you'd love it!

Did he pee his pants????? :lmao:

maybe! :rotfl2:

oh, it was so fun! you and jacob would have a blast in there. those people were so obnoxious. but i decided not to say anything because the guy was sooooooo beligerent that it would've just turned out ugly.

Aw I miss Ellen's! I haven't been since early 2007 and it's always so much fun. As long as you stick to the simple stuff like burgers and sandwiches the food's always good. And it's so kitchy and hilarious in there that was always have a good time! I'm glad you all liked it!

yeah, it was fun! i'm sure some of the other food isn't that great but the burger was okay. the pickle was really good! that couple was getting dirty looks from all directions but they were so tanked they didn't notice.

I am caught up on all of your NYC fun, Dawn!!! St. Patrick's is beautiful, isn't it? That's too bad that you weren't able to find the piano from Big at FAO Schrawz :(. That couple at Ellen's was unbelievable! Some people have no manners. :lmao:

oh, st. patrick's was UNBELIEVABLE! that couple was ridiculous. i felt bad for those 16yo girls sitting behind them because they guy kept looking at them. yuck! oh, and just wait - you may see the piano from big later on. :rolleyes1

I just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying your trip report!!!! I have never been to New York and don't see it in my future travel plans, so I feel like I am having a mini - vaca thru you!!!! Thanks so much for sharing!!!!

thanks! glad you are able to live vicariously through me!

oh, you should go by there. it's on 5th avenue near the south end of central park. like i said, the burgers were okay. i'm thinking our bills were around $17 each, which is a lot for burgers but i guess you're paying for the entertainment too. yeah, i decided not to say anything because i've learned you have to pick your battles and they weren't doing anything directly to us.....just being obnoxious in general. they were so drunk it wouldn't have ended up well.

Wow...definately sounds like you had an entertaining meal! :rotfl:

yeah, it was tons of fun!

Make your own Muppett?? That would be awesome! Can't wait to hear about Wicked.

i thought so too! wicked's comin up!

I guess you can see just about anything in New York. It sounds like you had a very entertaining afternoon.

it was great! so cute about elton john! i love him so that's a good thing. :thumbsup2 i had "your song" played on the piano at my wedding.

Hopefully they were wearing their panties that morning!;)

Obnoxious drunks drive me crazy...........if you want to drink great, but don't act like a butt head.:confused3

yeah, i'm pretty sure i can safely say they didn't pull a britney.

i agree! i don't know why god didn't program our bodies to reject alcohol at a certain point.

Ellen's looked like so much fun!!! :goodvibes Can't wait to hear about Wicked (one of my favs!).

it was really fun! wicked is comin' up!

(i'm writing in green because it seems appropriate for the "wicked" update!)

so after lunch at ellen's we headed back to the hotel for a break. brooke and anna decided to go check out the gym at the hotel. i felt fine but figured i better not push it so i stayed in the room, took a shower and then a nap and i'm glad i did! it was a nice little break.

the show started at 8:00 and i believe we left the hotel around 7:00. we walked to the theater because it was only like 3 blocks away.

again, anna decided to play paparazzi but the sun foiled her plans!

one more try.....

DSC01331.jpg

as we were approaching times square we saw some firefighters in full gear running into a building right in front of us. we never did figure out what was going on but it was kinda freaky.

DSC01332.jpg

another street candid....

DSC01334.jpg

posing in times square again......

DSC01335.jpg

anna + a camera = TROUBLE!!!! that girl is picture crazy. i remember the first time ray and i spent a substantial amount of time with she and chris. it was chris's 30th birthday and we rented a cabin in the mountains. i believe it was the 2nd day with her and ray looked at me and said, "is she seriously taking another picture of us?" :lmao: god love her.

all three of us take a turn....

DSC01336.jpg

look who i saw on times square......A FAKE MICKEY!!!

DSC01337.jpg

then we saw the tin man. kinda funny since we were on the way to see wicked.

DSC01338.jpg

it didn't take us long and we turned the corner of 51st street and saw this! :woohoo:

DSC01339.jpg

the guy that took this picture did a crappy job but what the heck....

DSC01341.jpg

i don't know if i mentioned this before but my sister wouldn't walk over the grates in the streets in NYC. they didn't bother me and i just walked right over them the whole time. well, this night was the first night i head heels on (the first night i had on wedges) and sure enough my heel got stuck in the grate right outside the theater! anna had to get it out for me. i felt like jennifer lopez in "the wedding planner"! :rotfl:

here we are!

DSC01342.jpg

SO MUCH happened before dorothy dropped in!

DSC01344.jpg

this picture is funny to me because brooke looks really mad!

DSC01345.jpg

i have no idea why i'm smiling so goofy here....

DSC01346.jpg

i love this one!

DSC01347.jpg

some signs over the doors as we went into the theater....

DSC01348.jpg

DSC01349.jpg

so there will be a break in the pictures here. apparently at broadway shows they are VERY strict about the no pictures/video rule. like so strict that i'd have to take a 2nd mortgage on my house to pay the fine if i got caught!!!! so i didn't chance it.

we made our way up the stairs and looked at the merchandise before we found our seats. talk about overpriced!!!!!! they make concert prices look cheap. needless to say, we didn't buy anything. they had some really cute t-shirts but i wasn't paying what they were asking.

when we got to our seats we were REALLY happy. if i had to guess i'd say we were about 20 rows back and over to the left side of the stage if you're looking at it. the only complaint i had with seat location was if someone was at the very back of the stage it was hard to see them, but that hardly ever happened. the set was REALLY cool! i wish i could've gotten pictures.

if you don't know anything about "wicked," let me give you the low-down. wicked is the story of elphaba, who later becomes the wicked witch of the west in "the wizard of oz," and galinda, who later becomes glinda the good witch. it shows how they went to the same school (dear old shiz) and how they hated each other, then became friends and how elphaba gets the title of the wicked witch of the west. it's really an amazing story and you will NEVER look at "the wizard of oz" the same again once you've heard it!

the show was AMAZING. i cannot express to you how impressed i was with this show. i knew it would be good but i had no idea i'd be blown away. it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it right now!

the girl that played elphaba when we were there was nicole parker. you may recognize her from mad TV.

nicoleparker.jpg

this is her as elphaba...

i knew she was hilarious on madTV but i never knew she was an EXTREMELY talented singer too! i was soooooo impressed!

i have to share this because it's hilarious. if you don't recognize her picture from above you may recognize some of these clips. she does an AWESOME impression of britney spears on mad TV that's just hysterical and this is a best-of video. if you've seen "meet the spartans" she's in that, too, and the part where she's playing crazy britney was the funniest thing i've seen in a long time! it's near the end of this video.

please note: there is some language and adult content in these so be warned before watching them in front of the kiddies!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jfeJTZxuBw

oh, on a side note, do you remember the girl who played patrick dempsey's girlfriend in "enchanted"? well, that was idina menzel, who played elphaba from 2003 to 2005 and won the tony in 2004 for best leading actress in a musical. this is her. if you have the CD of this musical, this is probably who is playing the part of elphaba.

Idinaredcarpet.jpg

a girl named alli mauzy played galinda (who later changes her name to glinda) when we were there and she was HILARIOUS! i found this on youtube. it's her singing "popular" where she's trying to make-over elphaba. it's great stuff. this isn't nicole parker but it is alli mauzey. sorry for the crappy quality. galinda looks really white in this!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLinnWaoyoc

i found this too. who would've thought she's really a brunette!?!?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWgP0R3AfqQ

i found a couple more videos on youtube to share since i don't have any! this is the best part of the show in my opinion, "defying gravity." it's the part where elphaba learns to fly and defies the wizard. if you are going to see this show and don't like spoilers, don't watch this video!!! now this is not nicole parker but a girl named jennifer reiber who i'm not really fond of. but watch the whole thing - you will be amazed by what happens!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-TOalHUnv0

intermission is right after this and i was glad because i needed a minute to compose myself after that part! :rotfl:

this is nicole parker singing "no good deed." i was so surprised at how great her voice is. i just thought she was a comedian!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJclY5u8xWg

like i said, it was SUCH a good show!!!! i really hope it comes back to atlanta because i'll go see it again in a heartbeat.

the only bad part was that we had two girls in front of us who would not shut up the entire first half. whispering or laughing every now and then is fine but you're at a BROADWAY show.....NOT A CONCERT!!!!!! SHUT UP!!!!!!! my sister was getting really irrirated (they were right in front of her) so during intermission i went over to an usher and said, "i don't want to cause trouble but there are two girls sitting in front of us who keep talking during the show and it's very distracting." the usher was like, "WHERE?????" he was ON IT!!!! it was like he was salivating to get someone in trouble! :lmao: when everyone was seated he just came over to their row and made a "general" announcement that everyone needs to refrain from talking. i think they talked once during the second half but that was it. :thumbsup2

after the show we made our way out and got our picture made in front of one of the set designs downstairs. of course the guy that took the picture cut half of it out!

DSC01350.jpg

we had late dinner reservations afterwards so we started to make our way to the restaurant. on the way we were feeling very theatrical.....

DSC01351.jpg

DSC01352.jpg

DSC01354.jpg

anna's leg looks broken in that last picture! :rotfl2:

times square at night again!

DSC01356.jpg

and more paparazzi pics.....:rotfl:

DSC01355.jpg

my sister is ridiculous.

DSC01360.jpg

this one cracks me up. we both look mad and brooke looks just like our dad and i look just like my mom!

DSC01365.jpg

up next.....dinner with the stars and REAL NEW YORK CHEESECAKE!!!! :dance3:

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Wicked update. I want to see that so badly. I listen to the soundtrack often. Thanks for posting the videos. You girls look like you were having tons of fun. Yum cheesecake, looking forward to the next update.

Aww glad you liked Wicked! And can I just say that I love that you guys dressed up for Broadway? It always bugs me when people show up for a show looking like they are going to the grocery store, or worse, the gym. Maybe it's because when I was a kid, my mom was constantly taking me to Broadway, or to the Met, or the ballet, and we would always dress up, even for a matinee.

Now, I am going to have to go get the soundtrack for Wicked.

You three all look so fabulous!!!

Too funny about your reference to The Wedding Planner -- but J. Lo did end up with yummy Matthew Mcconaughey when she lost her heel! :lmao:

Hahahaha Nicole Parker from MadTV!! I love her doing Britney Spears! :rotfl:

Hey! That Idina Menzel was just at my college earlier this year to perform!

First off its really nice to see people dress up for the theater. it ticks me off when people treat it like its nothing. To me its a thing to get a bit dressed up for! Anyways. The first time I saw Wicked (saw it twice) I didn't know the whole story just the general jist- man did I bawl like a baby! I LOVED it. One of my fav theater experiences EVER!!!!! I'm so glad you all had such a great time!
