I'm more serious than funny. However, DH makes me laugh a lot, I like his humor.

What are some of your kitchen secrets or tips? Ex. how do you boil a good egg with the shell coming off easily? Any homemade cleaning mixtures....?

Good morning all!:surfweb:
I know most of you probably don't like grits, but they are a staple here in the South!;) If you start out cooking them in cold water you will avoid getting lumpy grits-just make sure you stir them often!
Same thing with boiled eggs-cook the eggs in cold water and the shell, when cracked, is easy to remove!:thumbsup2
Hope everyone has a great day! We're burning up down here in SC! Heat Index will be 110 today!!!!:cool2:

Good morning :).

Wow what a hot day. My son is sick, and I have alot on my mind so I am up. It is only 1:41am.

Thank you for those tips. :goodvibes

Use a bit of baking soda in the water for your eggs and the shells will come off alot easier. Almost lost one of the hounds last night. DH thought we had the screen door on the front door shut, apparently not, Catie bolted down the street. DH caught up with her, just before she entered a walkway that entered into a heavily travelled street and caught her. Had she made it onto that street she would have been a dead dog. So from now on the front door stays shut, even if we are working outside as an extra precaution. DH is paying dearly for the run this morning, and is stiff as a board. He was lucky to catch her as Greyhounds can reach 40mph in 4 strides. Safe to say that she is going to be in the doghouse (so to speek) for a while. As an xracer they have no street smarts what so ever, and have no clue that cars and many other things can hurt/kill them. I'm just glad that he caught her in time before she entered the busy street a couple of streets behind us.

My dogs have no street smarts either and they are outside dogs. We live on a street that doesn't get a lot of traffic and live back off the road about 200 feet. When they make it that far, they tend to just look at a car and keep going expecting it to stop like we do.

Kitchen secrets/tips? Hmmm, I'll have to give that one some thought. How about putting a slice of bread in your hardened brown sugar to soften it up?

While our street doesn't get much traffic, we are surrounded by heavily travelled streets around us, which means if they get out, and we don't catch them in time, they are as good as dead. We have a fully fenced back yard, and are extra careful with opening the front door, and the gate to the back yard, but even so, no matter how careful you are, there are going to be times where mistakes are made, and all it takes is one mistake, and they are gone. Catie knows she's in big trouble and has been sucking up to me and DH ever since. She's currently in my office asleep while I'm typing this, couch potato that she is. Just glad that Dozer (short for bulldozer) our big male greyhound had the sense not to follow her out the door, and stayed behind so that we could catch her.

I'm so glad he was able to catch her!

Kitchen tip..If you get fruit flies, put some red wine vinegar in the bottom of a small container, then mix in a bit of dishsoap with it. The vinegar draws them in and the dishsoap kills them.

Something more palatable..lol.. freeze ice cubes of your fave drink and use them instead of water so you drink doesn't get watered down as the ice melts. :)

Patsy - Hope your son is feeling better.

I'm glad Catie is ok!

My tips: When you get the stuck on crud on the bottom of your pan (like after scrambling eggs), put some water in it and get it good and hot and it is much easier to scrape off. And along the lines of pipersmom ... freeze some soup cubes if you have any left and then you can throw them in your kids' soup the next time you make it - cools it off just enough for them to eat, but doesn't dilute the soup.

What is one thing that your SO could do for you that would mean alot to you, but to him/her they may just see it as just something that doesn't mean much.

Ex. Breakfast in bed, picking up the kids from school....

Mine already does them too :lovestruc One of the things I appreciate the most is that when he is able he'll give the kids their bath at the end of the day.

While my DH should spend more time with the kids, he does spoil me rotten, and is going to take on the kids for 9 days in Oct so I can take off to DL solo. So you gotta love a guy who's willing to do that for you, and at the same time doing union training with a big wig from back east, at home while the kids are at school.:love::love::love:

While when I'm booking a vacation, I don't mind booking or ordering items or services from online websites that I can trust, but I don't like the shopping channels and haven't even watched one for years.

I don't mind QVC. Sometimes I'll watch them. My aunt does a lot of ordering from, I think, HSN and some of the cookware that she has gotten me as gifts are wonderful.

No, I really don't watch the home shopping channels. I do admit that I was occasionally looking at QVC today because it was Christmas in July and they had this great 3 piece artificial lighted tree on sale -one wire. The thing went up in about 10 seconds.
