Everthing you wanted to know about Uber/Lyft at WDW

Thanks for all this info, can't wait to try Uber when I will be there in September and December. I have not put the app on my phone yet, but just wanted to know do you put your tip on when you pay? Or are you able to tip your driver when you get to your destination?

Uber will not process tips; in fact, they encourage riders not to tip. Uber drivers, of course, welcome tips, but they must be paid in cash directly to the driver.

Lyft, OTOH, encourages tipping, and allows riders to add them within the app.

So using Wi-fi for Uber and or Lyft won't work? I have also been asking about it as I only have an ipod mini with Wi-fi only.
It may work. It may not work. WiFi is spotty, overloaded and unreliable. What it can't do is be guaranteed to work.
But, if I had to bet I'd bet on being able to get a signal working long enough to request a ride.

One other thing to consider, I've had several drivers call me, or text me. Usually call though, to check in about where to meet. I always text them with my exact spot, since obviously there are lots of people around and it's not always easy to spot who needs picking up.

Maybe the drivers here can chime in on how they'd handle it if they wanted to call a passenger and they aren't using a phone. If there is no phone on your device. I know my Mini can't be a phone but I do think there could be some sort of app that mimics a phone but have never tried one to know if they work or not. Just something to consider.

With the new (lousy) water park bus system (where you have to transfer at DTD for Typhoon Lagoon or AK for Blizzard Beach), it seems like Uber or Lyft is almost a must for those of us who plan to go to water parks without having a car.

So we'll probably plan to use Uber on our water park days. Along those lines, has anyone had any trouble using Uber to/from Poly, BC, or AKL (still deciding on these 3 resorts)?

Thanks in advance.

No, we use Uber Resort to Resort all the time. It's never been any trouble at all.

Theres nothing that tells us whether youre on a working phone or not. The system uses the phone number in your profile. So if I txt or calm someone, and theres no response, Ill do one of a couple things. If the location is a clear no go (like in front of the castle at MK) or is clearly wrong (like way off in the woods along world drive) Ill cancel it out and code it as wrong pickup location. If the location is accessible, I drive to it and wait the required 5 minutes. Its expected that people are at an allowed pickup location (see the original post for those) when the request comes through amd that theyve entered that information correctly. While usually a call or txt can solve things, you may not have that option if the driver is already on another ride.

Thanks. I'm not doing Disney this time so locations would be from Cabana Bay Resort to Orlando International Premium Outlets and back, and to our other hotel Springhill Suites at SW, and from Springhill to the airport.

The only pick up (that I can see) that might cause trouble is the one from Orlando International Premium Outlets. As I have never used either Lyft or Uber I'm not sure how you say where you are.

Is there a way to tell that the car is driving for Uber or Lyft? Or is that why you need a phone so the driver can tell you what kind of vehicle to look for?

Theres 2 ways:
1)it defaults to the gps location of where you are standing. So make sure thats correct, or move the pin to adjust. You'll probably use this method at the outlets
2) You can manually type in by address or by name. So if you start typing "springhill suites" when you are there, the closest one will pop up in the search list.

I haven't used lyft but Uber tells you the make and model of the car, plate number and Driver name. Some include a pic of both car and driver and some don't. One thing I'd like to see them add is color of car. So many look alike, at least to me. I mean 1 crossover suv looks like all others. Color would help me a lot but we make do

Thanks for all the great information. Might be using Uber during our best trip so we won't have to get a car.

Figure I'd share that using Uber to get back to MCO saved us a HUGE headache Sunday night. Well, a "huge-er" headache. It was a headache but would have been worse
We were walking out of Epcot, right about underneath SE, when I got an alert that our flight had been delayed. Had we used ME instead, we would have already been on the bus on the way to the airport.
Told DH we could slow down, we had a few more minutes now.
Well, it wasn't 1 min later I got another alert of another delay. This one was more substantial and we were no longer going to be making the connecting flight to home. That meant spending the night at the airport to catch another flight out that morning.
DH and I quickly deducted that we'd much rather spend the night in Orlando instead of Atlanta's airport so I accepted flight changes to just take our flight out on Monday morning instead of Sunday night.
Epcot was about to close so we opted to hop on the monorail, instead of get in an Uber, and head over to Poly and have a few drinks and watch Wishes from the Trader Sam patio.
Had we used ME we would have just hung out at the airport all evening instead. Wouldn't have been near as fun

What is the current drop off/ pick up locations at Disney Springs?
The official pick-up/drop-off is in the Strawberry parking lot behind Cirque.

Someone had posted in a thread that there were also drop-offs in the garages, but I can't vouch for that personally. I don't see any reason that a driver wouldn't drop you off in one of the garages, since there's no security or toll booth to go through. You might get a driver to pick you up there if you call or text after they accept the ride. (The Uber app has a link to do that.) Cell service is probably spotty in the garages, so there might be some difficulty meeting up when the driver arrives if the meeting spot isn't nailed down.

I used Uber this weekend too and from Universal City Walk. I was at Saratoga Springs and it worked great.

I had a car, but didn't want to deal with parking plus I knew I would want an adult beverage. I had the drivers pick me up and drop me off at the lobby as I am a single female and that just felt more secure!

Haven't read experiences on this thread (and yes I've read every page :crazy2: - phew!) regarding specifics on pick up from Port Canaveral back to friends who live in Golden Oaks on Disney property. Is there decent availability after we get off the ship and will we have to deal with surge pricing? Is there a designated area that uber picks up from?

2 questions:

how long of a ride is it from art of animation to disney contemporary resort?

how long of a ride is it from art of animation to 1900 park fare?

Back during construction there was a temporary area in the orange garage. That is no more. So unless theres an unforseen issue blocking access to the strawberry lot, thats where we go. On pickup, the app will default you to that lot as well.

My understanding is that theres a bunch of drivers over there that wait on the ships to get in. The Port itself actually will issue permits to Uber drivers, and Im told they all have them. Theres generally not a surge back from the Port, but expect the base rate to be larger.
