Even Disney Is Worried About the High Cost of a Disney Vacation

They need to have lots of "streetmosphere" and character greetings. 2 parades a day
The "streetmosphere" is still there. It's just different due to new shows and new performers. There are many roaming characters as well as designated places for meets & greets.

As for parades, Magic Kingdom often has 3 per day.

A cavalcade is not a parade.

I do find the subject of this post ironic since Disney literally just announced trying to milk the consumers to the max with the "dynamic" pricing. Doesn't seem like they care much about the price.

Dynamic pricing is a myth as there's a floor price. It's only dynamic on the high end.

I love that this thread is ongoing while news has been released saying Disney is considering moving to dynamic pricing. Doesn't really FEEL like Disney is all that worried about the high price of a Disney trip.
I actually think that this might help them optically... They will be able to say prices "start at", be able to have even lower prices, say they reward planners and those families who "save for years" for the Disney vacation, etc.

A cavalcade is not a parade.
The floats don't seem as intricate as they used to, and I suspect security concerns have prevented the audience participation they used to have....

The nighttime shows and parades also are lacking compared to the old days....

and of course AK and Epcot have gotten rid of much of their entertainment as well.

Optics don't mean squat when it's time to check out and pay.

When I think of streetmosphere I generally think of how bad Epcot is now in that department which a bit before covid it was starting but covid really removed a lot of those contracts and they never chose to bring them back. It was pretty brutal how left and right things were being cut and just hasn't ever come back.

I had fun enjoying the construction workers jamming out over in Universal and the Blues Brothers as well as seeing the Mystery Gang interact and play games with kids on and around a bench (that one is not as easily replicable especially as it works best with low crowds but an example I can give).

For crowd reasons (and value if using that subjective measure) you need a variety of things that spread out where people are clumped over the day.

I don't think it helps any company out optically because majority of people realize it means they will be paying more than they currently are because that's generally how it goes when a company says they are going to dynamic pricing. It's not the norm for Disney (or most companies) to reduce their pricing in order to move up in pricing, what it often means is the present lowest price just stays that way and the others increase, sure it can also happen that the lowest price reduces a few bucks, but the point remains that most recognize it as "great we're going to pay even more now", that's normally the optics surrounding any announcement of a company to fluctuate their pricing by demand. And there's also a lack of trust too on this demand because lack of transparency. At least with SWA when I look at WGA they tell me how many tickets are left at X price, some hotel brands do this as well alerting you to how many rooms are left at that price. I'll also give a personal example, I don't know the exact amount but we absolutely saved money when we purchased our Virgin Atlantic tickets via points for later this year before their dynamic pricing went into effect.

Anyone remember the Wendy'sgate of recent times when they in a really bad way had that dynamic pricing but no it's not really dynamic pricing gaffe.

I'm not sure Disney needs to go back to being more affordable. What they need to do is add value. When the parks are crowded, Disney needs to ensure that they have the maximum amount of cast members working to run continuous busses and shuttles and have all of the rides running at maxmium capacity. In addition, they need to be having a large number of cast members working in food service to accomodate all of the counter service meals. They need to have lots of "streetmosphere" and character greetings. 2 parades a day, longer hours....Basically, the need to provide enough entertainment and service to spread out the crowds. Instead, I feel like Disney has the crowds but has cut costs and park park hours wherever possible., which makes the parks feel more crowded than they did in the past.
I don't disagree that more value could be there but the bulk of the discussion has been about overall cost. from that view, if a family has been priced out of the parks, how do any of those value adds help?

I also think there's a lot more streetmosphere back than people give them credit for and the now regular character greets in the resorts are actually a new add, if I'm not mistaken.

IIRC covid was the reason for the cavalcades, they temporarily replaced the meet and greets with these right? They’re sort of parades but not the same level of spectacle.

The streetmosphere is back. The performers and the shows may be different, but they are there. I personally don't recognize several of the new characters/songs, but the younger generations do.

Epcot now has an outdoor theater in the non-World Showcase area with live performances. Every time we walked by, the audience seemed to have a blast with the dancing and singing.

Yes, it looks like the resorts now have scheduled meets & greets. But even before this, there were always characters posing with guests at the hotels we stayed at.

Yes, and true to the word  cavalcade, they did have a horse in the procession. Thankfully the live animal has been removed.
The current cavalcade is different from the ones during Covid.

The topic is Is Disney worried about the high cost of WDW vacation? At most, very mildly. If they were really concerned the simple solution is no price hikes for all of 2025....not one penny more for tickets, lodging, food, transportation, or merchandise. Since we all know that is not going to happen, Disney is not all that concerned.

100% this.
This got me to thinking--yes I know this is dangerous. All the things Disney revolutionized. One price ticket to get into park (rather than buying tickets in the park to get on each ride). The track system on roller coasters. The theming of the different lands. Even the current system of time shares from buying a week of time to having a point based system. Now the only created thinking is how to charge more dollars for the same benefits. The creative juices have really dried up.

I addressed a lot of this earlier. Disney did not revolutionize most of these.

- Disney implemented the single admission price long after many other amusement park operators did so, especially after they started losing attendance to Magic Mountain in SoCal.
- Knott’s was the first theme park. Disneyland was heavily modeled after the park. Walt Disney and Walter Knotts were good friends and Walter Knotts gave Disney full access to his park. The hub-and-spoke system at DL (and later WDW) was designed specifically because Walt noticed people moved counterclockwise at Knott’s, and it was an inefficient design. Many other elements of WDW, liked theme queues, Disney admit came from Knott’s.
- Disney was most definitely not the first time share program to use a points system in lieu of deeded weeks.

Disney fanatics think Disney is an innovator, when it has long been a passive follower - it watches others do something first, follows the reaction… then implements it themselves but fine tuned.

Disney already uses a dynamic pricing system on its date/based tickets. It’s nothing new. But the tiers are set in advance and now they’ll have flexibility in adjusting them based on demand. Most everything will eventually change to date-based tickets but that was going to happen anyway.

Our last magical trip to WDW was in 2018 at the Polynesian, and our only trip to Disneyland was in 2019 at the Disneyland Hotel. Our 2020 WDW trip was canceled due to the pandemic.

In 2021, we went from spending $8,000-10,000 on a Disney vacation to $2,500 on a beach vacation. Last year we took three beach vacations and spent less than we did for one Disney vacation. We can no longer reconcile spending so much money to see Mickey. Now prices are even higher, and I can’t imagine how much more a Disney vacation would cost us now.

It is my dream to experience Disney with my future grandchildren, but for now, it’s definitely not happening. I truly hope that when that day comes, crowds are controlled in a more guest friendly way with more reasonable prices and plenty of magical experiences.

What I am gathering here is that a business should never change or adapt, no matter if it is demand or CPI, AND it should be willing to leave money on the table bc they will make that up down the road. Lol.

Basically, Disney is doomed while every other tourist destination is not doomed. Or something to that effect.
