Enthusiastic about Genie+ touring

maybe this post should be changed to is anyone enthusiastic about Disney anymore. ive been feeling lately that if you say anything positive or 'look at the bright side' of anything disney it's met with great disdain on the boards, comments, etc. Everyone is just hating on Disney itself, disney genie plus is just the last straw of it all. makes me sad actually. i get why, i even agree with so much of it, but it makes me feel upset i guess, kind of down, because it's the only thing that's my hobby i guess that i love so much.

Disney is a for profit, private corporation. For both good and bad, myself included, many of us have way too much emotion invested.
If the product is no longer appealing, don’t buy it, spend your vacation dollars elsewhere.
Disney doesn’t actually “owe” customers anything, and the public doesn’t owe Disney anything.

I guess I'm in that club, I keep tabs on the past trips and have spent a lot of money (as have many others here, probably much more) and I keep watching the costs go up and the value and enjoyment of the trips going down. Seems sad to chip away at the AP value, as those holders are probably some of the most loyal guests.

Sorry to say but I've just lost that lovin' feelin' and have a trip in a couple weeks and it's gonna be our last for a while (maybe ever if we're not feeling the magic anymore as why spend al that $$$), not sure when but DW and I are just no longer eagerly looking forward to the next trip like we always used to be.

You could look on the bright side. If people really hate Genie so much, they won't add it or will reluctantly add it for part of their trip. That means more G+ availability for us. Bwahahahaha

I thought this was the “Enthusiastic about Genie+” thread? Your post belongs on the Genie+ thread where the posters are p!$$!ng and moaning about it.
Then maybe the op should have just asked “are you enthusiastic about Genie”
Instead of saying they were shocked at the negativity and accusing those people of just being reluctant to change.
If you are going to come up with your own reasons for why someone else feels a certain way you should expect them to correct you when you are wrong.
Feel free to add your enthusiasm about it though, nobody is going to tell you to go to another thread

As I've said, it's not something that's been free for a decade. It's something new that Disney has never offered before.
Something free was discontinued -- I get being upset about that.
But what's being offered isn't the same thing, they aren't slapping a price tag on FP+. You aren't now paying extra for the "privilege" of having to play your entire trip 60+ days in advance, paying extra to be limited to a single Tier-1 FP, etc.

The ability to digitally book ride reservations, same day, as you go, with tons of same day availability... that's never ever been offered at WDW before. It has been offered at Disneyland -- and they charged for it. (the digital booking aspect has been charged at Disney for several years).
The jury is still out on "tons of same day availability". We shall see. If there is, then I like the new system, except having to pay for Tier one rides that can only be accessed by scoring a boarding pass.

The more I read about Genie+, I'm beginning to think it may be better than FP+ if it works out that I can secure LL into the night. If it works this way, I'll be glad to use it, at least at MK. Since I love Disney so much I want to continue to be excited for my trip. I'm brining a newbie with me and I want him to get excited and love it as much as I do, so I'm hoping this will be a new worthwhile feature because I want to continue to love my experience. In life, we have to figure out how to enjoy things that change because change is an inevitable part of life. Believe me, I loved FP+ and all the planning ahead and getting what I wanted, I just choose to accept the new change and will try to make the best of it.

I get up about 8am...or later..and I am dam_ tired of learning new things over and over...and talk about cost...AP's ,tix ,food ,transportation from airport,Genie...up charge...you are guessing at $20 it may be much more....As a DVC owner who takes 8-12 people every other year...this hurts....will just have to skip YS or Cali Grill maybe eat in villa more,go less often...or the relatives will have to pay more....

I believe that's exactly what people with a strict budget will end up doing.

If someone is happy with getting only 1-2 true FPs per day for "free" instead of getting 4-5 true FPs per day for $15, they are perfectly entitled to that opinion. I'm not shocked.

I am saying, the fee is for a vastly superior experience.
If you were only getting 1-2 true FPs for free then you didn't know how to properly use FP+. My FP+ experience has been damn near perfect every trip. I don't expect a vastly superior experience because there's not much room for improvement over what my past experiences have been. And being able to *choose* a time slot instead of taking whatever is available next works much better for *me*.

And now I have to pay extra.

So you could pre-book FPs for Smuggler’s run, Runaway Railroad and Slinky dog all for the same day?

no… the system only let you pre-book 1 of those 3 per day.

At Epcot, you could only get 1 out of Soarin, Test Track and Frozen.

That’s not me using the system wrong. That’s how the system worked — only 1 tier-1 attraction could be booked per day.

This is something that I've been pondering. The new system doesn't seem to work as well at Epcot. We'd still only have 1 tier 1 attraction. If there are 2 paid attractions (maybe TT and Frozen) then everyone will be trying to get Soarin' as their first Genie pick. I can't see people booking Figment, then LWtL, then Nemo, then Soarin', then 3 Caballeros. The other attractions would have shorter lines,, so it wouldn't make sense to book anything else. A good number of people would enter at opening, book a reservation for Soarin', wait in the standby line another tier 1 ride, then do the other less crowded rides. If everyone is booking Soarin' starting at 7am, will it be booked into the evening or even sold out? I suppose we could skip adding on Genie for our Epcot days, but then we wouldn't get any passes.

You’re forgetting Ratatouille opening very soon, and Guardians of the Galaxy in the coming months.

Agreed that G+ could be problematic if there is only 1 premium attraction. That could indeed be a problem at Animal Kingdom.

At Epcot, TT and Rat will likely be the initial pay attractions. So G+ priority would be split between Soarin and Frozen. After GOTG opens, then GOTG and Rat will be the pay attractions but Soarin, TT and Frozen will all be on G+. Splitting the morning crowd between 3 attractions will create plenty of availability into the mid to late afternoon, even the evening.

I already admitted cost is a very valid reason not to be excited. It’s just about the only significant reason.

But complaining about the cost is a bit useless to me. Anyone who can’t afford park hoppers has a downgraded experience compared to someone who can afford it. Anyone who can’t afford signature meals has a downgraded experience compared to someone who can afford them. Anyone who can’t afford VIP tours, deluxe accommodations, etc.
We're not talking about a downgraded experience compared to *someone else*. We're talking about a downgraded experience compared to *our own* past experiences.

That’s not true at all.
Given a choice of FOP immediately, skipping the Queue, or spending an extra 15 minutes to see the queue, I’d like to see the queue.
Realistically, though, that's not the choice.

Given a choice of FoP immediately, skipping the queue, or spending an extra 1.5 hours to see the queue, would you still like to see the queue?

Disagree. I expect the new system to be a huge upgrade from my own past experience. Feel free to speak for yourself, but don’t speak for me.
I see the new system as likely a vast upgrade.

Old system: rope drop or book 64+ days out. But since I didn’t book AK 64 days out.. it was rope drop or 2 hour wait.

New system — rope drop or 2 hour wait or pay.

So this new system is 1000000x better. I can get a pass to FOP, if I feel like it, without having to book a long trip and reserve a FP at the end of the trip. I can just make the decision the same day. I can still ride it for free at rope drop… I can consider the lime… I can pay. My options are greatly improved.
