EE and RnRC compared to BTMR?

DS 8.5 loves BTMR. He also absolutely loves Primeval Whirl. Add Buzz to that list and you have his three favorite rides at Disney. TT is also pretty high on his list of favorite rides. Do you think he might be ready for EE or RnRC? Those seem so "grown-up" to me. He is not the type to have to try something new. He is very content to keep riding his old favorites, but I think our March '09 trip might be the last one for a couple of years so I hate for him to miss the opportunity. What do you all think?:confused3

Thanks!

My impression of EE is BTMRR on steroids (and backwards). I was a upside-down coaster chicken, but RnR is good because it's dark so you do the loops before you know that they're coming.

He will probably be fine on both.

If he's tall enough, by all means get him on both rides! They're a lot of fun. Just warn him to rest his head back against the seat when RnR is about to take off. If his head is away from the head rest the acceleration will force it back at the beginning.

My youngest son was 7 when he first went on both of those rides. Everest is one of his favorites at WDW now.

I will just tell you about my experience this past Sept. with my DS8. He had never really been on a rollercoaster before so we started out easy....Splash Mountain. He loved it wanted to do it another 5 times. Then on to BTMR. He absolutely loved it ...went on that another 4 times. He went on TT and Soarin and loved those( I know they're not roller coasters but they are thrill type rides.) He said he wanted to go on Space Mountain. He couldn't wait , he was so excited. All 5 of us went on , Me, DH, DS8, DS13, DD5. All came off fine except DS8, he went into a panic attack. :scared1: We calmed him down, but for the rest of our vacation he would not go on any thrill rides, not even the ones he had already been on and loved. Now my DH and DS13 did go on EE and they said it was a lot scarier than SM. And even my DS13 won't go on RnRC because he doesn't like loops. Only you know your son and what you think he can handle. But my DS8 gettting that upset by SM was an absolute shock to me. :confused3

With EE you can see part of the ride. Show DS the part of the ride he can see and let him decide.

If he decides not to, don't force it. I would use gentle persuasion but if they are adamant, so be it.

Our oldest has been going on the big roller coasters since he was 4yo (42 inches).

My DS8 loves Everest, we went on again and again but he wouldn't try RNR
with me, I think next time
However, I went to ride RNR by myself while DH stayed with kids
I struck up a conversation with a Dad and his about 7-8 yr old daughter
and she was really scared to ride. When we boarded, they were behind me
and I even heard her start to cry. Well, we took off and when we stopped
she was laughing and saying how much she loved it.

If he loves TOT, I think he will like EE and he maybe even willing to give RNR a try. 8 1/2 is a good age to try those thrill rides. IMO
Have fun!:wizard:

We are in the same dilema with our DD8. She is now 9 and we are going back in May. She LOVED Splash Mountain, BTMRR, TT, and Soarin'. This year, we want her to try EE, but I don't think she's quite ready for RnRC. EE is really great for the visuals, and you don't have that one "big drop" that scares most people who do not like coasters.

I know that Space Mountain can be really scary for kids, mainly because you have to sit alone. I think EE is just a natural step up from BTMRR.
