I've gotten two emails in the past 24 hours where it looks like it comes from ebay as a question. It looks totally legit, but it is definitely not.

Hello , What happened with that item?. Please respond I'm desperate!.

Thank you,
sydatkinson

There's a link to "Respond". I looked at the message source and it goes to a site that is not ebay. The images in the email all are legit, it's the "Respond" link that is bogus. They are trying to get your login info. So beware! I left them a nice fake user and pass saying that they were busted (user: youare, password: sobusted) and I've forwarded the email to spoof@ebay.com.

And what first tipped me off that this was a scam? The email was sent to one of my 7 email accounts that isn't associated with ebay in any way.

So, be on the lookout for these bogus emails.

I've received two similar ones in the last few weeks. The first one said-Where is my item, respond or I will report you? The person who it was supposedly from, was a non-registered user on Ebay.

The second one said-What payment do you prefer?

Forwarded both to Ebay and of course they came back, not being sent from Ebay.

Another way to know it is not from Ebay, if it doesn't say:
Dear/To (Insert your own ebay name here).

The cons are getting clever! You just have to be vigilant and don't let your guard down. Always forward these bogus emails to spoof@ebay.com. Their fraud team appreciates being able to perhaps trace them.

SSA has 1 going around as well looks real ligit and they want your SSA# and credit info.

Still another way to spot a fake is the fact that an authentic eBay e-mail will also send a duplicate into your Messages folder in "my eBay."

Yet another one, this one in a different form and with the heading eBay Safe Harbour.

TKO NOTICE: Suspicious Activity.

Dear Customer , [notice the bad comma location and the use of a generic "Customer" rather than a username]

I did a WHOIS lookup on the registrant of that website. It was created on January 31, 2006. I got his email address and sent him a nice note alerting him to the fact that his website was sending out phishing attempts. I told him that if he was not aware of it he should look into it and if he WAS aware, then he needs a good lawyer or a one-way ticket out of the country. :teeth:

Just another warning. So tired of this junk they send (and again, to another email address not even associated with ebay in any way). :headache:

I have gotten two that look like question from buyer and then it says why are you telling others your the seller and not me or something to that effect...when I look up the username it doesnt even exist and the auction isnt any auction I have ever had...I reported it to Ebay and they told me it was a scam in attempt to get personal information and to just delete them
