Eating in the Lobby while at BCV?

When we went down to BCV in June we found that people were eating their meals (mainly breakfast) in the lobby of BC. We also saw them sitting in the windows just outside the marketplace eating breakfast. Now this may not bother some people and I am prepared for those who don't mind, but I must say that it bothered us a bit.

First of all, there are a few tables and chairs provided to eat your meal at, either outside or in the Marketplace (albeit a few). Of course, you can take the food back to your room or villa. Secondly, we tend to think of the lobby as a place to relax, meet your party, wait to be seated at Cape May's, etc., so watching people eat their meals kind of spoils that relaxed feeling.

A couple of times, we actually saw leftover garbage from someone's breakfast on a few of the tables in the lobby. To us, this just brings down the value of a deluxe resort.

BCV is our home resort and we love it! But we are concerned that this may become a bigger problem in the future. After all, if you are staying deluxe, you do expect some level of proper etiquette, for lack of better words. I know I sound like a resort snob, but has anyone else noticed this? ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Didn't bother us a bit. We chose the BCV for its barefoot-in-the-lobby ambiance.

Just my .02 cents...

I have noticed that more and more people leave their trash on tables assuming someone (perhaps a trash/custodian genie) :genie: will clean up after them.

There is an attitude... "It's all about me," that is rearing it's ugly head all over. A number of people think they come first and to heck with everyone else. They don't care if it inconveniences someone else or it is not nice to someone else.

I'm a high school teacher and let me tell you.... there are some really great kids out there, but there are a lot of really yucky kids too!! Just the other day at the mall, I yelled (not really yelled, but used my teacher voice) at a group of teens that left their trash after eating. They just think they have no responsibility-- it's somebody elses problem!!

I really hope that leaving common areas messy after using them doesn't become the norm at DVC resorts. You would think people would take pride of ownership and keep the place nice. It is a little difficult with BWV, WLV & BCV because they share common areas with the hotel.

Maybe the "Don't be a litter bug" slogan needs to be posted!!

P.S. I kind of go the other extreme. When the baby goobers all over the floors at full service restaurants, I'm the Mommy on the ground cleaning up before we leave!! :tilt:

Me too!!! I have had SOO many waiters make comments about how NO one ever does this...but, I waited tables for many years (not to mention being a flight attendant for 8 years)...my baby's mess is just that...MY baby's mess. I clean it up at home, so why would I expect anyone to do it for me in public.

Lesli54...thanks for posting this. I can honestly say that I didn't notice this when were at BC in May, but I wasn't in the lobby during breakfast time either. But, it would definitely bother me. I have kind of a love/hate relationship with the "elite" attitude of some CM's at the BC (especially when I perceive they are looking down on me because I am DVC)...but, part of the reason BCV appealed to us was the "upscale" feeling of the resort (please don't flame me for this...it is just my opinion...I'm sure other owners feel differently about this...but, I like it and that is why I bought there). I would be a little "miffed" if I saw people treating that beautiful elegant lobby like a fast food restaurant. I sure don't want to see that light-colored furniture covered with food and ice cream.

I agree that the resort has a "casual elegance" about it...but, please eat at a table, or go outside.

JMHO,

I did see this and at first, it threw me, because you don't expect to see people eating a full fledged breakfast in the lobby! I mean coffee pot and newspaper open right in front of of Cape May.

Since we eat breakfast in our room, we are normally not in the lobby in the morning but we received an invite to the managers meeting at that little bar next to Ariel's for 8:30 am so I was passing thru.

Cape May Cafe was at capacity and much of the wait had spilled over into the lobby. I saw the area behind the Bell Desk still serves breakfast and that is why you have breakfast lobby dining. So it must be completely legit and encouraged, for people to do this and I guess it would add to the casual elegance beach theme of the BC. The lobby was always hustly-bustly, which we liked, especially coming from the villa side whose common areas were always empty.

I saw the swimsuits and barefeet in the lobby, but I insisted my boys wear shoes and shirts (coverup for me and cabana pants) any time we went to SAB. You have to be dressed to dine at B&C anyway (shoes and shirts required) and we always eat there so we need our clothes.

I think one does have to accept that although beautiful and elegant, BCV is a casually themed resort and not at all like YC, GF or BWV in theming. People should still clean up after themselves, but I know many times at WDW the service is encouraged.

Actually, eating one's breakfast in the lobby of a hotel has, I think, become the norm. Even many so-called deluxe hotels offer continental breakfasts or full breakfasts right in their lobby areas nowadays and I think people have become very used to doing this and don't give it a second thought.

We typically eat breakfast in the room, and are rarely out that early. ;)However, the whole eating in the lobby would definitely bug me, especially if people are leaving their trash behind. That is just plain rude.

It is? Gee, they seem to have tables and be bringing out coffee pots. We went to a four star hotel for our anniversary and people were having cocktails and snacks in the lobby.

And a four star hotel is not McDonalds. The lobby should be staffed properly so that the moment you get up, unobtrusive staff whisks away your plate. The last think I want is self service trash containers filled with food.

I probably sound like even more of a resort snob than you do.

Seeing people eating in the lobby wouldn't bother me, but seeing people leave behind trash does. Even at the counter service places you find people leaving their trays on the tables because they are too lazy to walk the 3-4 feet to dump them and leave the table clean for the next party. Very sad.

As already mentioned, that area behind Bell Services still offers breakfast, and there is very little seating in there, maybe for a dozen people at the most, so I think the spillover goes to the lobby. It doesn't bother me to see folks eating there in the lobby. They should clean up after themselves though.

As far as the new Marketplace, I would think that getting breakfast there and eating in the Solarium would be just lovely. I have always thought that room was very attractive.

Eating in the lobby doesn't bother me at all, but they trash leftover would!

I think the comedian Gallagher said it best. "If the trash cans have the words 'Thank You' printed on them....you're supposed to pick up your own trash"!!

AMEN! It's nice to hear that there is someone like me out there!!! I HATE IT when folks go ANYWHERE and think that they are there to be waited on, so make the biggest mess you want, because we are walking away and leaving it where it falls!!!!!

Respect where you are and your surroundings, treat it like it's "really home" and remember, to be kind to the folks that have to come behind you, be it Burger King, or the nicest place at WDW, and clean up your mess.

I wouldn't mind someone eating in a lobby, but I would be FURIOUS if they left their mess!!!! Like you, while I am not a teacher (My DD is) I think I could mimick the voice and I'd speak up and nicely say, "excuse me, but I think you left something behind!"

Yeah, you do. Sorry, but it's true.

Thats fine. I kind of feel lucky to be able to be a hotel snob.

The Villas are a timeshare, but the Beach Club itself is supposed to be a fine hotel. When I pay $400 a night for the room, I don't expect to bus my own dishes. Never had to at any other four star hotel I've been at. That's supposed to be one of the differences between staying at POP and staying at the Y&BC.

Throwing away trash from breakfast that you have chosen to eat in a lobby is not the same as having to bus for yourself. You are not in a restaurant.

I agree with almost everyone. It's fine to eat there but PICK UP!!! It is inconsiderate not to do so. :sad2:

Another thought. Some people may have just arrived from overseas or the West coast, be starving and not yet able to get into a room or villa.

BTW, a couple of you that continental breakfast is still being offered in that little bar area. When we were there in May, I didn't think it was? Are these more recent experiences or did I just miss it.

I'm sorry, I saw posts about tables and coffee pots and full fledged breakfasts. I was assuming we weren't talking about leaving your wrapper from your pop tart on the table.

Pop tart wrappers and disposable coffee cups and napkins should, of course, be thrown away.

::yes:: ::yes::

I think the plates are the paper ones. I was wondering about the coffee pots. I wonder if some are making a pot in their room and taking it to the lobby while the rest of the family sleeps?

I agree with BCV23. You are not in a restaurant, but in the lobby of a hotel, which is still considered a common area. How would you feel with paying $400/night for a room and you walked into the lobby of the hotel and saw garbage everywhere. I don't think it's too much trouble to take the extra 30 seconds, walk over to a garbage receptacle and place your trash in it.
