Eat at home

Just curious...has anyone noticed weight loss w/ eating at home ? Years ago I worked w/ a family that had to drastically curtail their budget. No meals outside of the house, not much processed food. The parents lost about 20 pounds apiece in the first 3 months. They weren't dieting, although both wanted to lose weight. The home cooking, in spite of the fact that there was more than enough food, was so much lower in calories that they lost weight w/o trying.

I have lost a little weight. Since last sping I have lost about 25 pounds and have actually mananged to keep it off by paying more attention to what I am eating and eating more at home.

Hey just doing a check in how is everybody doing? Did anyone listen to last weeks podcast with Teresa budget segment she mentioned this thread! I hope this helps a lot of people to save money. Anyways last week was good we had plenty of food and only spent 67$ at the store last week. Still have not gone today due to snow my husband took my car. UGH to early for snow!

This week I plan on

Monday chicken noodle soup
Tuesday beef bake
Wednesday hummmm
Thursday chicken bake
Friday pizza
Saturday Ali's 8th birthday party!!!! I am making a ziti with sauce and meatballs my friend is making a salad and I am buying lunch meat and bulkies.

Have a great week!

I did horrible this last week. I was home alone and ended up eating out a few times because I couldn't stand being here by myself. So, things ended up being juggled around and I actually have a meal I never made.

So, I am trying to get back on track this week!

Today: Chicken squares, corn dip, and chips (moved over from last week)
Tuesday: Fried egg sandwiches and Deli sides
Wednesday: Beef Short Ribs, Mashed Potatoes, some sort of veggie
Thursday: At the boyfriend's parents for dinner
Friday: Greek salad and falafel
Saturday: Not home
Sunday: Chicken chimichangas, mexican rice, guacamole

This is my first time making Short Ribs, falafel, OR chimichangas so I am super excited. It's of week of new recipes!

Going shopping soon hopefully lol. My normal shopping day is Wednesday.

Saturday Chicken and Dumplings
Sunday Chicken fajitas with homemade fajita mix
Monday sloppy joes with homemade sloppy joe mix
Chicken dish of some sort
Tuesday our new favorite tortilla chicken soup

This thread inspired me to cut my dining out budget and make the most out of eating at home. I lost about 5 pounds. Unfortunately, I haven't kept them off. So here I am again....

Monday--Texas beans, cornbread & steamed brocolli

Tuesday--Figgy chicken w/ polenta & veggies

Wednesday--Speghetti w/ meatballs & steam cauliflower

Thursday--Breakfast for dinner: hashbrown casserole, eggs, fruit

Friday--Bean burgers w/ home fries & roasted carrots

Saturday--My night off! Noodle World or Thai take-out

Lily-falafel sounds great! I'll be very eager to hear how it goes!

Making million dollar chicken tonight. I hope it's great, cause it was very easy. Brussel sprouts and rice to go with. Trying to lose weight and it's just depressing....

We went grocery shopping today and only had to buy milk, fruits, and veggies. We still had a ton of meat left from last week when I was sick that we had frozen.

Tonight we had triple grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup.

I have been cooking all day, but now have snacks for the rest of the week. I made a batch of gluten free cookies, a batch of regular cookies, gluten free pumpkin bars, and I have turkey tenderloin the oven now for dinner.

But I'm glad to know that I have a bunch of munchies and should have some turkey leftover for lunch tomorrow.

Yum. Doesn't sound real healthy but it does sound really tasty! I'm not sure what I'm making for dinner tonight, it's just me and the kids, maybe breakfast for dinner although I'm suddenly in the mood for taco pie!;)

Your too funny :) Breakfast is always a great idea!

I'm amazed that so many of you can have a weeks worth of menus planned. I'm doing better at cooking at home, but I have a foggy idea of what's in my freezer and some ideas of what to make. I swear most days it's a challenge for me just to think of what I want that night! You guys are awesome!

For tonight, I have a chicken soup going in the slow cooker (it's a gymnastics night, so I want something ready when we get home). And I have some gluten free corn bread baking in the oven. Not too sure how that will turn out, since I've never made bread and I improvised the ingredients since I didn't have everything in the pantry... I'm just hoping it's edible. :scared1:
