Earthquake

Wasn't the sound weird????? That freaked me out a lot... that and my windows rattling and the walls moving! They are renovating the floor above ours and there have been some mishaps.....my first reaction was WHAT have they done now, then my boss yelled "RUN" so out we went....

Having wine ANd beer now - lo! :goodvibes:thumbsup2

It was really weird- it almost reminded me of when the ships back up and there is that shudder.
Our building was built a long time ago and first used as a nursing home and will be torn down when the building next to us is completed - so it is not the most sound building in Charlottesville
We have been having aftershocks all day- last one about two hours ago- hopefully it is done!

Personally didn't feel it, but friends who work in downtown in the taller buildings did and they were evacuated - said it felt like they were on a boat.....this is in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada - about an hour drive from the US border where the I-95 ends in Maine.

Felt it here in Southeast Ohio along the river. DD15 and I just looked at eachother, and she asked "what was that". By that time I realized we had an earthquake. Weird!:scared1:

Definitely felt it here, about 70 miles east of Pittsburgh. The house was moving! We happened to all be in the family room. DH thought it was his mother walking around upstairs, :lmao:

I thought it was an underground gas explosion from the new fracking drilling method for natural gas in the Marcellus shale.

DS got it right - an earthquake!

So funny because I looked right at the family and said in amazement, the HOUSE is MOVING....and they couldn't deny it! So weird! Bear with us CA people, we have never experienced this.

Thankful it seems no one was hurt. Hope that's my first and last earthquake of any size!

No worries East Coasters!!! We CA people are giggling at the brou ha ha that you guys are making of it  - just like the way you justifiably laugh at us when it drizzles and our media creates "STORM WATCH"!!! :rolleyes1

My thoughts to everyone who has experienced this earthquake. If it was your first it can be scary or an experience but it's way out of the ordinary. I hope things settle down for you soon and if you have kids they are okay. Kids can be really unsettled after having earthquakes.

I thought it was cool after I knew what it was:cool1:. I would never want to be in a bigger earthquake though.

I agree....now think of your self as a third generation native California yesterday in VA telling your staff not to run outside! Everyone survived. I must say the radius in which it was felt and minor damage done was greater than a 5.9 in CA. I heard on the news it had to do with the rocks/earth on east coast vs west coast.

I was in bed. Recovering from surgery. My son had just got home from school. I felt the bed rocking so I looked and was about to yell at son for shaking bed. Realizing he wasn't there, I got up. I felt the swaying and heard a boom. At first I thought it was construction across the street. I ran into the living room and asked son did he feel it. He said yeah. I was wondering if it was an earthquake. I called Mom who lives in next building. Sure enough, she said it was already on the news.

Mind you we live in 27 story buildings. I am on 10 and I felt it. My mom is on 18 and she didn't feel a thing. Go figure.

So son decides to say mom get dressed lets go. lets go. Then he says I guess we have to move to China.:lmao: I told him son, its worse there.:rotfl2:

I'm not too familiar with that backin up boat feeling (but will be after our cruise week after next!! :thumbsup2) My work building is from the 1800's so I can feel your pain. We had a big aftershock (4.2) and it really spooked my younger son - glad when this all stops. But, then we have to deal w/ Irene - eek!

We felt it here in Northern NJ. My hanging plants were swinging and my house shook pretty good. My son works in Manhatten and stuff fell off walls in his building. After 9/11 it was a little freaky for city folks initially, at least for his office building folk. Gawker had a funny article online yesterday about Californians laughing at us East Coasters..don't think I can post the link here but a quote: This from a California sports guy.."Hey east coasters: welcome to our world and what we live with everyday in California. Stay Safe."... from Gawker "Hey, Californians: Shut up and let us wallow in our abject terror." LOL:lmao:

LOL!!!!!! I know, I am used to my hurricanes, but no more earthquakes , PLEASE!!!!! Hope you are healing well!:thumbsup2:goodvibes

Feeling better thanks. Had Gall Bladder removed last Monday. Back to work this monday.

I wish the West Coasters pipe it down. There are a lot of us that never experienced being in a earthquake. Now we know what to expect. Besides they said a west coast earthquake is very different from a east coast. :goodvibes

It was very scary for those of us in office buildings in Manhattan a few blocks from the WTC site. We didn't know it was an earthquake. It felt just like the explosion from the planes entering the Towers on 9/11. After walking down 18 flights of stairs, walking down the street a few blocks, we finally found out that it was an earthquake with an epicenter in Virigina.

Well we east coasters are not used to such events, and the ghost of 9/11 still figures prominently whenever a building is swaying/shaking for an unknown reason. I am not sure those living further west have the same reaction, or at least as deeply. And on a lighter note, are these west coasters having a good laugh at our expense some of the same people who were freaking out over a freeway closing last month? Can you say "carmegeddon"?

Good point! Glad you are doing well! :)

When I heard it was felt in NYC the first thing I thought was how sad that is... I wish people there (and everywhere, ofcourse) would never have to confront any scary noises, rocking buildings, etc. etc. I am extra sorry that you guys had to deal with this.

Soooooooooooooooooo funny and true! :rotfl::lmao:
