Dyson Vaccums

I am looking into buying a new vacuum too. I would love a Dyson, but I don't know if I am willing to spend $500 on a vacuum right now. And the fact that it's bagless worries me. I swore the next vacuum I got would not be bagless. I think it is such a mess - and I get sick everytime I clean it out.

How do you deal with the Dyson being bagless. Don't you get a big cloud of dust trying to empty it out? Or is there some magic trick to it?

The first time I had to empty my sister's I was worried about the dust as well. It wasn't a problem. I was expecting a huge cloud of dust to come out of the trash can when I hit the button but it didn't.

Note for those wanting to buy one from Linens 'N Things or Bed Bath & Beyond:

USE THE COUPONS!!!

Even though the BB&B coupons say they can't be used on a Dyson they CAN! Make use of that discount!!!!!

I have the Dyson Animal on my registry. I doubt it will be bought, but I can use the percent off at the end and maybe some gift cards. I can not WAIT to get it!

How much is your percent off at the end? 10%? If so, find a coupon and use it instead. :sunny:

I have two dogs, including a golden who sheds a lot, and 3 cats. Are most people saying that the basic yellow dyson does as well as the animal? Does it have the hose that reaches up stairs?

We have the basic yellow and while I cannot compare it to the animal I can say that it works great for us! We have a bassett hound and a cat and our ds is highly allergic to the cat and dog and with a combination of the dyson and meds we have been able to keep the animals :thumbsup2 We also have a split level type home and I can vacuum both the upstairs and downstairs and leave the dyson on the main level. Hope this helps :goodvibes

I'm not positive, so don't quote me on it, but I think the only difference is with the purple animal model there is an extra attachment used for furniture and helping with hair :confused3 . I'd have to check my manual for sure.

SO I still don't know if I need to spend this much $$....help me... :confused3
I dont' have any animals in the house only kiddos - can't ant other vacuum clean the carpet? I understand why it's great w/indoor animals but why is it great from someone like me? (and no the kids aren't allowed on the carpet w/food) I just can't figure out how to justify it... :confused3

I got my DC15 Total Clean (Animal) ball the other day. I do have a dog, but in one room alone it pulled a good CUP plus of dirt/dust out of the carpet. :crazy2: Now it had been 7 days since I last vacuumed with my Oreck XL, but we even moved all the furniture and did what we thought was a really thorough job with that Oreck. But my point is the carpet didn't look that bad and there is no way that much dust could accumulate in a week.

Previous to the Oreck, which lasted 13 months, I had a big ole heavy Hoover Windtunnel. There is no comparison between the Oreck/Hoover and Dyson. Dyson is truly amazing. Worth every penny.

ITA....we do not have pets either and the amount of dirt/dust the Dyson picked up out of my carpet was amazing. The canister was full...I thought we were clean but that just grossed me out.
We do not allow the kids in the family room with food either and I had just had the carpet steam cleaned 1 month prior to getting the Dyson.

So my dyson came yesterday and DH and I were fighting over who got to use it. We only did a few rooms and had to empty our trash basket twice! DH even said to me that it was a smart purchase.

Something to consider for those who are having sticker shock and can't justify the $500+ price tag.

I would imagine if the vaccuum pulls up THAT much dirt and hair, that your carpet will last MUCH longer than if you use a regular vaccuum. Replaceing carpet is very expensive, this could save you much more than the cost of the vaccumm in the long run!

I want a Dyson so badly, but we're paying down the CC's right now, and decided to spend the tax refund on a trip to DL. Maybe DH's next bonus....

How often do y'all vacuum??? I obviously dont' do it enough (dont' want to confess how little I vacuum)....

So maybe all this dust around here is coming from the carpet - eh?

Normally twice a week, and then I spot clean as needed. Otherwise, I get dog hair all over my clothes from sitting on his couch, his chair, his beds. :dog2:

For me to vacuum a cup of dust from ONE room with the Dyson, was distressing to say the least.

Undoubtedly, much of your dust is coming from your carpets. Who knew? :confused3

OH MY!!! Today I just had to go shopping & headed to check out the vacuums - left without getting one - told dh about it & he said lets go look so we did! AND we bought one! We got the Dyson with the ball....of course I wasn't sure about spending the $$ - that's why I didnt' make the purchase the 1st time I was there - but he said go for it (after I told him the opinions here)

AND we vacummed tonight - mind you I already vacummed the living room this a.m... WELL - we now have a gray cat living inside the Dyson.... :rotfl2: I'm sure I could save that dust & make something cook with it = can you knit with it!?!?!

Dh & I are BEYOND impressed with it! Who knew that there was that much junk in the carpet that was never picked up!! SCARY to think we are breathing that stuff!!!

WE ARE SOLD ON the Dyson now!!!!

But one other question - how often do you vacuum now that you have this machine - do you still do it 2x's a week or do you use it less? What's really recommended anyway???

Congrats!! :woohoo: Isn't that gray stuff crazy?

I'm still doing about every other day or two because of the dog, but it's sure taking me less time. :thumbsup2 I think it really varies from house to house how often you need to vacuum. If the dog wasn't here, I would let it go as long as possible.

I am not even in the market for a new vacuum, but after reading this thread I may have to find a way to convince DH that I need this product! You guys are WAY better than any infomercial. :cheer2:

Just have to add... and I haven't read the whole thread...

WE LOVE OURS! My parents bought DH the ball for christmas. A woman in the parking lot told them that it is the best ever especially if you have pets. But, IT IS! Our two cats seemed to have hidden a few dozen kittens in our carpet! :lmao:

I've read about the refurbs at Amazon. Where else are people finding good deals on Dyson's? Also, about the Linens and Things coupon (20%!) - where are those found?

Apparently I NEED a Dyson.

Thanks,
Ronda
