Dyson Vaccums

Jennobrn, I have had my Dyson for over two years and it works as well today as it did on day one. I have two cats and two DGD's who are always over making a mess of crumbs. Not only do I vacuum up a lot of cat hair but a lot of cat litter that gets kicked out of the box. I vacuum at least once a day and have let my DS and DD borrow it so it has really gotten a workout. I just recently read the instructions (lol) and realized that there is a filter that needs to be rinsed every six months. I just did that a few days ago expecting to see it ruined. Imagine my surprise when it was hardly even dirty!

Unlike other vacuums, you do not have to replace the filter. That can be very expensive, around $50 every six months. I feel that more than makes up for the cost of the vacuum. And you can find a sale if you are patient.

Geez, I think Dyson should hire me to do a commercial!

2 years now with my Dyson and I Love it. I have 3 cats and 3 Newfoundland dogs so we have PET HAIR !! Well thats not true really because my Dyson picks it all up.

I LOVE MY DYSON I REALLY REALLY DO !!!!

ok sell me on the Dyson = I DON"T have any animals inside - just my kiddos & they only eat in the kitchen & we take our shoes off @ the door - is there REALLY a need for me to spend this much $ on a vacuum??? I have an Eureka (it's probably 8 yrs old - but didn't use it much last house 'cause of hardwood floors)...it is making noises so it won't last too much longer...

Has Consumer Reports rated Dyson?

Which model is the best for me? I could care less about the stripes in the carpet -cause I don't vacuum (or walk for that matter) in a straight line :lmao:

WE DO have an issue with dust here so maybe this vacuum would help with the dust??? If THAT"S the case then it's worth WAY more money!

And no - I don't vacuum regualry so I'd have to use it daily to justify the $ I'm afraid .....

1. Bagless. In concept bagless seems dirty, allergenic, and messy. When it's all contained in a bag isn't it more convienient not to mention neater?

There are instructions on how to use a bag in the canister if your concerned about containg the dust.

I've only had mine for a couple of months but I do LOVE the vacuum, and it would be hard pressed for me to say I LOVED anything that contains cleaning. It really grosses me out to see how much dust, dirt this thing picks up in a short period of time. I would never thought we were that dirty! :rotfl2:

I am thinking about buying a Dyson, but not sure what model to buy. We have 1 dog right now, but will be getting another dog within a year. And I have hardwood floors, so I also need one that will work on them.

I’ve had my Dyson for 6 years. I bought it in England and had it shipped when we moved to the US. It still picks up dirt and the dog hair (she immigrated too).

I have to run it thru a power converter, so it’s not like it was when it had 210 volts. But still does a fabulous job. I guess my point is I LOVE my Dyson and it still is going strong. How long have they been on sale in the States?

I have the cheapest Dyson, the yellow one without the ball. The salesman recommended it. He said it would work as good as the Dyson Animal even with two cats. It works great. I would not spend extra on the Dyson Animal.

We don't have any animals - just messy kids. I bought the yellow one two years ago when we were in the US (they don't sell them here in Canada - don't know why??). I LOVE IT!

We have the basic yellow and have had it going on 3 years. I have never been so pleased with a purchase :thumbsup2 If only our van or other high dollar items would run as nice! My son has terrible allergies to everything including the dog and cat. Our allergist told us to lose the dog and cat unless we could control the hair and dander. Since having the dyson my son rarely has any indoor allergy problems. As far as emptying the cannister I just wrap a plastic target bag around the cannister and pull the trigger. As soon as it has emptied I tie up the target bag and into the trash it goes. My son has even been in the room when I have emptied and I do not remember one time when he sneezed! I would also like to say that since we have had ours I know of 3 friends and family members who purchased one after using our Dyson. It is like part of the family, I will be terribly sad the day we have to replace ours - with another Dyson of course ;)

Now this is the personal experience I like to hear! Thanks for sharing! If it can handle 3 Newfs...that I am truly impressed! :worship:

Oh, please, please, please post an update comparing the two. I've been debating between the two and would love to know which is better. I know people who love both, especially the Dyson, but no one who has used both. Does that make sense?

I just got my DC15 Ball and vacuumed the living room. I have never been so repulsed in my entire life! I previously killed a Oreck XL and a Hoover Windtunnel. Neither of them hold a candle to the Animal. And this thing is soooo easy to move around.

I turned it on and before I even moved it there was a cloud of dust and hair. :scared: I vacuumed the room, emptied the canister, then took out the attachment that lindalinda told us about and AHHHHH! It was like I poured some kind of magic potion on the floor and a new dog started growing up through the carpet. :crazy2: :scared1: :crazy2:

I thought it looked clean when I vacuumed the first time. This thing is awesome!!! :woohoo:

Mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow! It's sad how excited I am

Wow. You guys are getting me on the vacumn bandwagon. I have a Hoover Windtunnel and I'm not impressed with it. The filter screen is always clogging and therefore reduces suction. I recently bought a Hoover Rug steam cleaner and by the dirt and hair that came up out of my carpets, I'm convinced my Hoover vacumn just isn't doing the job correctly.

For those with the Dyson, are there any filter clogging issues? How abou\t when you empty the canister? The Windtunnel that I have is a mess to empty - especially when you try to get the dirt out of the Hepa filter area.

I just vacuumed....I just need to reiterate how much I love this vacuum!!
Everytime I use it gets so much stuff up! I spilled a canister of marbles the other day and a few were left under the table in the playroom...the Dyson sucked them up like they were dust bunnies! And the canister couldn't be easier to empty. I just lift the canister off the vacuum, hold it over my kitchen trash and press the red button to empty it. The bottom opens up and everything just falls into the trash.

Thank you oh, so much!! I guess it's a Dyson for me.

OK--I'm being lazy now. Someone compare the different models for me..???

We got The yellow Dyson DC07 for Christmas. It was a gift to each other:) We LOVE this vacuum. I ruin the belts on vacuums so fast because my long hair wraps around them and burns them out. Not the Dyson. It is amazing. We had just cleaned our carpets and it still got out so much dust and dirt! I will get other one if this one ever goes!

you guys have convinced me, but which model to get? That is the problem!
I've narrowed it down to 5 models:

DC07 red/purple with floor tool
DC14 All floors
DC14 Full access (best buy exlusive)
DC15 All Floors BALL
DC 15 Total Clean BALL

Do I pick one out of a hat? How do I know which one to get? :confused3

I went with the DC15 all floors ball model...we have mostly hardwood floors and I liked that it can zig zag to get in to funny angles and such. I went to Linen's and Things where they have floor models to check out. I was trying to decide between the DC07 red/purple, regular DC07 yellow and the DC15. I didn't like the floor tool as much as I thought I would. HTH

I am looking into buying a new vacuum too. I would love a Dyson, but I don't know if I am willing to spend $500 on a vacuum right now. And the fact that it's bagless worries me. I swore the next vacuum I got would not be bagless. I think it is such a mess - and I get sick everytime I clean it out.

How do you deal with the Dyson being bagless. Don't you get a big cloud of dust trying to empty it out? Or is there some magic trick to it?

I prefer bagless. I find them less messy than bags. Maybe I'm just not bag talented. :confused3 I just pull the canister out, place a plastic bag over the top and dump it upside down. After a few seconds when the dust has had time to settle, I remove the canister, tie the bag and throw it away. I know people who take it one step further and empty the canister outside.
