DVC Survey regarding perks

Took the survey:

1) rated photopass low -- shipping is $7 -- not much of a perk

2) Since I'm West Coaster, the WDW perks aren't very useful. When I get to WDW, I'm really about the parks, not the extra stuff. In our 3 trips to WDW, we've spent 1 evening @ DTD each trip -- not worth a big perk. If I want to see a Cirque show, I'll do it in another city, not on "Disney" time.

3) Once you have a DL annual pass, the DVC perks are useless, because the AP perks are better - including the AP renewal! I included that in the comments.

I would have like to have seen a World of Color priority seating perk, Fantasmic Dessert Seating Perk, One Night Club 33 Perk, etc. The Castle/Pirate suite stay for a night doesn't really do anything for me -- I dont' know -- I'm sure it would be hideously expensive, it's only for one night, you've got to move all your stuff in & out for the one night, etc, etc. I just have a hard time justifying that and I haven't even heard how big the fee would be yet. Oh and I mentioned the valet parking. While I was at it, I said that throwing a few perks at me, would NOT entice me to add-on, since they created a lot of distrust by yanking perks w/ no notice and monkeying around with the points charts for two years in a row.

By the way -- did anyone notice that free internet service is a perk in the survey!!!! What is that about? Holy cow! I have my own air card for dopey hotels that charge for internet, airports and the like, but come on!

I did express my overall dissatisfaction with the way Disney treats DVC members like cattle.

I may be wrong, but hasn't this come up before? I don't remember what it was in referene to or it may have just been speculation, but I remember this from something here

I took the survey yesterday. I gave the highest ratings to:

• Tiered recognition that provides increasing perks based on the number of points you own or refer - the more you own or refer, the more perks you receive
• Ability to reserve (for a fee) a one-night stay in the Cinderella Castle Suite at the Magic Kingdom or the Disney Dream Suite at Disneyland Park, based on availability

I would hate to see that happen. Those of us that can't financially buy a higher level of points would feel like we're being punished for not reaching that highest level.

I agree, and since DVC has a minimum buy in, that should be enough to get you ALL perks. Now if they said you had to have at least the minimum buy in to recieve perks, I'd agree with that. That might have an impact on the 25 point only contracts that have them just for the discounts. Frankly though, I doubt that is very many people.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if any other timeshare has this "perk"?

The reason I asked is because when DCL recently implemented their castaway cay silver, gold, platinum levels based on the # of cruises taken some people were miffed and said it should be based on the number of days instead of the number of cruises (3 day bahamas = 14 day mediterranian). And their response was that DCL is following industry standard.
So I'm just curious if this is something new DVC came up with or if they are following industry standard as well.

Yes there are other timeshares that have that. Most of the perks are cheaper fees (i.e. instead of the $95 fee to reserve out of the system it might be $75 or $50 or $0).
I did the survey as well. Hopefully they'll get a lot of Dis'ers on this.

But I get a better discount with my Disney VISA from Chase than I do with my DVC membership. I got 20% with VISN, 15% with AP or DVC. Now if I could add them all together....

Some perks are nice like "Keyes to the Kingdom"...and others probably not utilized and should be dropped. Maybe Disney will realize from the findings that DVC members are important contributors to such programs. Here's hoping that the findings will be used in our favor!

If DVC acts on the results of the survey, it's entirely possible that many members will find a favorite perk is not valued by the masses and is eventually eliminated. There are only a couple dozen replies to this post and already I've seen widely varying opinions on several perks.

I'm sure most members love current perks like the AP discount, free Internet and the Member Merry Mixers. But when you ask people to rank those perks against one another, not to mention other proposed perks like the castle stay, VIP seating and MYW ticket discounts, I suspect there will be a wide variety of answers from even like-minded members.

The survey was definitely a welcome idea. But even if you use the DIS as a barometer, there are many thousands of DVC members who are not DIS posters and may have a very different take on many of these proposals.

The danger with any majority rule situation is that you may find yourself among the minority.

Many do. Wyndham and Bluegreen do for sure---and they limit the "tiers" to developer purchases in most cases, not resale.

I don't know about timeshares, but that is not industry standard in MY cruise experience. We have sailed with Princess Cruises. My information gives the different levels. They have two ways to reach the next level - number of sailings or days at sea. That way, if you take a 2 week cruise you are getting "extra credit" for it. Maybe that isn't the case with other lines, but I do think Disney is off on that.

Now the question is, how did they pick the customers they surveyed?

And my concerns regarding this survey is that they would add some perks that can only accommodate x% of the membership population and take away the mass perks (like AP discount)

Here's what I mean:
AP discount for example, whether you use it or not if you want to they will honor it. Or even golf discount, etc. So 100% of the members could take part in this perk. It's each member's decision whether they want to get it or not.

Now, a perk like VIP fireworks viewing and such is so limited (I doubt they will create a giant viewing area for free y'know?). I hate see an increase in perks like that over the ones that could be used by more members.

I don't know if I'm making sense or not. Maybe not, it's been a long day...

That one caught my eye, too. I could just imagine what perks they grouped it with so that it might come out statistically better than either 1) stuff no one wants or 2) stuff that's expensive for DVC to offer.

I could be wrong, but you know what they say about statistics; if you know what you're doing, you can get them to say whatever you want. Historically we know Disney is adept at skewing results and saying guests requested certain changes. Character Caravan anyone?

Interesting Survey. Unfortunately I wasn't chosen to participate in this one. I think I've only gotten two in all the years I've been a member. I really think they should be asking for every member's participation in these types of surveys instead of a random sampling chosen by them. I would have loved to been in on this one.
