DVC studios - fewer amenities

Great idea! We share Christmas trees, strollers, beach chairs, easy to share a couple mugs.

I don't know if that would work. Unfortunately, judging by the budget board, the resort bellman seem to "misplace/lose" share things on a regular basis. And given the limited storage room at most resorts now...

Again, please refrain from comments other than those related to the mugs/glass issue.

I didn't think I said anything out of the ordinary. Just that I didn't think it was environmentally friendly or that it fit the needs of the members. I said that I hope they received a number of complaints so that they overturn the decision.

Not sure what was so horrible about it. :confused3

My goodness, MLA, what did you threaten to do if the glasses weren't returned??:lmao: :rotfl:

It seems to me that the value hotels even have a refregerator swap! A mug trade won't take up much space. There are enough of us that we can even do a hand to hand trade off.

Bobbi:goodvibes

PS. This is not the first of my disagreements with WDW/DVC. Right now, there are lots of members who don't like the Disney Files magazine, so for some of us, it's 2 things that have recently tipped the balance. I am a "tell you my thoughts" person, and my family laughs because Disney probably has a file on me, yeah, the circular one! I'm working on "letting this one go!"

MLA973, I am curious as well - did the response that you received really say that they would involve law enforcement, or did someone 'modify' your post?

Most of the other responses posted said that they may involve a third party if required

Just posting the message I received from DVC, in response to my email to them.:

Well, it looks like someone was having some fun with us - your response doesn't include involving law enforcement! ;)

I just want to get this straight. The studios won't have mugs or anything to clean them with? So if I bring a mug from home and expect to drink coffee in the morning out of it, then a cup of tea in the afternoon, that won't work? Yech! Is that the way it is?

Yup, so not only do you need to bring a mug...you need to bring the soap to bring it with.

I found the Environmentality awards from 1993 to 2006 right on Disney's website

(Post count is too low to post regular links, sorry)

We have a lot of writing to do because I'm not seeing green, I'm seeing red.

Instead of spending time to screw with your members, spend time with your housekeeping employees and train them to clean properly. If the Contemporary hadn't got caught with their pants down we probably wouldn't have this longwinded discussion now.
Most kennel employees at the local pound would not do the things to animals that Disney's housekeepers do to people! Maybe the hotel industry needs the same type of oversight that the ASPCA and others have to regulate the pet industry.

And Disney.... clean up your own house, before you think to clean ours.
We all spent heavily to purchase your "Home away from home", "Best kept secret", etc. because Disney is known for their customer service.
The old adage is: "Take care of your customers and they'll take care of you" and my business adage is: Please one customer and hopefully they'll pass it along to one new customer, screw one customer and they'll tell twenty!

SMARTEN UP DISNEY! You talk a good line, now prove it!
Styrofoam cups are not "green" and they don't belong in a "Home away from home"

I just called the Contemporary and spoke with the Contemporary Housekeeping who stated that they still have glassware in the rooms there. Apparently this is a DVC thing, which is quite a bit more annoying. I figured that it was a policy coming down from WDW, but apparently it isn't (or housekeeping is confuse too, which we know is always a possibility).

Or DVC is the "test market" for this policy. :confused3

Alright...I was on a roll and called the Grand Floridian and spoke with the Supervisor in Housekeeping who was also shocked and couldn't figure out why DVC did that. They are still using glass and ceramic and have not heard anything about changing it. She wondered if it was part of the "going green" that some of the resorts are doing, but doesn't think that makes sense with the additional waste.

Member Satisfaction with DVC is defintely the fight to make on this, because it appears to have been a limited change only to DVC (at least at this point).

If this is the case, it is at a pretty high expense. Seeing all the folks that have dished out big bucks for their home-away-from-home and continue to pay their yearly dues. I feel like a used guinea pig if we are their "test market"!!!

I don't see DVC being a "test market" far more rooms are affected since this appears to have occured at all the DVC resorts at the same time. I would think if it was just a test, they would have limited it to just one resort like OKW or SSR to begin with.

Prob. figure it's a captive audience for the next 35-50 years. See how it goes there. I'm guessing not too well and it's going the way of the dodo. I still think it's a sign that they know there are mousekeeping issues AND they know they are not going to put the effort into fixing them. That is not an option at the other resorts.

Good news....the horse was only on life support. We saved you a bat.

Yes, or perhaps DVC and Disney is fully aware that the DVC member is a 'captive' audience. A group of disneyphiles (to quote another Disney Files magazine) and not as likely to take a step back and be displeased. Or so they think. If this isn't a cost saving measure (as I really feel it is) as much as a sanitation concern, you would think it would be resort wide. Of course how many 4 star resorts have cheap wax paper cups in them? Not to mention those plates and cups in the studios aren't wrapped. Who knows who touched those before, or what they did with them. Now you don't even have any dish liquid to clean them with. Who wants to go to a luxury resort and have to bring dish liquid with them anyway?

Instead of a knee-jerk reaction to an news report on how poor housekeeping cleans, why don't they adress the issue with the housekeeping? Isn't Disney outsourcing housekeeping at this point? Maybe they need to fire some people and get people in who do their jobs.

I've half a mind to write letters to the organizations who have, of late, lauded (or certified) Disney's "green-ness" about this. I have a feeling that might have as much, if not more, of an effect on the policy as the letter writing campaign to DVC that's going on from the members.

I also think that publicity is the way to make Disney take notice. Alas I suspect they will be waiting for this to die down, but if a national organisation takes an interest then they would be far more likely to listen.

I am in the UK but I intend to email the Sunday travel supplement of The Times (one of our 'heavy' newspapers) to see if they will take an interest in this tit bit. Won't hold my breath (Disney is a big advertiser here), but worth a try.

Surely they could just offer sealed hygienic packs of mugs/glassware to studio folk at check-in on payment of a refundable deposit? Not everyone would want them but to remove the option of ceramic mugs and glassware is poor to say the least.

I sent my email on Sunday, but still no proper response. Perhaps Member Satisfaction is a bit busy right now :rolleyes1
