DVC studios - fewer amenities

If this isn't a cost saving measure (as I really feel it is) as much as a sanitation concern, you would think it would be resort wide.
Why I don't think it's cost saving issue. The cost of any mug breakage and theft would be paid for by our dues. Even if people swiped the mugs every trip, it isn't costing Disney anything. If they were worried about saving money, any of the other resorts would be a better choice. And if this is a decision to save money, our dues should all be going down this year, right???

And better than that, it should not cost members either, the guest who stole the items should be charged, there is an inventory sheet and Housekeeping are supposed to take inventory between guests.

So, does anyone think that the DVC studio models (including the one in Chicago at Doorway to Dreams) will showcase the new paper supplies or that, for show, they will continue to have both ceramic mugs and glass cups in them?

SPRUCE how did you get that picture with all the Disney Friends at one time??

I am assume that is you and your family/friends in that picture in front of Cinderella's Castle with the disney friends right??

How?

The more I think about it the more I think I'm going to contact my guide. One of his biggest selling points with us is that if you don't have a lot of points it's okay. Everyone is treated the same. Well this is certainly not treating everyone the same. With our amount of points right now we stay mainly in studios. So why should I not be getting the same kind of glasses and mugs, and heck even plates as those who have enough points to stay in a 1, 2 or 3 bedroom every time they come?

So we have heard from the Contemp and the Grand Floridian. Has anyone posted what is in the AKV preview studio at WDW and I missed it?

I really think the issue is Mousekeeping - and you are all right - rather than deal with that problem, they are making it our problem.

I want to know if the 8 and is it 8 styrofoam cups that are put in our studio come sealed. Have any of you ever looked in the housekeeping storage rooms - the paper plates, bowls, etc are just sitting out uncovered on the shelves. I don't really have a major problem with this - I just don't use the top one in my unit assuming that it may have been anywhere, including sitting in a housekeeping basket outside my room for hours. But the cups - yuk - if they are packaged in bulk - handled by housekeeping in any fashion and then given to us- I don't want to think about it.

I arrive this Sunday for five weeks in a studio - I will give you reports on how it goes.

Have you ever done the math on a studio. It is represented as accommodations for four. Yes - you get four bath towels, four washcolths and two hand towels, I am not sure what the other two people are supposed to use.

Now for a unit of four you get eight styrofoam cups. That would be one each for juice, milk or coffee in the morning. Assuming you drink nothing the rest of the day you would have left for the next morning. But if you are there any longer - - too bad - dirty cups for you!! Four people could easily use eight cups in any given day.

Maybe they think we should just re-use them.
Speaking of that - the re-fillable cups - how to we clean them now without soap. When we take them to be refilled do we ask them to wash them first?

Just a few thoughts!

Sounds like DVC did not do their research properly. (but we know that).

the value and moderate food court have a mug cleaner with hot and I mean hot water. DVC resorts DO NOT.

what I can't believe that Disney has not say anything about the enviorment and basically the reason why.

the allear was no explanation. If they are doing this to us and not WDW resorts - where the problem was - something must have caused it.

who cares what happenings at the CR.

if they still gave us the mugs, glasses and dishwashing detergent. You can wash your own.

No I see this as something bigger. DVC is trying to take things back. This will only be the first.

shortly you will have to bring your sheets, toliet paper, paper towels, etc. Or worst try to make it be like some of the houses (not in Orlando) - where you need to bring everything. - pots, pans and dishes.

lets face it - the honest and above DVC is now gone. instead we get nothing.

I have been reading this thread with disappointment in Disney. I have sent one email off to member satisfaction. Anyone contacted the Orlando Sentinel over there yet?

I just contacted my salesperson for DVC. He stated they were surprised with the reaction, but felt like all things it would go away.

I asked if they had put styrofoam in the models. Suggested they not try and show a deluxe unit that they couldn't deliver. People do remember what they paid for and will not be happy if it is not delivered.

I think the "green" issue will go a lot farther than anyone can imagine. Disney does not like bad press!!

Remember a few people can do a lot to change things when they put their minds to it!!

From http://corporate.disney.go.com/environmentality/waste_minimization.html

Disney Environmentality:
"Waste Minimization:
A commitment by employees to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste whenever possible has truly become one of Disney's hallmark environmental initiatives. Through the years, many of these efforts have been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which honored Disney with a 2006 WasteWise Honorable Mention for a Very Large Business."

I have a sneaking suspicion they won't be winning this award again this year. :headache:

A link to Disney's Paper Reduction Initiatives, it involves Disney's sending out information electronically, rather than on paper. With the inclusion of paper cups the savings will be lessened. Also, this link takes you to other places which discuss Disney's Fiscal reponsibilities and Environmentality.

Bobbi:goodvibes

dvc obviously doesn't think that applied to them. Or they won't be sending us that silly Disney files magazine. Has nothing to do with DVC. but since DVC members are paying for it, they feel we need a copy.

I just shot a letter off to WDW's Environmental Initiatives arm:

Environmental Initiatives
Walt Disney World Resort
Post Office Box 10,000
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830-1000

Others might want to do the same.

My parents are presently staying in a studio in AKV. In order to manage during this vacation, my mother a) bought a coffee mug in the gift shop, b) lifted 4 glasses off a housekeeping cart when no one was looking (not to keep, just to use), and c) will hide these 4 glasses so they aren't taken during trash/towel.

A significant initial and annual investment, and she's left to behave like a criminal during her vacation :rotfl:

EDIT: GREEN is definitely the right angle to pursue. I remember recently one of the national morning shows (maybe good morning america) having a big story on poor/unsanitary cleaning measures in hotels across the country. If this policy change is related to this somehow, GMA might be interested in learning that Disney's response was to create more garbage rather than clean better.

What, the replacements or our reactions? If they think our reactions will just go away I think that's even MORE of a reason to make a bigger fuss about this! So what, DVC thinks they can just change anything and we'll be upset at first but we'll just get used to it or something? That is not at ALL a proper business model, and in fact I think it pretty shady as well.

I also sent an email..Now i am not the best at writting letter's(so please try not to be mean..lol), but i think i got my point across....

Hi, my name is Shannon Xxxxxxx I have been a DVC member since December 2005 and I must say that I am very upset about the changes being made in the studios by taking out the glasses and ceramic coffee mugs. I can deal with using plastic utensils, although my last trip 2 weeks ago they were never replenished on trash and towel day. I can also deal with using paper bowls and plates, although I would rather not, I can deal with it. What I can not deal with is having to use Styrofoam cups to drink out of. Have you read the medical reports??? What about the added and unnecessary waste, and extra cost to your members. Disney has been big on eating healthy and "Going Green" well with the use of all of the disposable plates, bowls, utensils and now nasty foam cups the Disney Co. is the farthest thing from "being green". I'm sorry if your mouskeepers aren't capable enough to sterilize the cups and glasses after each guest, but my family shouldn't have to deal with less than "Deluxe" accommodations. I was also wondering if the foam cups are individually wrapped? If not how do we know if they are new or if they have been touched by dirty hands or filled with something before the next guest checked in to their "home away from home".
I am also upset with the fact of not getting any dish soap, what about the families traveling with young children who drink from a sippy cup or bottle? Will you still be providing this if requested, or will these families now have to shell out more money down at the gift shop? While sitting here is was also wondering..the next time i visit my "Home away from Home" DVC resort and stay in a studio and wish to purchase a refillable mug what do you recommend i use wash it out, my bath soap?
Thank you for you time on this matter,

**Again i am not good at writing, but felt the need to let them know i am upset. <3

I hate to quote myself, but I found this article citing the Good Morning America and other recent news stories on hotel glass sanitation:

http://www.hotelmotel.com/hotelmote.../Article/detail/494482?contextCategoryId=1229

Date is March 3rd - suspicious timing.

While its a serious article about serious issues, had to chuckle about the man in the bathroom stall!
