DVC studios - fewer amenities

OK, I have just posted a Poll on the Trip Reports Board to try to determine what is being supplied in each of the resorts propertywide. Hopefully we will get some better recent input for the Deluxe & Moderate resorts. I know we had plastic cups at POP last September.

Anyone come up with some addresses yet? Maybe we should write to the managers of each resort also.

Good idea....but the value resorts never had glasses....always plastic cups.

I have not read everything here.

Last year we stayed in a studio at Vero Beach. There were not ceramic mugs in the studio, styrofoam maybe, and called housekeeping. It took another call, and they didn't come until the after our second morning there, but I did get us mugs. I hadn't given the matter another thought until now.
We had only stayed in Inn rooms prior and there were ceramic mugs there. I thought it was just an oversight.

I agree. I think that spiceycat was teasing earlier when she suggested that at least one poster here was a 'plant' from DVC, but it is disturbing that not just uninformed owners but MS are blatantly lying about mugs never having been in studio units. How stupid do they think that we are? And how disappointing.

It is one thing for us to be bashed about by an uninformed owner here who insists that studios are not deluxe and never had mugs, but for MS to spout that line in insulting.

I agree - I often encourage people to stand up and be heard. If it was enough to make people post here, then please do take a few minutes and compose an email (or copy the text of those already posted)

I am not uninfomed and as far as I can tell I have been a owner (MEMBER)since 2000 I have had 3 contracts and I am very well informed.

I beg to differ with your posting but not all of us feel that losing glasses or mugs is the end of the world and the whole Vacation club will spin into a deep black hole.

For anyone that says a DVC studio is not supposed to be comparable to a deluxe room try comparing prices on the Disney website:

For 10/1/08 - 10/7/08:

BCV Studio - $2,448.00
BWV Studio - $2,448.00
Boardwalk Inn Standard View Room - $2,448.00
Beach Club Standard View Room - $2,448.00
Yacht Club Standard View Room - $2,448.00

How can they justify anything less for a DVC Studio than they put in the deluxe rooms that they rent for the same price?

Has anyone actually received an answer to why they made this change and if the same change has been made at the other deluxe resorts.

the point is bit by bit.....it cheapens DVC....Are you comfortable with the
fact that DVC is the ONLY timeshare that does this?

THis really sucks...bring a guest...here..use plastic...I am writing...
its disappointing and discouraging to say the least

Has anyone contacted their guides about this? (Mine is on vacation this week or I would call him.) Would seem to me that they would have a vested interest in this as it might affect their sales commissions down the line . . . .

Well, you certainly spent quite a bit of time yesterday trying to tell us that we were incorrect and that there were never mugs in studio rooms.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion that losing glasses or mugs is 'not the end of the world'.

Many however have expressed a concern; not just for DVC standards but more importantly for the environment.

But my problem lies here. There is not a dishwasher the is not real kitch you have a microwave and a dorm size refrigerator.

I beleive it is a justifed change . I am not saying it will save money .
I do not really care

there is not listing in any member(NOT owner) guide book saying that it is in a studio .

As a matter of Fact (for those who think I am uninformed) the newest guide book says nothing about having cups(mug) glasses in a studio.

But however it does list it for a 1 Bdr and a 2 Bdr and a grandvilla As detailed on page 24-25 of the latest guide book.

This has caused as much hoopla as the Com. renting changes (which have not changed since I became an owner) .

As I have said it does not affect me or my stays but for those whom it does you have a option to complane about it But I feel it will be falling of ear that will not change.

Dave, in my studio apartment in Germany there was/is no dishwasher. The kitchen is the same size as a studio in a DVC villa. Dishwashers are very rare in Germany. The fridge is the same size, as are fridges all over Germany and Europe.

But we certainly are not unsanitary. If there is a kitchen sink and dishsoap, there is no issue with washing up. One does not require a dishwasher to ensure that dishes are washed correctly

I just got the standard reply from Todd that he is fowarding my message to the Member Satisfaction Team ... I think Todd must be ready for a vacation by now. Maybe he'll stay in one of the studios with the sparkling new sanitary amenties.

Yep. The dishwasher was invented in the late 1800's but wasn't popular until the mid 1900's. I think they've found dishes in most ancient archaeological dig sites. My in-laws live in the USA and they *GASP* don't have a dishwasher and yet don't use paper plates at most of their formal dinners. They were born in Europe though.

Just submitted this to MS:

My parents are presently staying in a studio at Animal Kingdom Villas, and I wanted to write to let you know how disappointed we are with DVC's decision to remove glasses and coffee mugs from studio rooms.

We purchased our membership with the intention of using studios nearly 100% of the time, and this policy certainly cheapens the image and experience of studio accommodations. Animal Kingdom Villas/Lodge is a place where the image of drinking coffee or wine on the balcony is heavily marketed by Disney, a fact that jars badly with styrofoam cups.

More importantly, the decision to create so much excess paper and styrofoam garbage is inconsistent with Disney's environmental mission, and frankly just awful.

Please forward this message to member satisfaction. Thanks and regards,

We just returned from an AKV value Studio yesterday. Room 5014. We were there for 4 nights arriving on March 6th. The first thing DH did was check out the coffee situation. ( It's very important to him). The FIRST thing he said was "there are no coffee mugs". I then decided to look at the list of what was provided and the list did say only paper. This was a new list dated March 2nd.

Someone mentioned earlier about being on the 5th floor and then folks being on the 4th floor getting mugs and glasses.. WELL there were non DVC rooms RIGHT ACROSS THE HALL. These rooms were standard veiw and they were NOT DVC. I KNOW that they were getting glasses ( not sure about mugs, If I would have seen one I would have "Liberated" one for DH). I heard that clean glassware cart EVERYDAY go up and down the hallway. ( we did get a scrubby and dish soap.. I WILL NOT wash my paper dishes WHO THOUGHT OF THAT????)

We have been members since 1996 and have made several trips each year, most of them have been in studios.. NEVER have we not had a coffee mug in a studio. These small changes are adding up to become a very large problem. I too expect to have the items in place that were implied at the time of purchase, they have taken out several of the decorative items, the peach towels and now this. I will be sending an email to member services.

Since by your own addmission it is not diffrent then you apartment In Germany how can it be deemed a deluxe Room .

OH hum It still will not change my mind as for the inviromental impact

I and will be to bet that has been looked at ..

BCV is our home resort. The studios have always had mugs and glasses. We used the glasses for our wine. Our friends were staying in a studio at Boardwalk Villas last week. Housekeeping came to their room (they were in the room), and took away their mugs and glasses in the middle of their five night stay.

Hello,

We have recently been informed that the studios will no longer have ceramic mugs or glass glasses but instead will have Styrofoam. This is an unacceptable degradation of the service and amenities in accommodations that label themselves as deluxe. When we bought into DVC we expected to be getting a better level of experience than someone staying off-site, this move certainly is not in line with that expectation. Additionally, the impact to the environment absolutely does not meet with the standards that Disney should be setting for themselves as a "Green" company. We hope that this change will be reconsidered and remanded in a very short time.

Thank you,

:rotfl2: I thought of this last night too! Just another German/Bavarian concerned about the environment, isn't he ;)
