DVC studios - fewer amenities

Someone mentioned earlier about being on the 5th floor and then folks being on the 4th floor getting mugs and glasses.. WELL there were non DVC rooms RIGHT ACROSS THE HALL. These rooms were standard veiw and they were NOT DVC. I KNOW that they were getting glasses ( not sure about mugs, If I would have seen one I would have "Liberated" one for DH). I heard that clean glassware cart EVERYDAY go up and down the hallway. ( we did get a scrubby and dish soap.. I WILL NOT was my paper dishes WHO THOUGHT OF THAT?????

Scoping out times for "borrowing" mugs/glasses from housekeeping will be the new calling to request specific views

Since by your own addmission it is not diffrent then you apartment In Germany how can it be deemed a deluxe Room .

What does that have to do with anything? Disney markets these rooms as deluxe, they charge for them (on cash basis) just like a deluxe, the services in the resorts are considered deluxe. Just because YOU don't think they are Deluxe, doesn't make them not a deluxe.

Of course with what Disney is doing you may get your wish as they continue to "dumb down" the DVC product.

OH hum It still will not change my mind as for the inviromental impact

I and will be to bet that has been looked at ..
It's a home away from home.

The start of this line of argument is absurd too. There's no washer or dryer in the studios either, so are paper sheets and blankets next or did they somehow find the technology to take things out of the rooms, clean them and bring them back?

BCV is our home resort. The studios have always had mugs and glasses. We used the glasses for our wine. Our friends were staying in a studio at Boardwalk Villas last week. Housekeeping came to their room (they were in the room), and took away their mugs and glasses in the middle of their five night stay.

Holy cow would I be mad if they did this. I hope they didn't try to convince them there were never there to start with!

"These are not the coffee mugs you are looking for...."

I will also be emailing DVC on this issue. IIRC we had styrofoam coffee cups in our BWV studio over NYE, but we also had ceramic mugs and the traditional glasses. It was all good because we could fill the to-go mugs and carry them with us when we went to the parks.

It's not just DVC, BTW. I just stayed at a brand new Westin in Lombard, IL. My DH is SPG Plat so we were upgraded to a bigger room (not quite a suite, but bigger than a regular room). The room was luxurious and comfortable. We had clear plastic cups and stryrofoam coffee cups. No glass :(. I felt somewhat cheated.

OK ... here is my letter:

I am writing because of the recent change in downgrading the amenities found in DVC studio villas. Ceramic mugs and real glassware are being replaced with styrofoam and plastic cups. While the styrofoam cups would be a welcome addition to the ceramic mugs, they are a poor replacement. Plastic cups are even worse as there is really no substitute for real glassware! We have been DVC members since 1997 and we do indeed consider our DVC villas a "home away from home", even the studio villas. Let me assure you, my family does not drink out of plastic and styrofoam at home and I expect the same when staying at a DVC resort.

Please reconsider this change and bring back the ceramic mugs and glassware. Styrofoam and plastic cups makes a DVC studio feel more like a "motel away from home" than a "home away from home".

ETA: I just read my post and apologize for the overwhelming snarkiness. Sorry. :(

If they want to be deluxe then spend the points for a one BDR and poof your deluxe

Since DBorges is a fan of cutting and pasting official Disney literature to substantiate his assessment of Studio status, this is from Disney.com:

"Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts

Escape to a whimsical waterfront Resort steeped in nostalgia and old-fashioned charm. Experience the romance and playfulness of a bygone era, both inside the elegant Resort and outside amidst the nearby carnival sights and ragtime sounds of Disney's BoardWalk entertainment district. With dining and entertainment galore, this Disney Vacation Club Resort transports you to a simpler time when life was nothing short of grand and all your days were carefree."

Note it does not say "Disney Deluxe One and Two Bedroom Resort (and those pesky Steerage Studios)"

DBorges also wrote "But my problem lies here. There is not a dishwasher the is not real kitch you have a microwave and a dorm size refrigerator."

If the lack of a dishwasher means a kitchen is not Real... well, get real. Apparently many of us have lived (or do live) in houses with phantom kitchens since we did not have a dishwasher. Additionally the area in the studios is called a kitchenETTE, which according to Merriam Webster (warning! another cut and paste coming up) is "a small kitchen or an alcove containing cooking facilities." Not an unreal kitchen but a small kitchen. Big BIG difference. IMHO of course.

I too have emailed Member Satisfaction on this topic and can't wait for the spin they put on the secret replacement and mostly its negative impact on the environment.

YMMV

I understand that people love OL for storing things that DVC doesn't provide and they want on their stays at DVC resorts. But seriously, why should I, or anyone have to put out money to have an OL for something that should be provided in deluxe accommodations?

THANK you. :worship:

Checked into OKW studio March 2. There were dirty mugs and glasses setting in a washbasket outside of our room, but there were no mugs or glasses in our studio. I called housekeeping to request mugs and glasses and was told that studios didn't get them. I told her, "but the previous guests had them, because their dirty ones are still setting outside of our door". She said "OK, I'll bring you 2 of each". When she arrived, she had more styrofoam cups and told us that we were not permitted to have mugs and glasses. So, after looking at your picture, maybe they have already decided to reverse their policy.

Boy, they make it sound like we will do something bad with them. I'm still waiting for my response from MS. I'm sure it will be a carefully worded response.

since when is a kitchenette a full kitchen a wet bar sink and a micowave does not equal a kitchen and a dorm room size frig is not a 18qbft frig Wow lets break out the hot plates and call it a custom full Kitchen

I think the fact that Disney did do this without personal checking with the MEMBERS is making you all think HOW could they.

I realize this issue could be made bigger then what it actualy is and seem that some are making it more then it is.

No where does it state that DELUXE mean you get glassware as i said reread your planner pages 25-26 .

Because the fine line of owner/member comes into play we do own but it is a limited ownership. While we do have a say that say is not the driving force in what DVC does .

By Writting and speaking our opinions yes the squeekey wheel gets the grease but not all the time.

Now I have been the getting anger directed to me well I have big shoulders but I do not have a issue with the change.

Sorry if you all have such a hard time with it I do not the only issue i really do have is are you going to get a replentisment of the stock.

And what if any impacted does this have on trash..

I'm curious about something. Would you have a problem if they replaced the dishes and glassware in the 1BR with disposables?

This is not meant as an attack, but is English your first language, Dborges?

The level of misspelling, incorrect or non-existent punctuation and unusual wording in your posts makes me think it is not. I have a hard time understanding some of what you are trying to say due to this.

If you have an issue that affects your ability to write clearly please forgive me for pointing this out but I am having great difficulty reading your posts.

I guess I am just trying to find a reason to excuse this. :)

Yes I would due to the fact that there is a FULL KITCHEN THERE.
I thought so. Well then ... you can complain when it happens to you and Disney decides that it doesn't matter if the kitchen is "full" or not.

I too expect to have the items in place that were implied at the time of purchase, they have taken out several of the decorative items, the peach towels and now this.

Not only decorative items and peach towels - salt & pepper shakers, throw pillows, coasters, cloth napkins & napkin rings, bathroom scale (not that I really miss that on vacation!), more than just a starter package of coffee, creamer & sugar and possibly other items that I can't think of at the moment. I think I remember placemats, but I might be wrong about that. Little by little, what we purchased in '94 is being degraded. Yes, these are relatively small changes, but my main concern is what's next?
