DVC studios - fewer amenities

I must be odd girl out then...every single time I've stayed at BCV or BWV in a studio, I have had glassware..mugs/glasses.

While I understand this particular post is 'older' I just have to respond....how insulting! DVC, be it a studio, one bedroom, two bedroom or grand villa, is considered deluxe. Where do you get off trying to tell those who stay in studios that they aren't in a deluxe room? The studios are more than comparable to the rooms at the other 'deluxe' resorts. Just because they don't have a w/d or whirlpool tub does not make them 'value villas'!! It's called lack of space!

I guess you could be right. But what's next? As someone else said...will we be expected to bring our own sheets? Our own toaters? It's about decreasing value for your dollar.

Well, I guess Disney and DVC could take away my AP discout as well, or disallow our buying the DDP. But, once again, that's taking away something we were given. Not such a good idea. It's indeed a slippery slope. It's almost bait and switch. I wonder how those who bought DVC, based on what they were given as perks (DDP availability, AP discounts, glassware in the studios) would feel to find that within 6 months of their closing those things were taken away. I can't imagine they would feel too great about it.

My concern it what's next? As it is, I'm washing paper bowls in my studio. I like to have a quick bowl of cereal for breakfast. If everyone in my family has a bowl of cereal, we have gone through our supply of bowls the first day..nothing is going to be replaced, without a call, for another 4 days!! Do I feel silly washing paper bowls? You betcha! But, that's life. But, no way am I drinking out of paper cups....or styro, which is even worse in my opinion.
Looks like one more thing (well, 4 more) for my Owners Locker. Who knew I was going to get so much use from the darn thing. I used to have clothes in there, but now the room is taken up with plastic plates, bowls, mugs, etc. Not much better than paper, but it's the best I can do. I'll be taking my DVC mugs with me in Dec and leaving them behind in the locker.
I will be sending along my email to MS..to join all the others. This is not a good sign for us....DVC is beginning to look like a Motel 6!!

Yes lot's of changes......I was pissed about the no smoking policy......but
understood it was all of WDW......this is ridiculous.
Soon we'll see disposable sheets.....heck I think the thread count is like 50.
maybe they are disposable:rolleyes1

I've been sitting her mulling about the usage of the word 'member' versus 'owner' after my previous reply and how typing 'owner' instead of 'member' might convey a different feeling. Could it be in the beginning member was used to create the exclusivity of the timeshare and perhaps create distance from the old problems of timeshare ownership. It seems like today the word 'member' is used to disassociate people from their feeling of ownership and control.

I tell you, people, in a few years some DVC member will return from their trip to WDW and tell everyone about the magic and pixie dust they received on their trip. Real cloth sheets, real terry towels and real ceramic mugs.

It will be a part of a Year Of A Million Dreams ..part 10!
"I got dreamed! I got a real towel in my room..and THREE sugar packets!"

don't think it has been done to the deluxe or even moderate resort. Disney is starting with us - to see how we react.

since we are not reacting to what they want - it might stop.

anyone think about writing to Jim lewis as well.

Taking away something in the studios that has been there since 1971 - is just not reasonable. then to say that they were always strofoam cups - is living in a world of fantasy.

we are the ones who are surpose to live in the world of fantasy at DVC - not the employee (these people are not worth of CM).

if this was his ideal - boy - DVC is going DOWNHILL fast. All that talk about how wonderful he was going to make DVC - is just talk.

I wrote a blunt letter to MS on Sunday (my first complaint to DVC since becoming a member 7 years ago) - got the canned response. Do other TS like Marriott, HYatt, etc put plastic in their studio portions? I haven't stayed in others, so just wondering. It's bad enough there were paper plates and bowls before - to extend it to the drinkware is ridiculous. They put a kitchenette in the studios precisely for people to be able to eat and drink in the rooms. Most interstate hotels provide real mugs if they have a coffeemaker in the room. And anyone who thinks coffee and wine taste the same out of plastic must not have much of a palette. If the housekeeping staff is stocking/cleaning inappropriately then they need to be retrained - not have our ammenities cut because they aren't doing their jobs. If housekeeping doesn't change the sheets between guests- are they going to start having us provide our own sheets?

They don't even provide straws at VB because of the risk to sea turtles - what happens when all those styrofoam cups start flying off the balconies into the ocean - I bet Styrofoam is GREAT for sea turtles.

This is just a stupid idea. I hope they are getting a lot of complaints about this.

Just what the world needs is more disposable cups, plates, and utensils. Right on, Disney! Used sets can just be bundled up and tossed in Bay Lake.

They're going to have to fix this.

Wasnt there a big deal about disney going green last year. How is styrofoam going green? Doesnt it sit in landfills for years? I would think dishsoap would be a lil more biodegradable. If I need to I guest I could bring my YOMD mugs w/ me lol.

Before I purchased DVC I read on these boards a discussion about whether DVC owners are treated BETTER because they are loyal customers who come back year after year, or are treated WORSE because Disney already has your money and knows you'll be back no matter how they're treated.

Now, a year after purchase, it is easy to see which way the wind is blowing.....

Has anyone gotten a response as to WHY they are doing this?

This is supposed to be my home away from home.

I wonder that too-why they're doing it. It certainly isn't as good environmentally. And I question whether it's cheaper (but it sure feels that way drinking out of dtyrofoam). And before I get super-upset at DVC, I want to know if this is a resortwide policy at WDW at ALL the deluxe resorts.

What a concept. Now why didn't DVC think of this????:confused3

I am dismayed by this whole topic. I don't stay in studios, but I am worried that this will be the way the wind is blowing for all dvc property.

One side question, what/where is an owners locker?

Maybe they will be removing the entire kitchenette portion of the villa to make room for a chair that converts into a bed making the official occupancy limit 5?????

People just love Owner's Locker. Here's Deb Wills' rate and review section:

I understand that people love OL for storing things that DVC doesn't provide and they want on their stays at DVC resorts. But seriously, why should I, or anyone have to put out money to have an OL for something that should be provided in deluxe accommodations? And whether DBorges wants to acknowledge it or not, a DVC studio is marketed by Disney as a deluxe resort and so should have the same level of amentities as the 1 and 2 BR units.

I just finished my letter to DVC. This is what I wrote (and what I experienced just last week):

To whom it may concern,

I just got back from staying in a studio at Old Key West (Feb 28-March 7). I had two friends come along with me that are interested in buying a timeshare. I was ready to "show off" my DVC. They arrived first and told me later that they laughed at the fact that there were paper cups and plastic forks instead of the "real" things in the room. They laughed! One said, "This is supposed to be a deluxe room?" Regardless, it was very embarrassing for me to watch them drink their wine from a Styrofoam cup!

We need to get the glass cups and stainless steal silverware and "real" plates back into the studios. It is suppose to be my "home." I don't use plastic at home. And it is suppose to be an upper scale resort isn't it?
I think it is a shame that someone made this decision. What is it really saving in costs?
I am not happy with this decision.

Thanks for your time.

Sincerely,

Mark

That's a good letter. I wonder how many prospective DVC members reading these boards for more info (as so many do) are having the same second thoughts.

Does anyone have the address of Jim Lewis.....

Or do we email on the DVC website on "contact us" and "attention Jim lewis"
in title?thanks

Even worse then the change, is the fact that they are lying to guests that there never have been mugs!!! ...and not even a hint of communication from DVC. They don't seem to be valuing their owners enough to communicate to them about changes to their property.

I agree. I think that spiceycat was teasing earlier when she suggested that at least one poster here was a 'plant' from DVC, but it is disturbing that not just uninformed owners but MS are blatantly lying about mugs never having been in studio units. How stupid do they think that we are? And how disappointing.

It is one thing for us to be bashed about by an uninformed owner here who insists that studios are not deluxe and never had mugs, but for MS to spout that line in insulting.

I truly hope that everyone who is upset about this change in policy is letting Disney hear from you directly(phone calls, letters, email), and not just venting here on this and other forums. Disney will make changes when enough guests complain long and loud. JMO

I agree - I often encourage people to stand up and be heard. If it was enough to make people post here, then please do take a few minutes and compose an email (or copy the text of those already posted)
