Is AKL-Kidani the only DVC location where a 1 bedroom unit both sleeps 5 AND has the 2 bathrooms? That configuration was so convenient last week, yet being way out in AKL seemed so far away.

All thoughts appreciated....

Just saw a model of a BLT one BR at Disney's Doorway to Dreams in Woodfield Mall this weekend. All I can say is............WOW :)!!! It is huge and sleeping 5 (the guide pulled out the chair into a single and it was plenty big for an adult) with two bathrooms is such a plus. Just wish the points weren't so high :(.

You are right... the points are very high..... AKL is 180 for a standard 1 Br and its 217 at BLT! Considering everyday isn't spent at MK, the convenience factor disappears very quickly. Consequently, 37 points is a lot for 1 or 2 days out of a week of park visiting.

But, AKL is so far away from EVERYTHING........

I've stayed at AKL twice and didn't think it was that much difference as far as transportation to the parks. I drove from Kidani to DHS in about 5 minutes. AK of course is very close. Epcot & MK is probably about 10 min.

The other DVC with 2 bathrooms in a 1 bedroom is Grand California.

In other words, the 3 newest DVC resorts all have the "1br sleeps 5 with 2 baths" configuration; do we see a trend here, perhaps?

Definitely. I've heard that 1 bedrooms typically book slower than studios or 2 bedrooms. Probably because a 1 bedroom is about twice the points of a studio but still has an occupancy of 4. So by adding the bathroom and pushing up the occupancy to 5, it makes them more attractive.

One more thing - the AKV Value one bedroom does not sleep five and does not have the extra bedroom. These are only located in Jambo House.

I think you mean it only has one bathroom.

I'm surprised you thought the unit was "huge", because I think it's one of the smaller 1 bedroom units in the whole DVC system. We might be spoiled though with the huge accommodations at OKW. I even felt AKV was a little cramped when we stay there.

If they usually only use hotel rooms it probably would feel quite roomy. And I loved all the room at OKW.

We are currently having an absolutely amazing stay in a 1 bdrm in Kidani. I think they 1 bedroom seems a whole lot larger than in other resorts. I don't think they are, it is just the furniture takes up less room I think. And, having 2 bathrooms has been an amazing help to us having 3 kids needing to shower every morning. I love this layout with sleeping 5 and 2 bathrooms. It really is a help to those of us with families of 5 who were wasting points to stay in a 2 bedroom. I can feel adontitis coming on.

It's not really fair to compare a standard at AKV to an MK at BLT. But the points are still high anyway.

I don't think it is really that long of bus ride from AKV to anywhere. Since it only shares the bus with AKL and there are only 2 resort stops it doesn't take long to get anywhere. The only bus that might have problems is the one to MK due to the traffic. But I noticed when they often take the back roads to MK.

Well all the villas are smaller than OKW! But the top three 1 BR's according to size are: OKW at 942 sq. ft. (hugh, but no second bathroom); Kidani at 807 sq. ft.; and BLT at 803 sq. ft.

I think the comparison was SV at BLT, not MK. I am a BLT owner and bought there because we love MK.

I go in the summer (a teacher) so when I was comparing resorts, I knew that BLT was higher but not enough to make me say it was way out of whack (at least IMHO).

A SV 1 bedroom during Magic season is 272. A savannah view at AKV is 270. For me, 2 point difference. I know that some will say a SV at BLT isn't the same as savannah view at AKV, but I do think that is a matter of preference as view is less important than location to me (we go to MK almost every day of our trip).

But I also looked at the Epcot resorts which would be my 2nd choice. BCV is 270 (2 points less) and BWV, preferred view, is 272 (the same--didn't use SV as those are hard to get if not an owner and not something I wanted to say was always going to be possible).

And, at BCV and BWV, they do only sleep 4 while my BLT will sleep five (and I am a family of 5). So, for my own situation, BLT is not really a more post costly trip.

Exactly, same for SSR/OKW/VWL-if you have 5, you need to compare a 2BR points. Sure its much bigger, but often not necessary for 5. We plan on a 1BR MK at BLT for 3 nights, and then BCV 2BR for 4 nights, about the same points per night more or less.

As we are limiting occupancy discussion to the DVC Occupancy Thread and because this is going off topic into a discussion of room size, I'm going to go ahead and close this thread.

You are welcome to continue in the Occupancy Thread.
