DVC Polynesian officially announced.

Well, if anything was going to get me to add on this is it! The Poly has been a fave since I was a kid and I can't wait to see what they do to a 2bd villa!

There will be no one and two bedroom villas at the Polynesian.

The one place where the wife has always wanted to go to.... guess I need to start saving for the add-on, and hope the £-$ goes back up to the $1.80 rate it was when we bought SSR

Failing that - anyone want a kidney ?

So how did you come to this? So they're only building regular rooms or studios? That is very disappointing

It is the information I was given.

Do we know if they plan to do anything to the lagoon if they build some over the water bungalows? We were at the Poly snooping around a few weeks ago while we were on vacation and I was noticing the lagoon water...not something I would want to sleep over.....I have actually stayed in a true over the water bungalow in Tahiti and it was amazing! I would hope Disney would create a lagoon, maybe similar to Aulani, to build the bungalows over. You know they are going to be $$$ point wise so if I am going to spend the points I would want it to be as authentic as possible. Just my 2 cents....

I am actually happier about trader sams coming in. after visiting the one in Disneyland I have always wanted one at world. I don't need to stay at the poly (I am happy with my akl) .

Wow, I don't check in for a few days, and this information is released??!!

Guess I learned my leason - always check in on the boards DAILY!

Have to call DW - time to call our DVC rep, time to check on my credit rating, time to . . .

Okay, calm down, we have time.

I'll see most of you in the stampede to buy once the release date is set.

Honestly I hope after this they find a way to add another DVC to DLR. GCV sold out eons ago and the wait list there is HUGE.

The only reason there isn't another DVC at DLR is because they are still (attempting) to milk that market for Aulani sales. There are plenty of locations around the existing hotels which could host new construction. It's just a matter of waiting for the right time.

:thumbsup2 The Trader Sams in DLR is one of the best parts of the resort and I so happy that WDW will have one as well.

I am crossing my fingers for this one, DLR really needs another DVC!

As far as the Poly goes I am interested but will just have to wait and see what happens.

That's like saying they wouldn't build anything at WDW because Hilton Head & Vero Beach were on the market, but we got Boardwalk Villas around the same time. Actually it makes even LESS sense than that... Hawaii is thousands of miles away from DLR. Totally different markets - even to California residents Hawaii is a slog/destination vacation - Disneyland is actually closer to WDW than Aulani (barely, but still!)

It would seem that would only lead (or add) to frustration for the DVC owner on the west coast if where they really want to stay is DLR and what they are encouraged to do is purchase Aulani.

A different strategy might be to build a new resort to sell at DLR and once the new owners get the bug it might be far easier to get add on sales at Aulani.

All I can do is recommend you share that feedback with DVC. When they committed to nearly 500 villas in Hawaii, it was a huge financial risk. Probably a greater gamble than they ever should have taken.

I'm sure Hawaii isn't for everyone but visitor stats do show a significant portion of their tourist market coming from the west coast. Disney is going to do everything in its power to sell the Aulani points after investing $800 million in the resort. Even if that means stretching the truth with comments like "just buy into Aulani and you can always use your points to book at the Grand Californian!" (In fact, as long as Aulani is purchased direct, owners can book all 3 DL resorts through The Disney Collection.)

That's certainly an alternative strategy. It's just not the one DVC has chosen to pursue thus far.

Sounds like they certainly don't bring out the point chart to show THAT one then... couldn't book GCV 11 months out with Aulani points either, so that sounds particularly malicious/dirty! Thankfully no one has tried that on us, they just agree it would be nice to have more West Coast options and say we can get on the wait list.

Bungalows sound super awesome. Hope there are enough to go around hope we can get one for 3 week in oct.

I guess we wait and see, but I don't do studios so that will cure my addontinitis!

Me too!! No 1-bedrooms will keep me from buying more points there too. I hate studios and there are only 3 in my family, so I can't do a grand villa. If I wanted to stay in a hotel style room, I would just stay at the Poly regular room. Is it a bad thing it won't have what I want to buy? Probably not. We need to curb our Disney spending anyway. Honestly, I am very disappointed I won't want to buy.
