DVC Polynesian officially announced.

We are down here now, and after hearing the news, we called our guide to be put on his call list when sales start. He did confirm the Poly DVC to us and said it would be 2015 before sales started. We will need more details before we do an add on, but excited to hear they are building at Poly!

Is there a benefit to being on such a list...?

Is there a benefit to being on such a list...?

Nope. In fact, by 2015 chances are either:

A) You'll have a new Guide, or
B) You'll find yourself here complaining that "my Guide said I was on his list and he never called me!"

Or C) both of the above.

;)

When the Poly goes on sale it will be with much fanfare. They won't sell out of points within days. And all owners will be given a fair shot to buy-in at the initial offering price.

Alas, not yet an owner. We are still torn between the insane price/wait that GCV is and buying in at Poly. By 2015 I'd certainly have it figured out... a point chart wouldn't hurt. :3

If you want to play it safe, I'd take the VGF Studio points and add 15% per night. Assuming the bungalows sleep 8/9 and are more plush than the typical Two Bedroom villa, I'd estimate a minimum 50% upcharge over VGF Lake View 2B.

It's probably going to be 18-20 months before point charts are published. And you can add a couple years worth of inflation on the cost of the points.

Also if you aren't an owner when Poly goes on sale, you won't get the lowest price if history holds. With VGF there was a price increase before they began selling to the general public.

It's pretty much the same dilemma every prospective owner faces. If there's another lower-priced resort that you also enjoy, you could consider buying there and resign yourself to staying at the Poly only when it's available at 7 months. Or you wait for the Poly and pay what is certain to be a very high asking price.

Seems to be a situation of an awesome marketing technique also know as a "controlled leak"...great way to create the water cooler buzz and pump up the excitement/anticipation. Disney would never do that, right??? You betcha they would, it is a marketing tactic that has been proven to be successful. DVC Poly is coming unless it gets cut from a financial perspective and comes back to life down the road.

Given that there are only two of us, we are in the minority of people who like studios for the value - currently that's been all we have rented. Seems like 100 points if we go every other year or so *should* be fine, of course we'll see what happens. I've also been looking at it this way... the initial buy in, should the price go up before we could get on board, is just part of the big picture. I'd be OK to have a slightly higher buy in knowing that maintenance would be the same as everyone else (if its a small enough increase of course) rather than buying in where it isn't my first choice. In an ideal world, we'd buy in at GCV and then add points at Poly but getting in at GCV is difficult due to the long wait there too. Decisions decisions... :scratchin

I have 2 kids and i often do studios. I like longer trips at great resorts so the studios work for me. I am looking forward to larger studios at poly and to trying the gf studios with larger baths and the cute dumbo bed (though my kids are already vying for who gets to sleep in it). I think the underbed storage makes all the difference for luggage, too. I'd trade the second shower for a washer dryer. If the studios at poly have new features and are a little larger, then i'm in.. I find when i get a 1 br, i use the larger fridge buy rarely the oven anyway.

No, it was more an excuse to call and confirm the rumor. If we decide to do an add on, I will be all over it and not waiting for a phone call lol!

I suppose you could hope that so many people would get on "the list" that DVD would realize their Poly plans are too small, so they immediately start building a new building with real 1 and 2BR units. :lmao:

You really think Poly will be more points? It seems that would undermind the notion of VGF as the flagship resort.

My thoughts exactly. Unless they totally redo the whole resort.

I just stayed in Tahiti last December. I hope they do not think that a room there should be more points than a studio at VGF which is a brand spanking new building.

Tikiman did make the mention that the bungalows would be the highest point option...

And if DVC really wanted, they could "price" Poly studios between VGF 1BR and studios, and it would still be a "bargain" compared to a VGF 1BR.

Such arbitrary designations don't matter a whole lot when it comes to pricing. VGF will be sold out--or very nearly so--before Poly even goes on sale. Do you really think DVC is going to ask less for Poly points to protect some sort of ranking system?

Also note that the Poly should have rooms with a view of the Magic Kingdom. Grand Floridian villas do not.

Well, you'd probably have to qualify that statement.

Assuming the bungalows sleep 8/9, I'm quite certain they will cost more than any other Two Bedroom villa. The setting alone will allow Disney to charge more.

But they aren't going to be the absolute highest price DVC villa of all. They won't go for more than the 227 points per night charged for a VGF Grand Villa during Premier Season.

I really think they are adding all these monorail resorts then they will refurb it , to get DVC MF to help ease the cost . I mean they will have to do something with the monorail will all these extra people they are putting here

I've been waiting for this to do my first add-on. I didn't think it'd happen until 2017-18 though. Thinking they had so much other stock to sell. I hoped I had longer to save for it.

OK, Maybe I missed it, but I know we have all been calling the bungalows GVs, and now we know they will only sleep 8, has anyone confirmed that they are going to be 3br for sure?

Since no details have been officially released by Disney (other than they are adding a DVC at the Poly), it's all conjecture and rumors, so no way to confirm.

A question for you, and others, does BLT pay any kind of usage fee for the monorail, and/or maintenance? Is there anything in the documents, or budget financials of BLT? As my home base is VWL, I've never paid attention to if I am paying anything for the boat transportation, bus, ME, etc. I assume I am, I just never looked for the actual proof.

DVC owners pay for anything and everything that Disney can bill them for.
