DVC Polynesian officially announced.

What will be interesting to see is if today's announcement for the Polynesian DVC puts a damper on VGF sales. There may be a few people who were thinking about buying VGF, but will now wait until sales begin for the Poly.

My situation exactly! Been waiting for Poly since 2000, my favorite resort. Almost gave up and bought at VGF as the next best thing, so happy I waited.
:dance3:

I agree it's being handled a bit differently than other announcements. If anything, it just seems a bit rushed to me. Perhaps the construction walls going up at the Poly forced their hand.

But a press release distributed by a known Disney PR staffer--from a Disney email address--is about as "official" as it gets.

Cool.

:cool1:

I hope it's more than just the bungalows over the water and some studios in a refurbished building.

That is a goooood question... and what will they price it at? It seems GFV is doing well at quite a pricey sum.

No need to pretend, I'm not buying into a building that was built in 1985, and being pawned off like its new.

Build new, and I will be buying on day 1 of sales.

Yeah, I have to admit that would give me pause if I were in the market for Poly points.

If the "refurb" entails basically stripping the buildings down to structural steel, that's a different matter. Essentially that IS new. But anything short of that and I'd have to think twice about buying.

I was just thinking....based on what it's rumored to be, a press release is almost absurd.

"Disney repainting some hotel rooms"

It's one step away from a press release about Iger's lunch.

Exactly. If they gut the long houses, and by that I mean, down to the structure, and put in new plumbing, new electrical, new elevators....that is as good as new.

Me too, the entire project just seems mismanaged to me from the beginning.

I know TJ would not release a story unless he got a press release, but it is a strange way to release such a huge project.

My friends have been told not to discuss it and there was nothing shared internally to other departments on it.

Yes, great point! Also, I've never really been interested in the Poly -- I don't have a sentimental connection to it, and I'm not into the theming.

Sad thing is I do have a sentimental connection to it, and love the theme, and the DVC plans as I know them to be at this point in time, are very discouraging.

I also see why people would not like the theme

My guide told me today that he expects as soon as AKL is sold out that they will raise VGF to like $165 but offer incentives to bring it back down to $150 so people think they are getting a deal.

Are the plans on this board somewhere?

No plans have been released yet; there has been a running rumor thread where the plans have apparently changed about 4,000 times. It is going to be interesting to see what they actually have planned for Poly. We have heard mention of bungalows in the water and refurbed longhouses. Poly is one of the most popular hotel destinations (excellent themeing and location, excellent restaurant, one of the best Disney hotel stores, the Luau) and I got to assume they don't want to do anything that is going to lessen its hotel appeal or reduce by much the current number of hotel rooms.

The only thing that is likely certain is that whatever it is is not going to be cheap (in design or price). We will probably see (like we did for BLT before VGF went on sale) four or five price increases for VGF in the next 1 1/2 to 2 years so DVD can ultimately offer Poly at a price "lower" than VGF (but one practically no one will have ever paid for VGF) to make purchasers think they are getting a bargain. Will point levels be higher? Definitely yes if they can have higher view categories (bungalows in the water or otherwise rooms with true theme park view; or how 'bout bungalows in the water with their own boat dock and boat to MK), but I am not sure Disney will otherwise want points to be more than VGF for same types of room sizes and view categories -- i.e., there would be something blasphemous in having people being able to say Poly costs more points than Disney's flagship Grand Floridian.

No details though, that is disappointing.

Look at it this way: It should make this year's DVC Annual Meeting just a little more interesting. It was at the meeting in December 2011 that Claire Bilby officially announced plans for the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian.

This is exciting news. I am not thrilled with the plans but I love this resort and DVC. I may even sell my Wilderness Lodge points to buy here. Oh did I admit that thought, now I feel guilty, lol.

The Poly was the first hotel I stayed at as a little girl that started my love for Disney. We went to see the VGF a few weeks ago and contemplated purchasing but I vowed to wait for the Poly and will beg, borrow and steal to have a piece of the pie.

The only question that remains is what comes after the Poly??
