Really? Does the wait list automatically grab nights now? I thought it was still run at night. No longer useful with the advent of instant online booking availability. And sometimes (certainly not all the time) a cancellation fills a wait list before it goes out for open booking availability.
There is no waitlist for ADR, so there is a better chance with those of grabbing something that some other board poster is going to cancel.
The wait list process only grabs nights if it can fill a wait list in its entirety. It won't set aside a night that only partially fills a wait list.Well, the wait list is NOT set up to grab a night when it is cancelled because I am pretty sure the night I just let go is on someone's wait list and it's still there minutes later. If someone is looking for an AKV-CL studio for 12/19 there is one available.
I have been told several times by different CM's that the waitlist matching is run at night after MS closes.
The following day CM's work the matches from the night before.

That was my understanding, Bill. Which would mean that a cancellation thread (or threads, one per month like the ADR threads) may be a good thing for DISers. My coveted ALV Club Level Studio sat out there for at least 2 hours.I have been told several times by different CM's that the waitlist matching is run at night after MS closes.

That is sad in this day of technology that the waitlist does not grab the nights immediately (if it fills the entire waitlist). I am not sure how useful the waitlist is if that is the case.
+1 - the purpose of a cancellation thread is completely different than a waitlist IMO. For example, you aren't realistically going to create a waitlist for an AKV CL springbreak week (inside 7 mos) since you have no realistic expectation of getting it. However if someone cancels said week, I guarantee you that someone on DISBoards would grab it despite not having a WL for it. FWIW, I got exactly said week (inside 7 mos) a year ago and cancelled it and couldn't find a place to post it here. That said, what's to prevent someone (anyone) from creating said thread? Just create a thread, set some rules (e.g. no posting until after you cancel to avoid renting/advertising solicitation) and go. Any mods care to comment on the feasibility of this?I think a cancellation thread would be useful... I have booked a waitlist before the site has.. I just stalk the site and the availability popped up.
I've been glad it didn't as I tend to tweak my vacations several days after booking. That is sad in this day of technology that the waitlist does not grab the nights immediately (if it fills the entire waitlist). I am not sure how useful the waitlist is if that is the case.
Unless software and systems have changed recently, most MS CM's do not have the ability to even hold inventory.
It's only in the last couple of years that we have had website improvements, online booking, and the availability tool.

I had a MS person hold the last studio available to book while she transferred points and purchased one time points. So yes they can hold the room while booking it.
